Western Australia Surf Forecast by Craig Brokensha (issued Friday 9th September)

Best Days: Protected spots South West tomorrow from mid-morning, Perth through morning, both coasts Sunday, South West Monday and Tuesday

Recap

Terrible conditions across all coasts yesterday morning with large onshore winds. An improvement was seen across Mandurah and Perth into the afternoon though as winds eased off.

Today was the day though with clean pumping 3ft waves around Perth and lumpy 3-4ft surf around Mandurah. Margaret River is still a mess with onshore winds.

This weekend (Sep 10 - 11)

Tomorrow morning will still be average across the South West, but improving conditions are due through the day as a surface trough drifts across us.

A morning SW'ly is expected across the South West, tending S/SE mid-morning as the trough moves east, while Perth should see variable tending onshore winds.

Our good pulse of long-period SW groundswell is still due, kicking to 8-10ft through the day across the South West and 2ft+ in Perth.

Sunday will be the day to surf though with easing 6-8ft sets in the South West and 2ft waves around Perth under a fresh SE'ly.

Next week onwards (Sep 12 onwards)

A slight pulse of reinforcing S/SW groundswell is due into Monday morning, generated by a secondary front firing up on the tail of the original polar low linked to tomorrow's swell.

The South West should see 4-6ft sets early, smaller into the afternoon and Tuesday. Perth will be fading from 1-1.5ft.

A further improvement in winds should be seen with an offshore E/SE'ly, tending SE through the afternoon both Monday and Tuesday.

Longer term a series of vigorous polar front are due to fire up in our south-west swell window, generating moderate to large long-period SW groundswell pulses. The first and smallest is due to build Wednesday and peak Thursday morning, with a larger increase for later in the week. We'll have a closer look at this on Monday though. Have a great weekend!
