Around The Grounds: Part 1 Gold Coast

This Easter was one of the most fruitful in recent memory with almost every surfable coast on the continent receiving great waves. Over the next two days we'll be running Swellnet Sessions from the Gold Coast, Sydney, Victoria, Tasmania, South Australia and Western Australia too. Yeah, everywhere pumped.

First up is Swellnet photographer, Jack Dekort, who made a quick trip from his Sunny Coast home to the Gold Coast to capture these great images.

Sliding into the weekend

Just in time for a wave-rich weekend...

Recently, Jack Dekort caught (kort?) longboarder Jackson Winter cruising the Noosa points under a bite-sized easterly swell. As always, Jackson was surfing with casual style and aesthetic aplomb.

Hope y'all get a few sliders this weekend.

Sunny Coast Sun

The Sunshine Coast has been struggling to meet its moniker the past week. Persistent rain has blocked the sun and caused flooding of LNP proportions. Once the clouds parted and the sun shone again Jack Dekort followed Mitch Adams to the beach and nabbed these shots.

Mitch on rail and in the air.

Beachies and Points

We've got leaps and bounds for the footyheads, Saints and Kings for the inner-city dwellers, and six and out for the cricket yobs.

Well, here's our surfing version - Beachies and Points. As shot by Jack Dekort and featuring Mitch Adams launching on the beach and Jackson Winter styling on the point.

Golden Hour on the Points

The Noosa Festival of Surfing is currently in full swing with competitors riding a variety of craft while traversing First Point. Earlier this week a crew including Jack Lynch, Jackson Winter, Mat Chojnacki, Luke Potter and Mark Sharp shucked the contest vests and took to the water in the wee twilight hour.

Jack Dekort caught them having a ball as the sun dipped in the west casting a golden light on the water.

Harrison Roach at Pipe: A Change of Pace

Harrison Roach recently displayed his versatility on a longboard. Better known for his smooth longboard style on the mellow Noosa points Harrison successfully adapted his act to the intensity of Pipe. Photographer Jack Dekort caught him going through his paces while riding a classic Hawaiian downrail pintail.

And the fun don't done

The 2012 Aussie contest season is heating up with two comps down and the Quikky Pro about to begin, yet the Hawaiian season is still to end. Those still on the Rock - locals and tourists alike - have been experiencing a great late season burst of swell.

Jack Dekort has been one of the fortunate few and scored these photos for us, all taken during the past week.

Late Charge

It's a good time to be in Hawaii: the contests are well and truly over and the majority of the pros have left, the crowds are thinning, and the sand is cleared off the reefs that count. Best of all the swell is stil pumping.

Our man on the ground, Jack Dekort, has timed his stay well. He sent this slection through to us - photos taken during the past week on the North Shore.

Pipeline this morning

Pipe surfers had just a small window of opportunity to fill their quota this morning. According to Swellnet photographer, Jack Dekort, morning wind conditions were close to perfect with just a light offshore puffing. For a few hours Pipeline pumped with Kelly Slater, amongst many others, putting on a great display of surfing on his quad. It was a short-lived session, however, with the wind swinging onshore around lunch.

Here's Jack's shots, taken while the wind was offshore and the session in full swing.

Between the Rain Showers

The coast of SE Queensland has been buffetted by rain for what seems the best part of January. The weather system causing the deluge is broad and slow moving, but fortunately it's also been creating a bit of swell - albeit wind-affected swell.

Queensland photog Jack Dekort has been dodging the showers and shooting whenever the sun makes a rare glimpse through the clouds. This batch of photos were all shot over the last two weeks in a rain-sodden Sunshine State. The surfers include Seb Wilson, Mitch Adams, Harrison Roach and Jackson Winter.

Lip bashes and assorted barraphenalia

Interstate blow-ins are easy to spot: they're so excited at the prospect of a couple of hundred metres of green wall, that they try to cram in a thousand turns before the section is inevitably partitioned by an obliging punter.
