Java, Bali, Lombok, Sumbawa forecast by Craig Brokensha (issued Tue 14th Oct)

Best Days: Every day over the coming period until later next week

This week and next week (Oct 15 - 24)

After a slow weekend some better and larger S/SW groundswell started to fill in through yesterday and while inconsistent the late afternoon offered solid bombs across Bali.

Today the swell has held in the large range across exposed breaks with light morning winds and we should see a drop in size occur through this afternoon and further through tomorrow and Thursday, bottoming out Thursday evening.

Bali should see 6-8ft sets continuing at exposed breaks tomorrow morning with light morning winds before fresh E/SE trades kick in and persist through the rest of the period (lighter and variable each morning).

Our next pulse of swell is due through Friday ahead of additional pulses Saturday and the later Monday all from the S/SW.

This will be a result of the storm track being focussed up towards WA, with a series of strong but not overly broad and impressive polar fronts moving through our southern swell window.

With the southerly direction, locations from Sumbawa east will see less size, but east facing spots across Bali should see less of a difference in size compared to the more regular west/south-west facing breaks.

An initial pulse Friday to the 6ft range at exposed spots should be followed up but a slightly stronger increase Saturday with the odd bigger set due. A slight drop in size is due into Sunday afternoon and further Monday morning ahead of the strongest S/SW groundswell pulse later in the day and Tuesday morning.

This swell should offer more noticeable sets above 6ft across exposed breaks before easing through the afternoon Tuesday and further into the rest of next week.

Unfortunately there's no major swells at all due into the end of the month with small to tiny surf due to only favour super exposed breaks. Winds do look to really ease favouring these exposed spots, but we'll review this Thursday.
