Southern Tasmania Forecast (issued Friday 20th December)

Best Days: Early Sunday, Wednesday

Recap

Wednesday afternoon's late pulse of swell eased back to 1ft yesterday under hot N'ly winds

This week and weekend (Dec 21 - 22)

A slight increase in size is expected tomorrow across Clifton owing to a polar front pushing up towards us today. This should kick up fun 1-2ft waves for the afternoon, but winds will be poor, swinging from the SW to a lighter E'ly during the late afternoon. Sunday will be cleaner but the swell will fade quickly from 1-1.5ft or so under fresh NE winds.

Next week (Dec 23 onwards)

Next week will start out tiny, but a new W/SW groundswell is expected on Wednesday, reaching 1-2ft during the middle of the day (slightly above model forecasts). This will be generated by a strong but short-lived polar front firing up late in the weekend.

Winds for this swell look good as well with an offshore N/NW tending variable breeze.

Longer term a secondary smaller W/SW groundswell is on the cards for later in the week but we'll look at this again on Monday.
