Couldnt see it in that link uplift ? Are u just joking . U need his real name not nickname i think , i found it easily so it must be simple

uplift, 1394102229

Why would I joke about something like that, and risk getting knuckled by bruteless. Anyway, when I saw my name I got excited and thought I won something. Should I keep looking... if its that easy help me and post the link.

southey, 1394103032

hippys, 1394107478

straight up Craig Walgers radical , beautiful to watch .

sidthefish, 1394135028

Mark Plater, that's him. Thanks Freeride.

Philos sounds about right for PC. I can imagine him happily somewhere like that.

agree hippy, Craig Walgers was class.

Rossy Philips, Craig Gunnis.

B-Lee got a mention back up there somewhere, I have a sneaky memory he made the finals of the Pro-Class trials on his first trip to Hawaii, took a bomb at Sunset.

I guess there are different dimensions of surfers noted here, and what classifies heroes & legends. On one hand you have the chargers / nut cases, on another you have the rad freaks, then you have the stylemasters from gens past. All just as valid as each other IMO.

Surfing isn't just about BIG waves any more than Yoga is about being a rubber chicken.

Like which is better, a BIG short barrel, or a smaller longer barrel ? Depends on your venues, depends on your capacity. It's relative I guess .

morris, 1394136129

Paddy Ryan, Sandy Ryans father was was one of the best surfers I've seen at Express, Phillip Island. True style master, impeccable timing.

Sid, the smaller longer barrel is way better, lasts longer and takes more skill to weave your way out.But on a satisfaction level, about the same.

You don't need a lot of skill to be a good big wave rider. Before you jump on me about this comment I said "good" not "hot"

Sheepdog, 1394139526

Wellymon and morris; Cheers wellsy, as long as the bridge aint westgate or hobart. A happy troll needs a decent roof over his head ;) ps - check out the old beasts hanging for their dear lives

morris - Ahhh Express point..... Back in the late 80s, a young sheepdog pup went on a classic Aussie roadtrip...... Anyway, got to penguinland, and...... fuck..... Now, being the internet, and me being a faceless entity, I could say this young goofy sheepdog paddled out and got laybacked off his nut..... But hey, honesty brings respect..... I sat there, whimpering, whining like a dog in a thunderstorm.. "i can handle Burleigh, Kirra,,, my backhand is ok"..... Um....... No it aint!!! So I just sat there watching, a qlder enjoying for the first time how good it feels to piss in a steamer ;)

I think you mean Matt Ryan.

Speaking of Phillip Island surfers, both Gremmie and Vaughny are guys id give my vote too.

morris, 1394142319

Yes I do Indo. It was 35 years ago.

Yeah sheepdog, it's hard for queenslanders to get used to viccos wave as they're fat and they don't barrel. ;-D

Sheepdog, 1394142895

hehheheheee Morris.... Luv ya work ;)

Sheepdog, 1394146255

Amazed no one has brought up "GT". Was on the hill at the Stubbies when he got that barrell. Think it was Critta he knocked out. Don't quote me on that.... I suppose he wasn't "underground", but certainly wasn't a "spotlighter". Definite legend in gods country
"GT" - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cn8ycPHZBy8

yocal, 1394148146

Hahah Uplift I had the pleasure of meeting Les Norrish. What a loose cannon! We had just done a trip up to Quobba and were heading south, out at Jakes, only small but he was at the top of the point looking about 70 years old in his hand-made fibreglass white helmet (which looked like he literally wrapped his head in resin soaked bandages of 6oz and let it dry in the sun before removing it... kinda like you do with paper mashe' on a baloon) yelling at a booger to fuck-off or he'll bash him. So I paddle up and sit on his outside and he starts telling me that if you look up his name on the internet he has a bodyboarders hate site named after him..."Les Norrish, Look it up!" after a bit of sizing up he asks where I'm from... from there we got talking about Sunshine coast and Straddy etc (im a Brizzo) even let me have a few leftover waves haha. Then back in the carpark he's ranting to someone else about bashing boogieboarders and as we drive out I give him a wave and he says "Straddie boy, i'll hook you with a right later!"
funny fella.

Another mention above was Thornton Fallander, I never met him but I spent 2 years (best years of my life) living down in Yamba and his sons- cant remember their names (Matt & ???) - only young chargers, still in high school and you would always see them out at Spooks when it was makking and closing out the bay, taking the biggest ones they could get on these awesome yellow guns the old man probably made for them. They have a good crack at it.

brutus, 1394148234

oh uplift..thank your for your continuing great works of fiction......I can read between the lines how envious you are of real stories, real surfers........and then you go on and post...

nothing comments from brenton sanderson ,couldn't you find where he said..the team had slimmed down this year so that they would have more aerobic capaicity, which means ...bulking up means lees aerobic capacity...and pray tell...does surfing need aerobic capacity??

I think another really underrated surfer was Neil Luke from the Island, with Matt Ryan......

southey, 1394152531

On the Island Express , Steve Demos & Dugga . stood out in my mind . Tony Ringa paid his dues there too .

sidthefish, 1394155013

Sheepie, GT Timpo was my grommiehood hero too. Think he got 2 x 3rds at the Stubbies, it was awesome to watch him take the top off off some of those Burleigh sets. And there ya go uppo, Timpo, Cundiths #1 rider - double concave fluted flyer swallow twinnies - very choice piece of machinery, I would happily still ride one now. Fuck, Timpo was a solid bloke with a lotta power for a twinfin and he would push them to the very edge just before they became twinspins. Some of the Byron boys tell me, in between fucked back periods, he still throwin a mal round just the same.

I think a GT got mentioned back up there somewhere but I figured it was GT Gary Taylor from Morn Peninsula.

I'll chuck in for the Viccos... Rambo, cos he rips, he's got nuts, he's just such a damn nice bloke, and I Love him

and Pete Johnno, cos he rip too, HE IS NUTS, and he's just one of those guys that colors the world loud, and we need guys like him to save us from the meek inheriting the earth, and I Love him too.

Plus one for the Central Coasters ... Bryden 'Cowsbreath' Gailbraith, ditto as Rambo.

sidthefish, 1394155139

yep, Bruce fitzgerald was Kong's sidekick in WA, at Aussie T's and on the Bluff / Book trip. Well done hippys / boys.

Just spoke to the grey grommet who was also on that trip, and he said the last he saw / heard of Fitzy was a long , long barrel at Desert Point in one of PKs vids circa '92, with soundtrack from - drum roll - The Jan Juc Jets (Skelly, Rouser & Co).

