SupaWallace escapades

Nah , couple more weeks yet , going a bit stir crazy.

Hi Supa interested in your Indo board quiver, if you'd care to share.
Cheers

Hi Baldhead , I don’t mind sharing what I’m riding but keep in mind I was 60 when I got some of these boards and bouncing around between 100 & 105 kg , 180 cm . I’ve dropped down to 90kg this year and turned 64 last month . I made friends with foam probably 15 years ago . I have 3 Lost puddle jumpers , different models but all 6’6 and from 44 to 47 ltrs . Next is a Desert Storm 6’10 fat version 48 ltrs . A Pyzel ghost XL 7’.0 49 ltrs . Finally another Desert Storm 7’6 fat version 52.5 ltrs . I have couple boards on order 6’9 moonraker & 6’6 phaza . Even though I’ve dropped weight I still like the volume as I catch waves with these boards , if you’re not catching waves , you’re not surfing . My waves range from 2-8 ft , fat to hollow hence the variety . If I was to choose an all rounder for a 1 board quiver then I would currently go with the pyzel ghost XL . Why the interest ? Are you older & heavy also ? When I was younger like 25 -40 years, I was pretty solid and weighed between 95-100 kg but was a ball of muscle due to work I did , in those days my indo quiver were pipedreams 7.0 to 7’10 all 6 channel thrusters , these days all my boards are quads with the exception of one 2+1 in certain waves .

Hey Supa, reading through your post I was gonna ask what your go-to was and you answered already. My amazing bro gifted me his 6'6" Ghost XL- 40lt brand new and I'm keen to get it in good surf. I'm 5'11" 90 kg and 57 so I reckon just about on the money for me.
Do you ride it as a thruster or quad? I've been enjoying quads last few years but kinda miss a three finner sometimes. How's it go in the hollower waves? What type of waves does it shine in? Hope you don't mind me asking.

@zen , I prefer quads personally , I did try it as a thruster and much prefer it as a quad but that’s just me . It goes great in hollow waves and big open face walls , a very versatile board I find . Round house cutbacks blew me away with how easily I could execute them . Experiment with the fin set up as I did and see how ya go . When I needed a looser feel for less powerful smaller waves (3-5 ft ) I use large neutral fins and for larger more powerful waves(6-8 ft ) I use the EA quads which are a medium . You can put this board over on rail at high speed with confidence. Have fun and hope the Maldives pump for ya .

Zen, the Ghost is a brilliant board. It has a freaky thing where it almost gets sucked into a wave on the takeoff, almost cheating. And it goes in both hollow waves and big walls.
I'm mostly a quad guy, like Supy, but I've always loved my Ghosts (I'm on nr 3) with AM2 thrusters. Play around with fins, like Supy said.

Cheers gents. Amped.

Some friends that live on Lembongan go to japan each year for snowboarding , they were there for 2 months and said they got 4+ meters of snow , incredible powder apparently . She laughed when I told her that I’ve never seen snow .

Worst season of snow in NZ. Two planned then aborted ski trips to Craigieburn.
Thankfully the waves have been great, but a meniscus tear (hopefully minor) has just put the brakes on that.

MEMORIES.
I was there in Feb when Japan had the heaviest snowfalls in 80 years. Every morning was dig out van..get to fields early..line up for 45 mins to get first runs on untouched pow.
Can’t wait for Feb 26. Countdown is 5 months away.
You would love surfing powder, SF. Nothing comes close to the feeling.

Aren’t surfing injuries fun as we age , 2 more weeks, longest time out of the water for yonks . Did 3 weeks last year with cut arm but this is going to be double that . I really feel for guys that are out for a year or more with back injuries and the rehab that follows .

@RK , I’m so used to living in the tropics that I think I would be a bit of a sook in that climate . Looks unreal though .
cos, y'know.. we're curious.
PB & J, or 'the original odd couple'.
either way, stay social boys.
