South Australian Forecast (issued Friday 10th October)

Best Days: Sunday down South

Recap

Yesterday was great all day across the South Coast with a good easing 3ft of swell across Middleton and better bigger waves out at Waits and Parsons. The Mid continued in the tiny 1ft range.

Today the swell was smaller and still clean to 2ft down South, while the Mid was tiny and bumpy in the 0.5-1ft range.

This weekend (Oct 11 - 12)

Tomorrow is still looking like a day to miss with a late afternoon change today lingering across the South Coast tomorrow morning with a further drop in swell from today. Winds should ease through the day creating OK conditions for the late session.

Now, moving into Sunday the outlook hasn't changed too much from Wednesday with the models coming together on the wind outlook.

The large SW groundswell due to fill in during the day has been generated by a vigorous polar frontal progression currently pushing under the country.

This swell should build to 5-6ft along the Middleton stretch through the afternoon with bigger 8ft bombs at Goolwa and Waits and Parsons. The Mid Coast should kick to 2ft+ through the afternoon with the push of the incoming tide.

Winds will be good for most of the day now with fresh and gusty NW winds persisting into the early-mid afternoon ahead of a late W/SW change, so a surf down South Sunday looks to be the pick of the weekend.

Next week onwards (Oct 11 onwards)

The change is expected to move through in proper early Monday and write off the waves for most of the week across both coasts as a high pressure ridge stalls to our west while the surface trough deepens into a low off the East Coast, directing persistent S/SW winds across the state.

This should produce sizey and stormy levels of S'ly windswell across the South Coast Tuesday before easing off slowly through Wednesday and Thursday but remaining poor.

Winds probably won't swing offshore until Friday but we'll review this again on Monday.

The Mid Coast won't see any size of the S'ly windswell, with the SW groundswell expected to ease from an inconsistent and choppy 1-2ft Monday morning. Have a great weekend!
