Yeah the closest thing ( I presume ) I've had to Kirra proper is here in Victoria !!! But only twice , and bigger so probably more comparable to Barra . Good luck finding it , and even luckier than multiple lottery wins getting it on

I think I have this wave is in my list, only surfed it once but it was epic.

Hurrumph...

Yeah well unlike you. , I didn't really go the geographic location . Although it can be misconstrued for
Tassie ! Your inclusion on the other hand is just cold hearted. . Besides others have mentioned a far more accessible and better island in that region !
Sheepy , you can have that location here , just you and only 100,000 others have surfed it !
Yeah the closest thing ( I presume ) I've had to Kirra proper is here in Victoria !!! But only twice , and bigger so probably more comparable to Barra . Good luck finding it , and even luckier than multiple lottery wins getting it on
. Am I the only person that has surfed P-Pass !? ??

Southey.. I wasn't "listing" that wave .... Suppose I went off topic lol..... But it was a fun spot, with sweet fa people around back then... Now, these 100 000 people.... Did you see the photo's of Snapper thru Kirra on the weekend???? Sheesh!!!!!!

BTW, my third alternative list is Middleton SA, West Beach SA, Bondi, St Kilda beach, and Bargara beach Bundaberg.................. ;p

ID , did you surf it or not . If you did how come its on your list ... Does that mean coz you only surfed it once , but you'll give up your second born to go back there and score !!!!! ?
PS you edited your post ?!? ( I think ) , if it's the same spot we are talking then I'm pretty sure you would of be going back there , like a hungry white who regularly revisits a spot he lucked into food years prior . I've wasted more fuel checking it to only get skunked, than the planes to PPass . It is sand on reef , but it's not what u originally said but close .
Sheepy , I wasn't taking the piss , & I respect guys who are >6ft and can still backhand tube ride good !
FYI your description by default almost describes the wave location that ID and I want purfect , like Kirra though not quite a reef break .
ID , I'm surprised you haven't surfed Pambula on , talk about tough waves on ya backhand .

Shaunio ,
Locals use the F word , not so sure on the T .
I and one or two others call it something else . Of everyone ( small group , secret handshake whispers ) that have been there and know it I reckon there has only been a Half Dozen EPIC days in 20 years going by Aural accounts . Maybe twice that in Good days . And a hundred or so half arsed days . All I know is that the twice I had it Good to Epic , I was alone . :-))) best we keep it that way ;-)
Goofy don't bother , there'll be waves local when this is on . Or let go of your comfort zone and explore.
You'll miss recounting stories of "Legends " out in groups at wherever . But when you can't wipe the smile off ya face whilst you tell surfing acquaintances that " you went shopping in the city " and missed local
" legends " day . All the time knowing you scored what they can't fathom with no or less than 5 as a crowd !
Worst case scenario , you stay for awhile and enjoy clean strong water . :-)

Yep . Not easily accessible . Though .
And even though you know where to look , doesn't mean that it's predictable , seasonal or even regular .... It should just be called Surf Tease .
Is that what the T stands for .... You've really stumped me on that ?
Is this the same spot old man Hughes was heard to have danced naked with stoke prior to one session ?! Thank fuck I wasn't there for that ....

I've just surfed the one over towards morris's twice, no reef involved big long sand spit, needs a big rain. I think it gets towed a bit, normally known for it's left and not far from where a certain sort of bird nests.

-A right i found on google earth, but access near impossible, especially wet season when the winds are good.
-Treasure island and a nearby left cobras (anyone surfed it? southey?)
-a Few spots on the islands off aceh
-Skeleton bay
-red bluff and gnaraloo, didnt make it this year, even though i had the chance got sick instead.. hopefully next year.
-Peru pointbreaks like cabo blanco etc

Too many others to name..

Will try to always go back to g-land though. Not many places top its consistency, other good things about the place and speedies is near equal to supersuck for quality imo. but just as fickle maybe a little better consistency. (i mean days a month they work sort of thing..
Still addicted to waves ive already been to hehe.

Sticking to the topic (ie. waves you've NEVER surfed)...

1. Reverse-G (looks incredible on Google Maps)

2. Quarantine, maybe one day I'll try paddling with the tide, or get a kayak, or something, but probably will find that it is packed with 50 frothers and not get a wave!

3. Merimbula Bar, breaking properly. I surfed it micro once (and so I don't classify that as really having surfed it!), and was impressed with its potential. Having holidayed with the family at Pambula Beach at Xmas for years, this was always somewhere I wanted to go to but there was never enough swell - I liked the Rivermouth tho, but the bar seems to have moved since then, >30 years ago.

