Sydney, Hunter and Illawarra Surf Forecast by Craig Brokensha (issued Friday 15th November)

Best Days: Sunday morning for keen surfers, Monday morning, Tuesday morning

Recap

The large swell seen during the start of the week continued to ease through yesterday back to a small clean 2ft across open beaches. This morning a new distant E/SE swell has kept inconsistent 2ft sets hitting exposed spots, but early light offshores are just starting to come up from the SE. The afternoon will be write off with fresh SE winds.

This weekend (Nov 16-17)

The weekend is looking very average as we fall under the effects of a deepening surface trough off our coast which will result in strengthening onshore winds and building levels of low quality E/SE windswell.

In saying this Sunday morning is probably worth a look as winds around dawn will likely be more S'ly and possibly S/SW creating fun peaky 2ft waves.

Early next week (Nov 18-20)

A peak in E/SE swell is due Monday as the trough reaches a peak in strength Sunday evening (picture right) with fun 2-3ft+ waves expected across open beaches (above the latest model forecast, but this should pull back into line this evening) but winds will be tricky again and from the S'th early before swinging SE during the morning.

Hit up protected locations for the best waves.

Tuesday and Wednesday will likely see slowly dropping levels of E/SE swell due to the trough fully breaking down but conditions will accordingly improve with light offshore winds due each morning.

Longer Term (Nov 21 onwards)

Some fun E/NE swell is on the cards for later next week and into the following weekend as a surface trough in the Tasman Sea deepens, aiming a fetch of E/NE winds towards us. But the models are all over the shop regarding this system so we'll review this again on Monday.
