The 5th annual Wooden Surfboard Day

"The 5th annual Wooden Surfboard Day was one out of the bag. We got lucky with 24 degrees air, 21 degree water and three feet of swell and offshore winds. It was the best weather in three months and a great turn out of people and boards. Probably upwards of 200 wooden boards were in the park today."

The Fish Fry Masterchef

The 7th annual Alley Fish Fry is just over two weeks away and the kitchen is heating up. Recently, during the Australia Day long weekend, a tempest of Biblical proportions hit the Gold Coast forcing crew indoors and out of the surf. People moaned. People groaned. Not Grant Newby, Head Chef of the Alley Fish Fry, he strode into the kitchen (his fitted out garage) and started working on some new creations.

The 7th annual Alley Fish Fry is just over two weeks away and the kitchen is heating up. 2012 Alley Fish Fry

Earlier this month the 6th Annual Alley Fish Fry went down in the park at Currumbin. Organiser Grant Newby widened the criteria this year giving lawn space to many other alternative craft. From straight ahead fish to mini-Simmons there were all sorts of shapes to stare out, rub rails and even take for a spin out the Alley. One thing many of the boards seemed to have in common this year was colour. Nude foam and balsa is out apparently...