4. Outside Corner Ulu. Just not too big. Although I suspect that G-Land at the same size might be better, based on what I've seen. It's be good to cross this one off my bucket-list tho.

5. Jeffreys Bay. I've always thought of it as a Winki-on-steroids, and Winki is one of my regulars.

None of these last 4 are mysto secret spots, so don't get antsy. They're just places that I've seen photos of over the last 30 years, and so the desire to surf them is deeply ingrained.

Fave wave tho is still G-Land, and with limited time and money, will probably end up just going back there to get my fix rather than doing the dream of exploring elsewhere. But if I suddenly got rich and had lots of time & money, then...

Groundswell , I'm embarrassed to confess that I haven't set foot on Sumatra, and a little proud I haven't done " the obligatory mentawai boat trip " , hence I wan't a piece of green bush . Although as I age it might end up the other way around . There's something about that peak at green bush that just screams to me ,
" back door it " , looks like a bigger longer version of a wave here in Aust that I love . No Kandui gets my attention too . Hopefully in the next few years when I do a boys trip I'll get those two on . So no treasure for this little black duck .
Apologies Crip for taking the topic askew , you ever get your own Vic Kirra ?
As for Merimbula , older guys told me that it used to start out near the Museum wharf , and now it's only half to two thirds as long .
Funny though, the photos " somewhere in Tathra ?" That I've seen of M Bar macking and taking out a large game fishing boat around the 80's it didn't seem to be that much further out if at all .

Proud to have not done a boat trip Southey?! You should be ashamed with yourself for not having done one mate! 2 weeks floating around on a boat living in the one pair of boardies the whole time, catching fuck loads of fish and having sashimi every night, not having any phone reception so annoying clients can't hassle you, not to mention surfing some of the best waves in the world with your 7 or 8 of Ya mates.

Here is a five. As others have said, it changes.

- Big Teahupoo
- Big Jaws
I couldn't surf them, but I would really like to sit in the channel and watch.

- Malibu. For the history and a good and gentle point wave is a beautiful thing.
- Sunset Beach. For the test of all round 'course management' (in golfing terms).
- Macaronis. Just seems like an all manoeuvre, close to perfect wave.

the reality is goofy , that its not 7or 8 of ya best mates in the Mentawai's . Its 50-60 blokes on multiple boats , and because of that fact you can't just steam up to any wave up there and think you'll be the only boat load .
I've done a few boat trips ..... ( just not there )
Lombok / Sumbawa .
Panaitan , now theres a boat trip ....
I'd give up 5 boat trips to the Mentawai's for 14 days at P-Pass ..... And I did .Travelled alone , made friends , Got 3 x >6ft swells , fished like a Pro , ate like a King , shared a special day or two with 7or 8 World Champs ... . I could type for an hour really .
Considering the amount of waves on peoples lists , Mentawai's barely rate a mention .

I have heard those stories about crowds that bad, but I've done two trips now and haven't seen anything like it. Just depends if you have a good skipper whose keen to get you pumping uncrowded waves. The first trip I did was in March and we had pumping ht's for 4 days between 4-8ft and the only other person we shared it with was one solo guy staying on the land camp. Scuzz wouldn't let us leave the joint because we were scoring that bad.. But if you went to maccas or ht's in July well yeah your gunna get 30 people there. But they are just two waves out of thousands.
Anyway we are getting off topic

Vic Kirra? Hmm, can't say that I have, or that I know anywhere in Vic like Kirra.
I remember seeing a photo on the inside cover of Surfing World of MBar breaking from the wharf to near the beach. Unbelievably long. And I saw a photo sequence in a shop in Narooma of that boat getting crunched going across the bar. Apparently it was borrowed from a mate (ex-mate)!

Mick Fanning , Steph Gilmore , Taylor Jensen , Beau Young , Rob Naish , Ben Wilson , Dave Kalama , Rheo Stevens and Kelly and Andy were there the week before .... no biggy , but it was an amazing experience riding amongst so many people at the top of their game on so many different watercrafts on one particular day .
Was an experience that rates up there as the closest one can come to a " water world - circus - freakshow " , was a shame it smaller that day .

From memory it was 2006 or 2007 quake (not the 2010 one that caused a Tsunami at Maccas etc)

Raised a lot of the reefs in the southern Mentawai area from Thunders/Rags area all the way to Lighthouse/The hole area, changing most waves a bit but not to crazy, i think Rags left was the worse affected in a negative way, still surfable but apparently nothing like what it was going from world class to more fickle and average, nearby wave Roxys/Malakopa/Cold water springs whatever you want to call it, went from being a very average wave to a very high quality wave on its day.
