I have used World Nomads for my travels (only backpacking, no surfing trips).

Keep in mind that I have never had to make a claim but the fees seem reasonable for what they offer, cheapest by a long way.

@bigal - Mex insurance? Watch your back at all times, no matter what policy you have.
Depends heavily on where in Mex you will be.

Used World Nomads recently for a few months on mainland Mex - and they paid out almost 2 grand for a claim.

Have also used Allianz for numerous Indo trips and been paid for claims without much hassle.

They are your cheapest options but Covermore is the best for major medical emergencies...they get costly for long trips though.
