Therein lies the problem with engaging with the cycle @RK.. (I like my news a month old). A kid who did dumb shit with the wrong crowd, and now fishes lots, sounds awesome to me. He would have been blissing like the street kids in Two Hands or the bottomless-credit-card-guy who did the bank. Course the kid'd step up once the dust settles. Probably not used to being in any position to make financial reparations for anything. Now he just has to navigate the grifters and jealous people, and the people who say 'he only did it cos he woz guilted into it'.

And I think that was the intention of the sons post. To shame the poor kid into it. How about giving him the opportunity to work it out for himself. What a prick.

I sure hope he gets some good advice…plenty of hands will be out and hard for a 17 year old to stand up and refuse. 1 million is easy to blow in a short time.

we had a vic bream classic weekend recently, and only one single jewie/mulloway was caught.. never seen that.. 60cm.. got the rogue fish prize. The river mouth opened a few weeks ago, maybe has done that draining-the-oxygen thing.
(sorry.. for AW, "argyrosomus japonicus" ..had to look that up).
plenny of 1kg bream though, 1.3kg bream caught on a crabby.

..time to switch gear and start going for snapper off the rocks..

The apprentice caught 2 salmon in about 10 minutes on the weekend. Been Bronzey’s lurking pretty much every surf for the last couple of weeks. Few close encounters too. One young traveler is “Never coming back”. Another girl would’ve had to give her wetsuit a thorough rinse out. Same shark.

It is different, but when used verbally it's easy to make sense of the motivation: mateship, pisstaking, or abuse. Think, tone of voice, inflection, and other cues.

What isn't easy is making the same distinction in the written word. Many a time I've written something ironic and some people have interpreted literally. Add in the many personalities present in a forum board, their humour, intent, and persuasions, and moderation is a minefield.

#2 - He has already stated he will be buying himself a new Boat and 'Cruiser, pay of his parents home loan and repay old employer for Buggy.

#3 - If you have any idea of Aboriginal culture, particularly in the top end, what ever remains, will probably be divided out amongst family/direct clan.

I haven’t been home for about 8 months, so can’t give you first hand report. However, several mates that run commercial and charter operations down that way, report patchy bleaching and COT outbreaks. Swains and Bunker group seem to be mostly the outer reefs exposed to EAC, which by all accounts had some hot spots this year. The beaching appears to be mostly certain corals (plate, brain and certain staghorns) and patchy areas of the reef, not entire reefs like certain agencies and media like to allude to. Apparently some of those patches are pretty bad, but no worse (in their opinion) than previous years, and those previously damaged areas are recovering well.
Hope you are getting your fill of waves, you've obviously been getting a good feed of fish!
