Northern NSW and South East Queensland Forecast by Craig Brokensha (issued Monday 23rd December)

Best Days: Tuesday morning for keen surfers, early Thursday

Recap

The weekend continued to provide plenty of E'ly trade-swell as it slowly eased across the region. SE Qld picked up the most size, with smaller waves seen from the Northern NSW coast south.

Sunday offered the cleanest conditions with light offshores, while Saturday was average with N'ly winds.

Today the E'ly swell is down a touch further to 1-2ft across most spots with winds from the northern quarter, while further down the NSW coast, new levels of NE windswell are building.

This week (Dec 24 - 27)

The E'ly swell will continue to drop out slowly during the coming days, while the NE windswell seen across the coast today will also ease tomorrow as a weak S'ly change moves through.

A small spike in S'ly swell is expected off this change Wednesday but only to 2ft across south swell magnets Wednesday on the North Coast with less than favourable S'ly winds. A drop in size is then expected Thursday with morning offshores, but you'll have to get in early at swell magnets to score any decent waves.

This weekend (Dec 28 – 29)

A weak surface trough sitting off Seal Rocks is expected to move up the coast during the weekend and this should bring a small and weak increase SE windswell Saturday but not above 2ft. This swell will then ease into Sunday with the next increase in swell expected from the S'th and E/SE early next week. We'll look at this again on Wednesday though.
