He took the twin fin division yesterday and today Shane Dorian wrapped up the thruster division of the Four Seasons Surfing Champions Trophy. Dorian overcame some great surfing by Rasta and Neco Padaratz. Brad Gerlach came last in his heat though it's hard to believe watching the surfing he did. Check the vid.

How much better do the thrusters go I reckon.

Looks like a nice place to take the missus.

What are we looking at a night here including access to surf?

Been doing some research myself, actually. Looks like about 1500 a night starting rate.

On that subject, anyone have any other recommendations for a decent resort in Maldives with easy access to waves? There's the Hudhuranfushi resort, but looking to go right for the majority of the time. Need somewhere fit for the missus and kids. She won't do Indonesia again (unfortunately) and not sure I wanna risk the youngens in that environment.

Have stayed at Tari twice 2000 & 2002 (now Chaaya Island Beach & Spa) booked through Atoll Travel. This resort has Pasta Point straight out front, which is a left but a really really fun wave. When I stayed there the package included surf transfers with Sultans and Jails (both rights) within a 10 min boat ride (Sultans 5 min). They would also take you to Cokes (about 30 min trip north) but only if a group was going. Only issue with all the rights in Nth Male area is they are open to boats and get crowded. The firs tyear I was there Jails was exclusive to Tari and it pumped so only surfed it with max 5 people. Tari has been redeveloped since I was there last in 2002 into Chayaa and it now has a nice little beach which is perfect for the nippers. Your missus will fucken love it mate. I proposed to mine on the little deserted island across the lagoon towards Four Seasons. If you're looking for a righthander straight out front then Cokes has a resort (The Perfect Wave is this company I think) but not so missus and kid friendly.

Hudhuranfushi rates don't include boat trips, + $50 US for a three hour boat trip
And to surf Lohis you must book under there surfers allocation system ?

Stayed at Hudhuaranfushi about 10 years ago and its a beautiful spot, great snorkeling off the pier,so many large parrot fish and lots of black tip whalers which were not a problem. The coral was a disappointment as a lot of die back from a ocean temps reaching 34 degrees apparently a couple years before. The waves started out good at Lohis around 4-5ft first day,me thinking the swell was coming up but it dropped away real quick.I was there in mid october probably too much at the end of the season and the winds would get really strong side shore with storms coming thru which blew out a few small surfs i had.Shame its so expensive cause its a long way to go to maybe get skunked but it is a beautiful spot and my missus loved it.Not sure about the 45 surfers allowed on the island now at one time could become a problem. The other spots like sultans get real crowded with boat loads of brazzos but in some ways doing it by boat would be good to maybe beat the crowd to another spot.At Lohis you have wait for the boat to take you down to sultans or jails so you arrive with your own mini crowd to a crowded line up.Anyway was a good experience and i wish i had done it for a lot longer cause you could easily swing into island time.

Looks like so much fun and with all the sharks around here at present (or always ) I would love to go back there again. I have been to the old lohi's twice before and would recommend it there's not many quality waves in the world where there are nt crowds but growing up surfing in Sydney it's nothing really I found many of the crowd only beginners so plenty of waves. Which waves were the contest held in looks like jails but not sure , any answers.?

Thanks chaps - good advice. Would be bummed to go all that way and get disappointing conditions. Everything's a gamble, I guess.

Will look at suggested options, rob two banks and pick something I think

Geez Dorian can surf. I can't remember him on the circuit as I was in the thick of things with the kiddlets. Man o man turns and Rasta could surf a pizza box. That wave looks so much fun pity about the crowds. Might as well stay home.
