Recap
Perth and Mandurah offered lumpy OK waves on Saturday with a drop in swell from Friday as winds remained onshore in the South West.
Winds tended more variable Sunday morning but there was still lots of lump and some bump across exposed breaks in the South West but with a good, new mid-period SW swell. Perth and Mandurah were the pick with cleaner conditions and a fun mix of swells to 2-3ft or so.
Today, the South West has cleaned up further but with easing levels of mid-period SW swell back from 6ft+ while the metro regions hang in at 2ft to occasionally 3ft.
Fun sets still in the mix this morning
This week and weekend (Sep 10 - 15)
High pressure will stabilise to our south-west this week and with this we’re looking at a good run of offshore winds but with smaller, moderate sized pulses of swell.
The first is due to arrive tomorrow afternoon, peaking later before easing Wednesday.
It was generated by trailing fetches of strong to sub-gale-force winds behind the front linked to yesterday’s/today's swell.
Inconsistent but fun 4-6ft surf is due across the South West magnets, 1-2ft in Perth and Mandurah, easing Wednesday from a slightly smaller size.
Winds tomorrow will be OK but not great, moderate from the SE-S/SE, strengthening into the afternoon, with Wednesday seeing great E-E/SE offshore winds ahead of relatively weak sea breezes.
Thursday looks smaller with an E/NE offshore, but into the afternoon when sea breezes hit, a new pulse of SW groundswell is due, with a peak due Friday morning.
The source will be a broad, deepening polar low south-west of us tomorrow, with a fetch of prefrontal, strong to gale-force W/NW winds due to be followed by weaker, postfrontal W/SW winds.
Size wise, this swell looks better than tomorrow’s with a peak Friday morning to 6ft+ across the South West, 2ft Mandurah and 1-2ft Perth.
A moderate E/SE offshore is due Friday morning ahead of sea breezes, with Saturday seeing stronger E/SE winds in the morning, shifting S/SE-SE into the afternoon as the swell slowly eases.
Longer term, unfortunately there’s nothing too significant on the cards at all thanks to the Southern Ocean falling quiet. An inconsistent, small mid-period W/SW swell may be seen early-mid next week but otherwise, make the most of the coming week’s waves.