Zen, I remember the Kingsley you mentioned, but also can't peg the last name, maybe Snail can help me out there.

Chap has a fucked knee, still in the Tweed.

Wayne Deane anyone ? Still doin' it.

and Dave Smith, ex-Straddie, he's had covers of Line-Up, ASL, SW, Tracks, Surfing and Surfer, not many can lay claim to that.

uplift, 1394167037

Oh bruteless, aaaaaaaahhhhhhhhhh yes, the lines. No need to read between any lines that you know fuck all about fitness, or training, and even used to openly bag it on here, but suddenly about faced when you realised that you needed to keep the image up.

Actually Surfing the wave is anaerobic, power based. Waves don't last long at all. Paddling is aerobic, but also needs bursts of power, although in the comps, they use skis as well. There are prolonged periods of sitting in semi pro surfing, tons of recovery time, and heats only last 25 minutes. Again:

'No one has stood out more than Taylor Walker during Crows pre-season training, says coach Brenton Sanderson.'

'Sanderson said his 192cm, 100kg powerhouse had been “meticulous’’ with his rehabilitation and would return a more-rounded player than the one who led Adelaide’s goalkicking with 63 in his last full season in 2012.'

Tune 'im big mozza.

'gidday maaaayte, me farkin name's farkin mozza farkin cole, dun a bit a farkin trainin' in me farkin day I 'ave, wayne seen me aye, an me an RCJ, the worlds greatest athlete are 'ere to put yar through yar farkin' paces, yar 100 kilo fat, slow cunt...'

Pray all you like. And trim the semi pros down to 25 kg if you like, the fans will love it.

brutus, 1394167717

had any bites lately????

ahhhhplift.........c'mon mate slim down ,stop taking the hook line and sinker....and deliver a bit of anaerobic antedotes for us dolts that just don't get being a beefcake!!

caml, 1394174400

good read this one s dog good call ! lotsa the names are from an era just a bit older than mine but yeah have heard of most o them underground legends . when some one mentioned sandy ryan and his old man ,thought well its time for a bit younger crew to be named , sandy ryan ! hell yeah , was that cowes galbraith ? met him once 20 yr ago when he won a comp at rotto ,he still rips hey? i cant name em all but heres acupla more , travis potter, karl beadham ,shannan worrall, boordo, chris ross, neil wackett, lochie c,mick tomlinson, tony hardy. and some of them guys already mentioned like curtis, yaz, les. well theres a few and some young fellas too like lochie from the bluff . theres more but cant think of em at moment ...

sidthefish, 1394175143

oh fuck. ZAPPA ...

Uppo, Straddie wasn't the only locale' Johnny Boy got sent on, he also got a sawn offf shot gun, conceiled under a trench coat, stuck under his nose, in the Kirra carpark.

uplift, 1394178547

That sounds pretty radical sid. I don't like that guns style stuff, but the Specht thing was just wanting to sort out face to face. Those days are pretty much finished now though, its the new era of court orders, restraining orders etc.

And like has been previously mentioned, underground is pretty gone too, went ages ago. It was an absolute no no showing photos in most 'underground' places back then, now its the total opposite. Just changing times.

Because we loved the left hander, we used to hear some good stories about John Batcheldor.

wellymon, 1394183354

shaun, 1394184687

shaun, 1394184882

A few of these guys mentioned you could not call underground, some of them would have sold their mother for a shot in a magazine.

shaun, 1394184946

Morrisagain

morris, 1394185222

What about Shaun, no one could rip it up in his own dreams like the man himself.

sidthefish, 1394185908

It happened, NO, it wasn'about territory, or the exposure, it was about attitude.

The Koori boys, The Gaurdians, met it at the ferry, just to make sure it went back elsewhere,

Then he met the shot-y, at Kirra .

uplift, 1394186627

I'm not biased, and I even think that gatesy, the 'bronzed gimp', and grogesy deserve a bit of a mention. Shit, once gatesy eerrr, well there was this time... no there wasn't, ok then, so sometimes gatesy, well, sometimes, no he didn't, well, if it was uuhhmm, I think once... maybe somebody said, well then, ok, at sleaford once, nope, not even that, he was a, eerrrr.

Ok then, grogesy then, grogesy used to, errr, well, he could... well he would've, no he didn't, I think, perhaps... sometimes... once if it was, if, when, maybe, he coulda... shit, no he couldn't.

What the fuck, was I thinking, I aplogise profusely. I'm sorry, neither of them did, or do fuck all, in fact, they were, and are, and always will be all time, all universe, underground geeks. At least they have tiny, insignificant little footprints. Unless you look at them magnified through the bottom of a coupla empty, recyclable, printless 'goons. Plucked from a native 'goon bush. Goonamaximus shitloadsaheapsus. The glass pile down the end of a bottomless, sandy trail. The untraceable grapevine. Sorry again.

mundies, 1394188736

Probably doesn't count as underground, but kudos to Heath Joske on possibly the day of the year a couple years ago at my local on an orange single fin, on a wave where fins near the rails are very helpful, getting barrelled off his head every wave with style. I grew up surfing in south oz, so my call for underground charger is Chris Ellis. He was doing a parko silky smooth style before parko was.

upnorth, 1394190974

Chris Kingston, built a house on the west coast to be as close as possible to his favourite barreling right, a remote beauty at the end of several goat tracks under huge cliffs, filled his boots himself or with mates for years. Few years ago now when he was frontman for The Vermen. Doubt he ever won anything and would no doubt be mortified to know he was mentioned here but much respect for his surfing but more his attitude, living life to the full and happy to be inclusive. An all round decent bloke as well, still dropping his 6ft+ frame into the same barrels with easy languid style, just not quite as often.

uplift, 1394195860

Kingo?????? Fuck, just because he built a house under something... Twiggy Gordon's tried that angle too, to no avail, I've flown way up the fuckin' list now. Suck eggs Gaul.

southey, 1394205276

@ toneranger .
did i ring your bell ???

If so , how does it feel to be the only contributor in here (apart from caml) that has been given props .
[Uplift you don't count , 'cause either Stu's a terrible judge or you've already nominated yourself a dozen times , so it cancels you out off the bat ] .

