Java, Bali, Lombok, Sumbawa forecast by Craig Brokensha (issued Tuesday 27th October)

Best Days: Wednesday morning, Thursday morning, Saturday onwards

This week and weekend (Oct 28 – Nov 1)

A slow start to the day today with background levels of swell, but a slight kick in long-range and inconsistent S/SW groundswell is due later today.

This should see exposed breaks offering 4-5ft sets on dark this evening, easing back from 3-5ft tomorrow morning with variable winds before fresh E/SE trades kick in.

Thursday will see the swell fade further, bottoming out Friday.

Our long-range and very inconsistent SW groundswell due over the weekend is still on track, generated by a strong but distant polar low firing up under South Africa over the weekend.

The swell should fill in through Saturday and peak through the middle of the day/afternoon to a very infrequent 4-5ft across swell magnets, with 3-5ft waves due into Sunday.

Moderate to fresh E/SE trades are due to develop on Friday before becoming light and variable from Saturday and remaining so through most of next week.

Next week onwards (Nov 2 onwards)

A better S/SW groundswell is expected into Tuesday and Wednesday next week, with it already starting to be produced west of Heard Island by a strong and broad polar frontal progression.

A fetch of W/SW gales projecting north-east across Heard Island while weakening should produce a good sized S/SW swell, reaching 6ft+ across exposed breaks into the afternoon, easing from a similar size Wednesday morning and further into the end of the week.

Longer term a small to moderate S/SW pulse is likely the following weekend, but more on this Thursday.
