Western Australia Surf Forecast by Craig Brokensha (issued Friday 17th December)

Best Days: Saturday morning, Sunday morning, Tuesday morning, Wednesday morning

Recap

A strong pulse of SW groundswell filled in across the state yesterday, arriving during the morning in the South West and later in the day up the coast but conditions were poor with fresh to strong onshore winds.

Today offered great waves across the state with a clean 6ft of swell in the South West, 2ft waves around Perth and 4-5ft surf up at Gero.

This weekend (Jan 18 -19)

Today's SW groundswell will back off into tomorrow as winds remain favourable and offshore during the morning.

A small W/SW groundswell should stall the easing trend into Sunday and winds should be offshore from the E around Perth and Gero but SE in the South West.

Next week (Jan 20 onwards)

Monday will start off slow but a new SW groundswell should appear late in the day and then peak through Tuesday, generated by a broad but relatively weak polar frontal system (pictured right).

Winds should be favourable as the swell peaks with E/SE offshores that will continue into Wednesday as the swell slowly backs away.

Longer term there's nothing major on the cards, but we'll look at this again on Monday.