@ Caml .... you mentioned Karl B . he already got props in the brett herring article comments ( and Uplift ragged him ) can you confirm come of the G Land stories from that Event that Brett got subbed in for . Did he own it ? I've seen Brett show some Hawaiin's up at BIG Desserts .

caml, 1394227475

Probably did southey . I wasnt there , think he took my place in the comp . Have seen a pic of him on a 12ft bomb that comp he didnt win but im sure he had a go . Truth is he always drank too much beer to really perform near his potential . Currently hes been sober for 6 months so hes been blowing everyone away ! Hope i get the opportunity to surf with him this year at our annual billibong challenge up nwest

caml, 1394228473

Upster is right about fotos being blackbanned by true underground salts . Some of the names here are a bit um ,have been in mags , if it says unknown surfer thats genuine . Gotta agree with upster on that

trippergreenfeet, 1394230198
my call for underground charger is Chris Ellis. He was doing a parko silky smooth style before parko was.
+1 for Cheeky.
Crawford Brown wasn't too bad either.

trippergreenfeet, 1394230480

Darren Glasson was a young bloke who was a standout in sth oz, charged, could tear the bag, had style and was fearless. Unfortunately he became a casualty to mental illness before his prime.

trippergreenfeet, 1394230806

Matt Alexander, natural born surfer. Ripped, charged and had a style that I'd rather watch than 95% of the pro tour. The surfer's surfer.

toneranger, 1394230938

Southy,i must be a little bit slow,so can you expand on what "given props' means.it's all a little too cryptic for me

southey, 1394234073

someone mentioned sandy's dad , Matt , and maybe some other PI guys .... i mentioned demos , dugga and Glyndon's brother . your forum name could be construed to be him , especially since it sounds like you grew up around PI ??

toneranger, 1394235874

Thanks Southey ,i understand now.Yep,did most of my surfing down at P.I. from 1972-82 before moving over to s.a. Was a member of the boardrider's club in the days when headquarters was at Bottleneck beach on no surf afternoons drinking barrells.Oh,if i could only have those brain cells back.one of my mates down there who surfed Express regularly mentioned Steve Demos as a charger.I used to get my rush down the other end at B.P.P. What a barrell that was.The price of admission was a lot of skin.Great days. These are the names of the guys i remember around that era.John Mason.Tim Brockley, the Stevic bros.,the Neave bros.Paul Cochrane,Dingo,Jug,Scotty Wilson........etc.

upnorth, 1394235947

Not sure nominating yourself counts uplift, its more peer review, but if you need to blow your own go ahead.
Kingo fits into the underground part perfectly, fully committed, still charging under the radar. The hero part may be stretching things but he's a top bloke in and out of the water and his band weren't bad either.

udo, 1394236183

Cheeky ellis stylemaster, earlier days Darren 'grape ape' Earle, Johnno hinks.

brutus, 1394236653

c'mon uplift, show a bit of love for Kingo..or what about telling your version of SIARGO.....???

grog-an, 1394240684

that would be amasing

overthefallsg, 1394240779

Underground chargers really the guys who were too wasted to create anything of a career other than shit kicking on a building site for minimum wage ( if lucky enough to havre an ABN ).. collecting the dole ( when you could pre Howardism) and sitting in the pub drinking at the public bar till 12 two nights out of three.

Then there was the surfing, mindless manouvers that blew the 80's fringes straight off ye forehead. (that Bourne character of note on the lazer zap one memoral trip through Avoca).

So many Underground chargers that will never make it on tour beacause they never sucked Sarges arse hard enough. To get to the top you need to really nibble, fiddle, felch and pucker that corporate arse real goood likes. I will digress from naming pro surfers on here because its the ÜNDERGROUND CHARGERS FORUM (mainly QLDers back stroking other QLDers) and the pros surf more often, better and get paid to do it than oneself.

See Les Norrish gets a mention, Lets throw in Bags from WC SA for total style throwing the ole Arms casually behind the back behind the curtain any given wave at the ... secret spot.

Jeff Tar form Vicco gettin a mention back there aswell, go the tarbaby.

I'll throw in a Dave Occonell alias DOC who is one of those loose ye 80'fringe shredders.

Big ups to Yazzie out of the younger crew.

West Australians best underground charger... Mick Shaw possibly.

From QLD the bloke that used to travel here with Kong, back in the days wouldn't be a fella goes by the name of Spock? Shredding Goofy footer who spent many years in Gland perfecting the style. Met him over there, great lookin missus aswell, oh and a champion fighter Uplift, trains up and takes down oponents with just the forcefield surrounding his moving backhander.

What about a tall mashed up lookin dude from the Sunny coast goes by the mane of Thommo?
Met that dude at the Corner Bar in Margaret River one year and what a loose character... After only two pints of good ole sparkling ale he gets turfed from the pub and i had to, (lets not missinterperet this next phrase) pull him off the big chicken legged wanna be pornstar bouncer Tarzan. Fuck Thomo could throw em mashed up that Tarzan character real good, his nose won't ever be the same, like a dishplate now. Saw him charge North point the next day like it was a dribbler little right off Tea Trees. He had a mate wif him also TBurger, a goofy who thought he charged but couldnt handle it when me mate Hodgekiss dropped in on him down Boodge one day.

Anyways.

Met that Dutts Character that trip aswell, I think that he be still working on me ole Top to Bottom that i gave to him to fix. Wonder if he is still doin dings?

Curtis an Holley gettin a mention, Holly, Gaul (those cats still B B-Boyin i bet)

Underground heroes: stuff of legend staus...

And oh yeah, Brutus and Uplift... Keep the gloves on fellas, else someone gonna get HURT!

sidthefish, 1394241287

Tarry is so underground, he doesn't want to take anyone down the coast with him, sometimes he doesn't even want to take himself with him.

Sheepdog, 1394241890

Overthefalls, maaaate ...... Dunno what thread your readin', but I just scrolled through...... boyz from south oz, Wa, Phillip Island, North NSW, Not just qlders....... And in my original post, I mentioned that some "underground heroes" even got a bit of airplay like "the cosmic psychos" ( a non Qld band BTW).
Spart, the bloke I highlighted, is from Kiwiland......
So, I don't think it's too much of a sin to mention the like of Guy omerod, or even Rod "the box" Kerr.
I do get your points though, re' shit kicking on a building site, and sucking up sarges arse.
Cheers, man.

Mrsuplift, 1394242319

Uplift the movie would be great except for the much needed subtitles!
What are your thoughts lifty? AKA mumbles!

sidthefish, 1394243014

horseshit OTF, hero status can be qualified by whatever you want.

We had a guy from school days who had leg amputated, he came back to surf a mal with a prosthesis.

the local Doc lost a hand to a chainsaw, he took to a knee board cos he had paddling problems, on a kneelo he could kick onto the waves with fins.

were they heros ? absolutely. someone may well be your hero just by the way they conduct themsleves.

