Western Australia Surf Forecast by Craig Brokensha (issued Monday 13th December)

Best Days: Tuesday morning, Thursday in protected spots, Friday morning, Saturday morning

Recap

Saturday offered the best waves over the weekend with an easing SW groundswell and hot offshore winds. The swell became tiny into Sunday around Perth, while a light onshore created less than ideal conditions up at Gero leaving Margs with the best waves.

Today a cool onshore was blowing across most coasts with a small to tiny swell.

This week (Jan 14 -17)

A small increase in swell is expected later tomorrow ahead of a peak Wednesday, but heading into Thursday a stronger SW groundswell is expected across the state. This is being generated by a strong mid-latitude front pushing in towards us over the next couple of days.

Winds will swing onshore as the front approaches Wednesday, but as the swell peaks Thursday winds should swing back to the S/SE in the wake of the front.

Friday will offer the best waves with an offshore E/SE breeze and easing SW groundswell.

This weekend (Jan 18 onwards)

Saturday will start off small and fun with an offshore breeze and further drop in SW groundswell.

A small new W/SW groundswell is due on Sunday generated by the remnants of Tropical Cyclone Colin in the Indian Ocean being absorbed into the westerly storm track.

Beyond this there's nothing too major on the cards besides another small-medium sized SW groundswell for Tuesday, but we'll review this Wednesday.
