South Australian Forecast (issued Friday 7th March)

Best Days: Saturday morning down South, arvo on the Mid, Sunday down South, Monday and Tuesday morning for small clean waves down South, Tuesday on the Mid

Recap

A fresh and strong pulse of W/SW and SW swell filled in yesterday with OK conditions across the South Coast during the morning under E/NE winds, while the Mid Coast saw cleaner conditions but the swell was only around 1ft before pulsing to 1-1.5ft+ during the afternoon with fresh S/SE winds.

Today the swell is smaller with average E'ly winds down South, while the Mid was offerig tiny clean peelers.

This weekend (Mar 8 - 9)

There's been no real change to the weekend's forecast with a strong but inconsistent pulse of SW groundswell due to arrive through tomorrow afternoon, peak during the evening and then ease steadily Sunday.

Size wise, Middleton should build to 3-4ft+ with 4-6ft sets at Waits into the late afternoon, with much smaller waves during the morning under E/NE winds. The Mid Coast should pulse a touch to a very inconsistent 1-1.5ft later in the day under favourable winds.

Sunday will be the day though with a dropping but still solid swell at dawn on the South Coast under N/NE tending W/NW winds, providing a full and fun day of surf.

Next week onwards (Mar 10 onwards)

Next week will start off slow with a much smaller leftover swell into Monday and Tuesday with light variable winds each morning that may linger just from the S'th across the South Coast.

We're heading into an active period of waves from the middle of next week well into the following week as a couple of initial W/SW and then SW groundswells push into the state

This will be related to a progression of polar fronts being steered up towards WA and then eventually through the Bight by the Long Wave Trough. The LWT is currently over WA but is expected to move slowly into the Bight and stall there for most of next week, sending front after front after front up through our western and then south-western swell window.

The first pulse of decent W/SW swell is due Tuesday afternoon across the Mid Coast to 2ft, while the South Coast should see a slight kick in size ahead of a stronger SW groundswell pulses Wednesday into the next weekend.

Winds initially will be average for the South Coast Wednesday but an improvement should be seen into Thursday and Friday with straight offshores next Saturday.

We'll review this all again in more detail on Monday.
