Goolwa Cam?

Might have to put a set of binoculars on that cam to see Goolwa from there.

To copy what I've written in another thread: the cam looks across the Goolwa stretch, of which it's a more easily identifiable name (for website navigation, and Google searches). Goolwa is part of the South Coast vernacular - you check Middleton, then head down to Goolwa, or around to Waits and Parsons. So it makes sense at that level too.

FWIW, a surfcam at the Goolwa car park (or thereabouts) would have a terrible view due to the low elevation - you would't see anything beyond the shorebreak.

The camera can actually see right down past Goolwa towards Beacon 19 (and also west to Middleton Point) but it doesn't really add any extra value IMO (and the side-on view past Goolwa isn't great, because of the broad width of the surf zone).

As for surf: there's no discernible difference in surf between Cliffs and Goolwa; theoretically a fraction more size, but you'd be hard pressed to measure it. Certainly no indentifiable change between surf spots anyway (compared to The Dump and Chiton, for example) - it's just a loooong beach with slow lines of whitewater spread across a myriad of ill defined gutters.

I reckon its fantastic.
Much better perspective than Middleton bay, which can be relatively protected and sometimes looks better than what it actually is off the point or further east.

But.. when Middleton Bay is working, there's a lot more surfers contained in a small area, which makes for more interesting viewing. Which is the reason I put in a fixed camera.

The Goolwa cam on the other hand is merely a swell size/conditions indicator cam. You'll never really be able to watch anyone surf.

Each kind of cameras has its own benefits.

Just in time for the relentless south-easterlies, brown water and thick seaweed clogging the line-ups around Middleton. Does Goolwa get surfed much these days? Haven't been there since I was a kid (and now Vic based).
