Recap

Yesterday's large W'ly swell wasn't anything special with poor winds and choppy conditions across the Mid Coast while the South Coast was on the slow side but 3ft across Middleton along with favourable winds for protected spots.

Today the swell is smaller and weaker with good mal waves off Middleton. The Mid was still wind affected but doable with sets to 2-3ft.

Long lines yesterday

This weekend and next week (Jul 10 - 14)

We've got a wild, wooly weekend of surf ahead thanks to a significant mid-latitude frontal progression pushing in from the west.

The front has been upgraded a little with a great fetch of gale to severe-gale W/SW winds pushing east through the Bight.

The front will move in and across us this evening, with a large mix of stormy swell and groundswell due tomorrow, building to 4ft+ across the Mid Coast through the day while the South Coast now looks to build 6ft through the afternoon.

Both coast should start to ease through Sunday with 3ft+ waves on the Mid Coast and easing 5-6ft sets down South.

Winds will be strong from the W/NW tomorrow, shifting W through the day, favouring protected spots down South with Sunday seeing gusty W/NW winds persisting all day.

Another weaker frontal system moving in on tail of the weekend's activity should generate some good, reinforcing mid-period W/SW swell for Monday, maintaining 4ft sets across Middleton and 2ft waves on the Mid Coast.

Winds will improve through the day as well, shifting from a gusty W/NW to N/NW breeze, so there's no rush for the early.

This shift in wind will be ahead of the next frontal system pushing in quickly from the west. This will bring with it a moderate sized pulse of mid-period W/SW swell Tuesday afternoon, thanks to a great fetch of strong to near gale-force W/SW winds.

The Mid should kick back to 3ft on the sets through Tuesday afternoon with 4ft+ sets across Middleton, easing Wednesday.

Conditions look great for these swells across the South Coast with persistent N/NW winds, likely N/NE-NE for periods across the Mid Coast offering fun bumpy options. This will be thanks to the constant frontal energy pushing up and across Western Australia while dipping south-east on approach to us.

Now, into the end of the week we've got a strong mix of inconsistent W/SW groundswell along with some closer-range swell thanks to a strong frontal progression through the Indian Ocean over the weekend. The remnants of this progression will generate the closer-range energy as it dips under the country during next week.

Before this though, a great fetch of gale to severe-gale W/NW winds will generate the W/SW groundswell with it possibly showing later Wednesday but peaking through Thursday. The Mid should be a strong 3ft with the South Coast coming in at 4-6ft along with strengthening N/NW winds.

A larger SW groundswell could possibly follow this W/SW energy but we'll have a closer look at this Monday. Have a great weekend!