Then you have Uppo, who is his own hero.

overthefallsg, 1394243125

OI Sheepdog,

QLD bummin QLDers, a state sport, oh and dropping in, thats there other past time. Got ya shot on the bands, Can throw in Thrust (QLD) and The FUCK FUCKS (Vico)!

This upcommin doco sounds the guts aswell UPPOMENTARY! Sick balls, road trips to Sheringa blowin fringes away there and pointers on how to punch the livin shit outa any boogers or SUP's

ps -Try Venom P Stinger (Vicco), Permanent Damage (can't remember, vicco I think).
Or if you into a bit of overseas stuff, Go "Discharge", album- "hear nothing see nothing, say nothing.... An absolute classic....

overthefallsg, 1394247971

UPPO UPPO and away hey... better get the head gear on LOL!

Yeees Underground heroes, Pity Baby Boomers are a word that ruined that beautiful state of yours (not the government local rednecks voted in) or the fat rich cunt mining companies they invited of course.

BOOMER, Now theres another underground heroes that still paddles The Third reef at Longy (as if anyone cares) when its 8ft plus and then when the westpac helicopter flys out from mascot to save his life he casually eskimo rolls over and shows em all BOOMER sprayed on the bottom of his board in red for all the baby boomers to see on the nightly news.

You got Scotty Mac (not toe to toe) who after years on his knees (Simon Farrer style) eventually found his way to his feet and now on his 9 ft mal not quite, but but almost... well in a nine beer way kind of style sets trim and rides em out merrily singing stranded (the Saints) to glory not so much going left but has the right kinda down pat. HERO!

Dave Mcdonagh, Lord of the 8 footers before 8 footers were 8 footer on 8 footers at (secret spot) backdooring the bowl section and drawing out those lines at the beach shack where all who were there to witness it were totally blown away.

You got John Christenson Goat Boat lord, who could surf speially at fist rock DY but chose to sit the dot down instead and bought thousands of KOOKS into the line up during the mid 80's to hassle, drop in on and ding everyones boards they could possibly try to line up and run down. Still waiting for Dutts to repair one ding from a nasty collision late 80's, wonder if the price of dings has gone up? Anyway John Christenson, shredding surfer, Underground yes, but Hero... The jury is out on that one. Goat Boater = Ocean Bikie. Cunts! UPPO wouldn't ave it!

Underground Heroes... Remember a flick around the world in 80 waves,
Story goes At the same previously mentioned corner bar above Bonython has run into a chappy at the bar by the name of Dougal, Had a beer with him and admired his graceful staggering to and from the beer garden, Bonython, blown away by how much this bloke can drink and smoke calls bullshit that Dougal can actually surf, later that afternoon when the wind goes offshore (after about 15 pints) Dougal drives (DD was ok to do in those days) Bonython down the point and proceeds to go out and rip the living bags outa the joint. Bonython (Now stoned and pissed) Loves the guys style so much that he makes the final cut. HERO.

OK, if I had to nail it down it'd be the first name. Why? Cos this photo of Popout was taken when I was six and he's still out there doing it. Doesn't always have the best manners in the surf but has a lust for it that can't be contained.

Stunet: I am now politically correct out 2nd reef. Only because im 56yrs old 5ft 5in tall weigh 63kgs,
but mainly because after having my shoulder torn of my body I just cannot paddle anymore. Ha Ha
I now only take the one wave I want out of the sets. cheers stayed tubed

Sheepdog, 1394256063

Sad to hear, evo surfer. My body is falling apart too, and I'm only late 40s.... Everything fucked up when I got the big "C" back in late 09.... Just sorta coming good in the last 6 months. It's one thing losing your fitness when you are young. Freekn melanoma, mate..... Looks like someone axed me in the back........ Then on the "comeback trail", bits and pieces break every time one hits the brine..... But aye, we're still fightin' the good fight, bloke....... And you do really appreciate every moment in the water......

uplift, 1394257561

I've just spent the whole fuckn night, wandering around bawlin my fucking eyes out, after reading camsters story elswhere. In fact, when I went to get more tissues, all I can see, is that the streets are full of people sobbing and bawling their eyes out, and the whole town is out of tissues. And, wordy, although he's also been up all night with bruteless, desperately plottin' (yeah, ya can take the big cunt brutser, no farkin wuzza's, mmmaaaayyyte), and trying to get the triple barbed, tripple ganger out of his blubber guts, reckoned between sobs, that the story is the same from Penong to Lincoln. I saw Fordy just staring out to sea, blubbering, sobbing, completey shattered, and it turns out him and jervis have been on the blower, and now Gaully's gonna take camless on as a sparky.

But, back on topic, what is more disturbing, is what a fucking debacle this, sheepers pride and joy, has become in my absence. Every fuckin geek under the sun is coming onboard as a 'hero'. In my absence, the whole thing has become a useless showcase of rambling kooks and losers.

And, if you thought camlessly's gut wrenching story was sad, well Fordy, or was it jervis, maybe bordo, put it in perspective. One of them pointed out, 'imagine avin to be you fer a farkin day, big lifty, magine havin ta be a real farkin hero, day in day out, like you yar big cunt, eh!' Fucking exactly. People like bruteless think, 'yeh, look at fuckin lifty, lucky big cunt, good looking, huge, rips, chicks fuck'n love im, smart, normal nose, he's lucky, his back's not fucked, he's got the whole fuckin show goin on.' Well you know what, let me tell you, its not so fuckin easy. Its always been the same, for 60 years. 'Bruteless is gorna get ya', 'wordies really mad', 'soufle's got mates', 'little stupid grogesy's pissed orf', 'benny farkin' deleted ya', 'stuup' reckons yar a stoopin cunt', 'sid's gonna dump a chia log on ya'... and so on, and so on, and so on. Which becomes, yeah, well, well, well brutsey's gang and gatesy gang's joined up so there, and are gonna get yar'. Which becomes, yeah, well, well, well, so, well, amblets's gang and brutesy's gang, and soufle's mates, and benners boys are gettin really, really pissed now, so, so, so now they're gonna really, really get yar... or else their farkin dad's will any farkin way!!! But, again, I digress, obviously that's never been, or isn't remotely any sort of problem whatsover.

