Steve et al, just wondering what the term "hybrid low" means, as used in your forecast today?

It's a low pressure system displaying both tropical and extra-tropical characteristics.

Thanks Ben.

As distinct from an ECL and having a tendency to form in that area between Cape Moreton and the Capricorn Channel.

Also being a feature of a La Nina state.

The hybrid low in Dec '08 was a similar though stronger and slow moving system.

It's funny because the charts of recent times (even through that horrendous NE period in Nov) were reminding me of '08 and the late developing Nina of that year.

December has started wonderfully.

Like the switch was flicked.
