Western Australia Surf Forecast by Craig Brokensha (issued Wednesday 16th May)

Best Days: Swell magnets across the South West Friday morning, Sunday morning, Monday morning, early Tuesday (late across Mandurah and Perth)

Recap

Great waves across all locations yesterday with offshore winds and good sized easing surf after Monday afternoon's epic waves.

This morning we've got small to tiny leftovers with early offshore winds.

Today’s Forecaster Notes are brought to you by Rip Curl

This weekend and next week (May 17 – 20)

These notes will be brief as Ben’s on holidays.

As touched on in Monday's notes, I hope you made the most of Monday afternoon and yesterday, as there's not much on the cards for our region at all.

We've got a very slow forecast period ahead with favourable offshore winds each morning but no size.

Perth and Mandurah will be tiny to flat, while Margs should provide small waves at swell magnets, mostly Friday morning to 3ft on the sets, smaller through the weekend.

A slightly better W/SW groundswell is due later Monday and more so Tuesday to 3-4ft across the South West and 1ft further north, generated by a weak mid-latitude front pushing through the southern Indian Ocean.

Into Tuesday afternoon and Wednesday morning a better W/SW groundswell is expected, generated by a stronger mid-latitude producing a distant fetch of gale to storm-force W/SW winds.

A late kick to 5-6ft is due across the South West, easing from 4-6ft Wednesday and 2ft in Mandurah, with 1-2ft sets in Perth.

Unfortunately winds will be mainly from the north, NE tending N Tuesday (possibly variable Mandurah and Perth later) N/NE to N'th Wednesday.

These winds will be associated with a vigorous mid-latitude frontal progression approaching us from the west, but more on this Friday.