The real pain, the real anguish is this. I never asked to be better looking than everyone else. I never asked to be bigger than everyone else. I never wanted to be a legend. I never wanted to rip. In fact, every night, I pray, and pray, and pray, and plea, and beg, please God, please God, please, please... just please let me just wake up and be an ugly, scrawny, or chubby, useless unit, like the rest of the poor loser chumps, please! So I jump up in the morning, rush to the mirror, and, sure enough, thanks a fucking lot God, there I am, impossible as it seems, ugly? Right, as if, no, in fact, better fucking looking than ever, even more rippling than ever, even smarter than ever, and when I head out the fuckin door, chicks ogling me left right and centre, like a fucking sex object. But do I give up? Do I dive headfirst into a bin, no fuckin way. And even though, you'd think, could lifty get even fuckn better, and could semi pro surferes get even scrawnier and tinier, and even though the answer is yes, and yes, they are, they actually fucking are, I fight on camsless.

So I guess, I'm saying, give the useless dawg his thread back. In fact, have ya fucking thread back sheepster, I never wanted it to be about me, I never asked to be an underground fucking hero. Its not my fault.

And camster, 7.00am sharp start. Bring your shovel. Gaully'll get yer outa the bins maaaayyte.

but Uppo, if you'd go easier on the vagina weight lifting / vagina kung fu . you wouldn't be such a big cunt, and we wouldn't feel so threatened.

And if the Uppomentary is gunna fly, you'll need the right balance of awesomeness and godliness, so losing your shit like that little roid-rage / meth-meltdown is a no-go from a marketing perspective.

Hilarious bourne ! Tellin ya the reef was shuddering today but none o them heroes were surfing mustve all gone elsewhere hey

Sheepdog, 1394262330

I love uplifts rants after 4.00pm when he's been drinking for at least 2 hours... It's like bold and the beautiful, home and away, and Australia's biggest loser all wrapped into one neat little package . His pre 2.00pm posts I just ignore. One stubby every every 20 minutes = "6 pack gold".....
The handsome chiseled looks of "Ridge Forrester", the sub standard script and acting of Summer Bay, and the banal macabre voyerism of a get fit reality tv show....
It's a beautiful thing, narcissism meets fantasy in a self indulgent bulimic convulsion.....
I love the "Stair dodgers" work.
Funny thing is, the stair dodger , the one who goes up lifts, well he and I know eachother.... He just hasn't figured it out yet..... Here's a video we made ages ago, in our youth. Ahh the sheepdog and stairdodger in the good old days.....

What the fuck that had anything to do with "undergound heroes" has got me fucked. So he's the first bloke in over 100 comments to take the subject off tangent, and then has a whinge that it's gone off tangent. Classic.....
Mate, we're all not as stupid as you. Start the fire and point the finger ya dick.....
Anyway, "Undergound heroes" - 153 comments in 4 days, minus uplifts input, still best part of 150 comments... in 4 days

Great clip sid, I liked his story. Cool guy.

uplift, 1394366583

Yeh he did camster. He could surf, but was a sleezy, shifty little prick. Would seem all right at first, but figured because he could surf, he could do what he liked. An underground hero. Reece and I surfed with him first in some solid waves, and he looked /surfed a bit like Tom Carroll. But, he tried ripping everyone off, up and down the whole coast. Eventually he had to leave the whole area. He owed money and shit left right and centre. He was a seriously wanted, sponging little shit everywhere as he fled back to Sydney. But fuck, we got heaps of them back then. I used to see tons of them when I was running the park. Always an almost identical story. 'Bin up the NW I have, big tombies eh.' 'Surfed margs bombie on me way round south, I done, big eh' 'Ad farkin gillos good last year eh... wouldn't ave a durry would ya maaaayyyyteee, score a bit a wax orf ya maaaayyyytteeee... aven't gort a farkin spare leggy ave ya maaaaaaayyyyteee.' What they really wanted to say was, 'I'm here to show yas all how good I am'. If you'd just finished mowing lawns and emptying septics with a shovel all day, it was all you could do to stop from stuffing them down a crack in the limestone. Someone would do it eventually though.

uplift, 1394367743

Yeh they said it was heavy yesterday camless, big period leap hey. Beautiful today, did you get some there? I'll say this camel, because people, maybe you too might take the last post wrong. You were always easy to surf with, a good kid. Not like that. Wish you didn't do that wetty shit though.

hem-stret, 1394387567

I have to put in Garth Dickensen. I watched him when I was younger, I didnt understand what I was actually seeing until about 10 years later, really liked the rail work. Had a sik line into the tube. Turned up to sensitive areas without cameras and blogs. At least 2 things pros cant do today...................

hem-stret, 1394387898

I like Neal Purchase Jnr/Margo. Carve and tubes. I have an outstanding issue with NPJ though. Ive got an old video, theres a scene where he's on a little surf mission somewhere, looking very jungle and lush, they must of run out of petrol. It shows him chucking the empty little fuel can into the bush/river. It was sort of a dolphin/nature surfing style type of video too. Doesnt sit with his image, and deducts points off backhand tubes for life............

hem-stret, 1394387953

I have to acknowledge the fact Garth was mentioned earlier on this thread...............

shaun, 1394399311

I know what your saying hem-stret, there is nothing more annoying than watching one of your favourite underground surfers videos and the character he plays is out of context with his many other videos and the image that I have been fed by various surf magazines.

This is an interesting read as some of you guys have blurred the line on what is underground, to me an underground surfer just does it cause he loves surfing and would cringe at the thought of promoting himself.

Wayne Lynch was the forefather of the commercial underground maverick, a world title and several movies under his belt he becomes a hippie and turns his back on the surfing media, occasionally popping up in an american surfing magazine for a travel brochure of the 12 apostles to top up the bank account.
There was countless ex-pro's after Wayne that made a bit of pocket money from turning their back on the media and writing an autobiography, but it was Rasta who took it to a new level. He couldn't quite make it to the elite level and was losing sponsors, so in preference to working for a living he reinvented himself and pulled off the best piece of wank I have ever seen in surfing, getting sponsored not to go in competitions. A fucken brilliant move, when he has a bad surf it is not in a heat for all the world to see in a contest that is on a webcast. Now all the bad waves go in the bin, only the best make it onto you tube.

