Best Days: Swell magnets Saturday morning in the South West, protected spots Tuesday around Margs, Perth, Margs Wednesday morning

Recap

Slow start to the day yesterday, but a good kick in SW groundswell was seen late morning and into the afternoon as strong offshores gave into sea breeze just after midday.

Today the swell dropped back quickly with inconsistent 3-4ft sets at exposed breaks under strong morning offshores which have since eased back.

Perth and Mandurah didn't see any decent size at all with tiny 0.5-1ft sets max.

This weekend and next week (Jan 30 – Feb 5)

An inconsistent reinforcing SW groundswell is due tomorrow, with swell magnets in the South West due to continue to offer infrequent 3ft+ sets with favourable E/NE tending variable winds.

Sunday will be smaller and strengthening S'ly winds associated with a deep surface trough and developing low to our south-southwest will create poor conditions.

A late increase in acute short-range S/SW swell is due Sunday from the trough, reaching 3-5ft across exposed breaks around Margs and 1-2ft in Perth, peaking Monday morning to 4-5ft and 2ft respectively before easing into the afternoon.

A secondary stronger pulse of S/SW groundswell for Tuesday has come more into our favour now with the low developing a touch further west, aiming a fetch of gale to severe-gale S/SW winds through our southern swell window.

A moderate to large S/SW groundswell should be created, arriving through Tuesday morning in the South West and peaking through the middle of the day to 6-8ft across exposed breaks. Mandurah should kick to 2-3ft, with 2ft waves in Perth.

Winds will be an issue still with SW onshores across Margs Monday (S/SE around Perth through the morning), while Tuesday should see winds tending S/SE in the South West and more SE up in Perth.

Wednesday will be the cleanest with E/SE offshores but the swell will drop rapidly from 3-4ft at swell magnets in the South West and 1ft in Perth.

Into the end of the week there's nothing too significant on the cards still, with small background energy for the most part. We'll have another look at this Monday and in the meantime, have a great weekend!
