Two days ago a heatwave crossing Portugal caused fierce bushfires while last night another fire gutted the premises of Europe's largest and most prestiguous board label, Pukas.

The fire broke out at the Basque Country factory at 5pm local time and took till 10:30pm before firefigthers had it under control. No-one was hurt though news agencies are reporting some firemen had to be treated for smoke inhalation.

Earlier today Pukas Surf wrote on Instagram: "Good news is everyone is safe. The fire might have taken a big part of our work and hearts, but we are standing still and willing to grow. Pukas is surf and we will surf."

At present, the cause of the fire is unknown. However, being a surfboard factory there would've been many flammable chemicals on site.

Pukas - which means 'hole' in Hawaiian - first began in 1979 putting quality shapes under local and travelling pros. They currently shape for Gabriel Medina, Aritz Aranburu, Kepa Acero, among many others.