Sheepdog, 1394406067

That was a good read, shaun.... Cheers. Coudn't agree more re' Rasta......Got me thinkn' about 2 other blokes... Exact opposite of eachother.... Chris Davidson - a wild man shit hot surfer who started his journey as an "underground hero" all those years ago at Bells v Kelly, who has ended up a "respected professional"
Then there's Nick Wood... Started off as a teenage sponsors dream, MR protege, and ended up as the "bad guy".
Matt Hoy and Shane Herring also come to mind......

old-dog, 1394408517

Surely Roger Matthews deserves an honorable mention here , he was back-dooring 8ft+ slabs at Blacks in the early 80s when most of the heroes were farting around on the shoulder, he is about 54 now and still keener than most groms and still rips. Even though he has a room full of trophies from 40 years of state and national titles his act was so smooth and he made it look so easy that it went over many judges heads resulting in many rip offs. I'm calling that he has clocked up more tube time than any other South Aust. in the history of surfing.

trippergreenfeet, 1394409933

My definition of an underground surfer is "For the love of surf, nothing more, nothing less with a 'natural born' ability" and has NEVER entered a surf comp or had a photo enter a publication - with the exception of a pic finding its way unsolicited. I could use the colloquial too - against the mainstream, of which in this context is any kind of promotion or reward for personal gain.

My definition removes many names from this list, even one I listed myself.

Shaun, your on the money with many of the new breed "soul" surfers. Donovan needs to be included on that list too. Soul my arse, when ya getting a pay check with fringe benefits, all bragging rights to being underground are lost.

winkie, 1394410984

Yeah, i reckon Roger too. Having seen many times his tube skills in serious waves he is definitely up there.
Some of the other so-called underground heroes that have been mentioned is almost ridiculous.

barley, 1394413967

Brian 'squizzy' Taylor..absolute top guy..absolute shredder

Craig, 1394415900

Yep Roger M, pioneer of SA surfing especially around the lower EP and a quiet underground character. Always seems to pop up at the best spots when they're on. But old-dog he has entered a few comps over the years, but never seeks attention.

southey, 1394418052

got a running title for the " Uppumentary" ...

" Self proclaimed Heroes . One Bourne every day . "

Now i'm sure we could get a few of you literary genius's to better this ,
and while your at it you may as well fit in as the script writer ....... or we could just make shit up ...
Then we'd be sticking to the story line more closely ....

sir ambrose beachfucker, 1394418562

Roger M has consistently surfed this coast better than any one has for the last 35 years from maxing blax to solo outer reef sessions on surfboards designed shaped and glassed by him.

I've got an "anti hero" hehehe. A bloke everyone used to call "munya". Alan was his real name. He'd have to be dead now... No doubt..... A dead set psychopath lunatic..... I was "lucky" enough to be invited by him and his boat owning mate to go out and surf the Great barrier reef. I was about 17. These blokes were in their mid 20s..... I felt safer once in the water with the live coral and reef sharks than I did on the boat..... A dead set psychopath, take off on anything, laugh like a madman when bleeding profusely, could go from wanting to crush your skull to a friendly rugby spear tackle in the blink of an eye.....

mikehunt207, 1394628270

@caml, met carl at the bluff many years ago, he fixed my snapped board for some food and corn, was best surfer there at that time, classic missing tooth, single fin aussie ripper, met him again a year or so ago after dragged him in from near drowning and wash thru to rivermouth via rocks, too many durries and some hard years , still alive and living in Karridale , was his first surf in longtime and bad choice 10ft Margs, burnt a few bridges over years I think but found god and trying hard .

caml, 1394634153

Yeah mike right on still in margs is he i did meet him there 3 yrs ago . I remember upless talked him up quite well back in 96 . Rors- What tip? I've spun that much bullshit here I can't remember :)..... What are we talkn?..... qld surf? boards? How to backdoor your best mates chick? The best way to manicure tomatoes? Enlighten me... :o)

Sheepdog, 1395380025

rors... yeah, I remember now...... Big guys in little waves... Man, it's actually really hard to put into words.... I'll have a think on how to explain and get back....

sidthefish, 1395384617

Owen Wright. Brett Hodge. Even Flex. Its all about leverage.

Sheepdog, 1395388105

Sid fishious..... I know flex... surfed with him heaps... He's a midget ball of muscle... ;) No, not leverage, but that's another good area......
Owen and birdman are tall and lanky, a bit like rors by the sound of it... Leverage helps that body type...

I was talking more of the Kong/ Simon Anderson sorta build. Spart ( photo at ulu), and myself, are more in that mould, though I'll never say my surfing EVER came close...... Sparts did though...
If you are still out there, rors, it really is quite hard to explain.. Spart explained it in the water, so I actually saw what he meant....
It's about "weightlessness"....... You watch, I'll go on another 500word confucius rant...

"If you think light, you'll be light"....
Big surfers are powerful surfers... But for power you need speed..... Speed is the key.... No dramas when it's 6 foot..... But 2 foot? hey.....
So.... How does a big guy get speed enough for powerful moves on a two foot wave? This is where my " If you think light, you'll be light" comment comes in..... ( honestly this is really hard to explain).
In small waves, those little fat gutless sections are where big guys bog. You see the featherweights and grommets have no problem... Often the big guy will do a carve , bog, then the huntington hop...
Do the opposite of what you think... If you have a bit of speed coming into a fat section, don't throw a carve and hop hop hop.... Keep the speed up and when you get to the fat section, think light and "almost" jump up taking all the weight off your board. Ummm.... Not like jump up onto tippy toes.... but just "think light" for a split second ...... Do it on the top of the wave when you still have maximum speed.... By taking 14 odd stone of weight off your board for that millisecond, whilst you still have speed, you will keep your momentum, and then as the pissy little wave sucks out more on the shorey, you'll be able to utilize the speed you haven't lost..... Wham! Closeout reo!! Does that make any sense to you?
Same deal on the take off.... A little grommet can drop down and rake out a bottom turn on a 2 foot wave, keep his speed and bam.....
A big guy should not bother with a bottom turn in little waves straight away.... Think light...... Take off on an angle, do a little adjustment turn 1/2 way down ( shouldnt be too much of a turn cos you've already taken off on an angle), as your doing your top turn readjustment to fly down the line, think light.... then gun it.... From take off to this moment is only about 1/2 a second.... It's very subtle....
I hope this makes some sense, cos it really is alot easier to explain in the water........
Cheers.....

Speakin' of which, and directed at you Overthefalls, who's this Tarzan you mention? Was he also known as DJ Graylands? Actually getting back to underground ledges, had a beer with Dougall at the hotel last night.
In Margs, he defo ticks the bar-fly charger/me? I'm just a garbage-man box. Looking kinda healthy too.

Shatner'sBassoon, 1395389137

Fucken Bonython. Another rich-kid leech, leaching the liquid nutrients out of surfing's very essence for his own vainglorious gain. At least his old man did some worthy shit for this country's wider culture.
On a positive note, I see Boordo gets a guernsey from none other than Camel. I concur. & from SA, surely the Ellis brothers are worthy shout-outs?

Hmm haven't seen Maurie for a while. I don't even know if he is is still around NN but you did need a steely constitution to survive NN in the early seventies!

banksia, 1395933142

Growing up & living in W.A most my life, I'm not familiar with a lot of the East Coast names mentioned. So my take on the subject comes solely from the West Coast.
I grew up on possibly the worst 2km stretch of Metro coastline Perth has to offer. Even still, come swell and out came a few notable rippers. From my local there was Richard Kelly(an unbelievablely powerful, top to bottom natural footer) , Jason Butler a.k.a Quokka...same as R.K..but a goofy. An older guy named Doug Bremner who was just so fluid to watch...and never held back! Mark Morrison (Quokkas protégé) haven't seen him for ages, but is one of those guys that can go without getting wet for long periods of time and still tear the bag out of it and a few others whose names escape me now. This piss-weak beach also produced the likes of Paul & Jake Paterson.
Growing up here meant lots of trips Down South. In those days (early 80's), you really had to be geared up to venture to the likes of The Bluff and beyond. The brothers Richardson (Dane & Scotty) both were impressive. I say were, as I haven't been down there enough lately to know if they're still around..let alone surfing.
Then there was my school which had it's fair share as well. These names might ring a bell. Damon Eastaugh, Mitch Thorsen, Stu Bedford-Brown, Paul & Steve Mc Comish....oh yeah...and caml.

brutus, 1395961778

Kyle Manchester in any left barrel in WA......

wellymon, 1395966000

Banksia a good mate of mine in Perth at the mo, Sean Carass used to shape for Rusty awhile ago,
He's good mates with RK and still reckons he shreds the arse out of the wave, RK has a good ding repair going on over there at the mo :)

banksia, 1396060566

Well, well, well wellymon!. I used to share house with Sean in the late 90's. Small world eh?
Good guy and a good surfer too! Downed a few DB's with him that's for sure. One of the nicest Kiwi's I've met. I heard RK was doin' alright in his business...good to hear!

wellymon, 1396069755

Classic stuff Banksia,
Small world there brother
Sean took me for my first surf at the age of 12 at Lyall bay, Wellington, we grew up at Plimmerton school together, ended up going to college together at Rongotai, he surfed like a mad arse and I played Rugby and cricket, hahaaha
Best of friends Banskia...! He has a heart of gold for sure.
I'm staying at his house this Sunday for a week, have to do Breathing Apparatus, Confined Space Rescue and Heli trianing updates , Love hanging with Sean, good cunt for sure, real good mate from the age of 5...
Good shaper too. Shaped some good boards for everyone including pro's......
Hey I will say your name ,will he Know Banksia.....?

shaun, 1396081082

Banksia, it's only water under the bridge when you have made an effort to make things right.

banksia, 1396081406

He'll know me as Dexy. Haven't talked to him in ages. We had abit of a falling out all those years ago...I was going through a pretty tough time in my life back then and let's just say I let him down. 15 years later I've got my shit together, got married and have a 3 year old son. Life for me has taken a full turn around.
By all means say G'day! I'd like to think it is water under the bridge by now...be good to catch up with him some day for a bevvy...or better still a wave. Cheers

banksia, 1396081543

Fair call Shaun...I would've liked to PM..but I don't think that options on the site.

wellymon, 1396083288

All good Dexy,
He will understand bro,
Like Shaunio said Water under the bridge, the tide and water moves so often...

shaun, 1396083514

What happened to the pm's, I sure miss being quietly being told I'm a dildo

shaun, 1396083553

Way more personal

shaun, 1396083844

So what did you do Banksia? Tell us , we won't tell any one else, it will help you to heal.

banksia, 1396088479

Like I'm going to air my dirty laundry here Shaun!. For a minute there I thought YOU were the Sean in question...lucky I wasn't able to PM. Only now did I realise the spelling of your name.
P.S Cheers wellymon

shaun, 1396089644

Only now? You spelt with a h in your first reply.

shaun, 1396089963
What happened to the pm's, I sure miss being quietly being told I'm a dildo
Mind you, I was getting sick of southy stalking me and Morris via the pm's
What happened to the pm's, I sure miss being quietly being told I'm a dildo
Classic .

I miss Morris :)

Personal thing's should stay personal,

Will say hello from Dexy (Banskia) No worries champ.

Mr Carass has big shoulders, don't worry, he know nothing....

wellymon, 1396091708

Don't worry about Southy Shaun,

vertical wind drafts and Elnino will sort him out after the WOTD, which corresponds with the full moon, after the waxing....?

southey, 1396101519

well played sir ... well played ....
careful , you don't read too often from the " book of Lift " ...

Shaun , your just upset i got between you and Morris .... so to speak . either that or 'cause i insist that morris is more likable .

morris, 1396126465

And better looking.

wellymon, 1396129559

Morris, maybe so but the wife beater singlet, the beer in hand, Tatts and the hair is more appealing to some....
Kind of beats the look of hanging out with OC in the Melbourne latte club all day.

shaun, 1396132535

Southy you over stepped the mark when you wanted to meet in the public toilet block in the park at port Albert

trippergreenfeet, 1396134159
Morris, maybe so but the wife beater singlet, the beer in hand, Tatts and the hair is more appealing to some....
I much prefer Eddie's new look, err, I mean Shauns...you got it all going on.

Morris looks like a real squid in that suit and tie.

morris, 1396138943

Calm down Tripper, as I had to tell southy a while ago when we could do pm's "This is not a dating site". But if you lust, I mean must contact shaun privately just google "Neanderthal twit" and follow the prompts .

southey, 1396139191

thanks TGF ,

i only just realised it was Ed's head ....

and welly , in general I'm refering to when Morris was the " head " in his two piece ensemble with Shaun .
Port Albert .... ? i don't know what your talking about Shaun .... I only ever drink at the Family Hotel in Tarraville .

trippergreenfeet, 1396140372

Oh, I'm calm, almost asleep actually, Eddie has that effect on me, ..I tried to find a contact but all I get is geeky technobable from Neanderthal twit. Wow, a real rough diamond is Ed, a tattooed, wife basher wearing geek...what a catch.

You on the other hand Morris, a trip to Roger David might sort you out...get you looking the goods. You too may then find your rightful spot as an underground legend, yee fuckin haa.

morris, 1396141175

I'll stick with Fletcher Jones thank you, quite fashionable down this way.

I'm a legend to some, but really just underground.

Stupid, 1396672030

Should get Chap to commentate the ASP circuit.

saltman, 1397126274
Honorable mentions to Darren "flex" Landers, Marty Simpson, and Scotty Mitchell...... Was a plaeasure watching you blokes......
Wow theres quite a few names that bring back memories of a misspent youth
Remember often seeing Flex working in the coolum bottlo drive through back around 1990 or so when I was living there -- always a friendly guy and great surfer
Knew Marty Simpson when he was growing up at Bungan on northern beaches of sydney was freakishly good surfer in his teens . (probably helped living next door to Nat Young as a kid)

Some one mentioned Darren (grape) Earle , Top guy, I went to his wedding to a Japanese girl in Brisbane about 25 years ago - last i heard he wasnt surfing much was doing the Hotel management thing through Asia though may be back by now

Other underground surfers - Sloth and Bucket

wellymon, 1397888312

ASP, what a fucking piece of shit, if that is you....! Shame on that crap mate.
Peanut.

Blowin, 1397889337

ASP you certainly put that impressive little vignette on the right thread.

There is not a surfer alive that doesn't have their style rendered Donkey Kongesque with that particular camera angle. Keep on shooting ASP, morning looked nice.

sir ambrose beachfucker, 1402042023

Mark Virgo "mr cactus"

winkie, 1402093867

Yeah Virgs would be a notable mention, what about Reevso ?

caml, 1402176126

Reevso is underground but in kelly slater league . Peter pan never getting old

groundswell, 1402194441

Terapai Richmond, mellow friendliest good surfer i know. Charges.
Matt Percy was cronulla semi pro island bodyboarder now rides all sorts, likes to travel to south america but lives on percy street gracetown. Hehe.
Scott yealland, and his dad. Both good surfers and good guys.

uplift, 1402202874

Virgo, Reevso, might as well throw in the Johinke brothers. Vince, or bones will fill you in on them.

uplift, 1402204583

Whilst there's no doubting old dogs in the water performance, for instance he single handedly saved the roadies and SA's rep in SW WA in that better forgotten Aussie titles. The only thing of concern is the shot of the hair, which raises a few issues.

It can easily be seen that it is a poor copy of the Southern Plains legends, Georgeopolous, Parslow and Giles. Who in turn copied Fricker and the now in hiding Hugh Bailey. What seemed a dying art form was perfected and reinstalled to hero status by the two robbies, Robbie Lodge and Robbie May, who's flowing locks reeked havoc at the Shandon and Old Vic.

sir ambrose beachfucker, 1402214316

southern plains and the surnames- now that takes me back- back to when heroin started to appear on the coast and then destroy the lives of some s.a finest surfers and families

Blowin, 1402219637

Eddie Blackwell . Got his first sponsor at 36 years old . I've seen him outsurf Dingo Morrison at perfect Desert Point and the Oz champ of the day ( who was a local ) at 8' plus Voodoo, cover of Tracks amongst others . Feral child of Bulga.

udo, 1402220577

Holy fuck just saw the pics of Eddie THE PREDATOR at 12ft deserts

'southern plains and the surnames- now that takes me back- back to when heroin started to appear on the coast and then destroy the lives of some s.a finest surfers and families'

Yeh, although the surfers in question themselves may have had a small hand in it. Still, it spawned a freeway to God halleluja bretheren... a movement so to speak.

caml, 1402236285

Udo can i see eddie too at issuu.com? Yeah he charges what a hellman

caml, 1402239326
straight up Craig Walgers radical , beautiful to watch .
Hello hippys, I am wondering if the Craig Walgers you mention is my uncle. Can you give me any more information as I would be interested to find out if it is him. I never met him and he has passed away.

stunet, 1408060333

@Abs,

Without speaking for Hippys I'd be almost positive he is referring to him. Only one fella of note named Craig Walgers in surfdom that I'm aware of. Standout QLD junior of the early to mid-80s. Contemporary to Kong, in fact Craig was his Gold Coast connection and Kong lived with him when he first moved down from the Sunny Coast.

stunet, 1440138475
One of the "younger" blokes in Coolum (shit, he'd be mid 30s at least now) who can still "knock the top off it" is a bloke named Chris Kendall. Top bloke too. Had some funny times round at Fergos place. FERGO!!!!!!!! Chris never went hardcore on the comp scene. But he still dominates at the local boardriders. He's just happy being the family man, running the coolum surf school..... Makin' a buck outa the thing he loves....
Surfed Cloudbreak with Chris the other day SD. Nice fella, lovely style.

Sheepdog, 1440145871

Smooth, aye Stunet..... Pretty mean pool player, too.....

Blowin, 1440148402

What was Cloudbreak like Stu ?

Crowded ?

stunet, 1440149461
What was Cloudbreak like Stu ? Crowded ?
Fucken unreal. For some reason our boat driver didn't want to leave till 7:30 in the morning so we got out there a fair while after sun up. At the time I didn't mind too much, with it being a new swell I figured there'd be an armada of boats in the channel, but rocked up and there was just one boat and a lone goofyfoot in the line up getting shacked senseless.

Reckon I broke all records getting my fins in that morning. Surfed for a while with just a handful of us, the crowd slowly increasing, topping out around 20-25 guys. Wasnt a hassle though, only a few fellas were going the sets.

So yeah, it was pretty damn good and it wasn't too crowded.

Blowin, 1440153624

Sounds good.

That's the life.

Apologies for reviving a long dead thread but I picked up two boards the other day, both 7’ ish tube shooters… one is a T n C Robert Fenech and the other is a dimensionless and totally blank Les Norrish. Both of their names appear in the early pages of this thread. Will restore and ride at the appropriate locations, hope to have them ready for next season.

Unreal cylinders, Les was a great bloke, took me up to gnaraloo from the bluff back in 82 . I had no car and as a 20 yo was the youngest in camp . He use to run down feral goats with his dog and cook em up , delicious . R.I.P . Les Norrish

Sick, this is exactly the type of response I was hoping to see. Was up there for the August run of west swells this year, it was a bodysurfing focused trip which went well but next year I'll get a bomb on the Norrish for sure.

Mal Caithness1, 1727092381

Two absolute pearlers in the lifestyle, albeit from different spheres of influence. Norro & Gyppo, in my personal observations were the ultimate style/core lords waaay before that was even a thing. So fvcking WORTHY!
Both these guy's should be automatically included in legend status when scoping the grass roots DNA of underground real deals.Fact.
Could elaborate on personal experiences however it would be so remiss of me, I was but a pissant in their Oddysey's.
Happy to have shared a line up with em both. Wish I still could ...
