Sorry Sheepy ....
As you are probably well aware of , in celluloid days when you travelled alone , very rarely were images taken by others and shared .... in the modern era though how easy is to exchange emails or better still download straight off theri camera to you laptop .. who travels with laptops though . ?

there are a few ( kodak disposable ) shots somewhere ..... i'll have a look .
Justin Bauer ran a shot of me around 2004 ?? in ASL ?? , and more recently in 2010 Judy Scanlon unknowingly posted a photo of me on CW ....
let me scan one tonight ..... one of my old avatar images was me .

Sheepdog, 1401070386

Here's some photo's , southy........ BTW, mate, I fully understand...... I, too was/am a "solo surfer"..... Often, when Noosa was cranking, I'd rather paddle out at sketchy sideshore 2nd bay coolum by myself, or with one or two mates who didn't mind duckdiving..... Yeah, you'd cop some punishment, but get more waves and less hassle than Noosa.... A camera was never thought of..... Most of my surfing photos were taken by my better 1/2.... So generally she'd only come down the beach when the weather was "nice" (she doesn't surf)..... That's why most of my surfing photos are in small to average waves...... When it's big in Qld, it's usually cyclone season, with rain squalls...... I do have some photo's of me surfing 6foot+ beachies in winter, but I'm just a speck in the ocean ( taken with std camera no lens)... Pointless uploading them...
So I do regret not having any shots at big granite/tee tree/ Burleigh.... But hey, was I meant to do a "puberty blues" at the missus, and demand she stand in the rain under a pandanus? (Get me a chiko roll!!! ;) )
Anyway, found another disc with some more photos of those 2 sessions..... first one is another kong impersonation lol, but goofy...... 2nd is full sequence of that carve at the wall.. By memory, didn't go the whack off the whitewater cos next section was starting to wall up fast, so just pivoted and ran down the line for a fast floater on the closeout......
Still riding hard boots welly? How do you up load photos?
"96" was when I threw them in the bin and never looked back, was over the 45 degree plus knock kneed stance dragging the knuckles over hard pack, with all the other knuckle draggers.
I totally rebelled against all my so called hard booter mates at the "Hardbooters" party at barrows pub in Wanaka not long after, got thrown out with my shaved head and eye liner pencilled around my head saying "HARD BOOTERS SUCK COCK" was pretty loose, haha memories ;)

Sheepdog, 1401075471

Well, yorko..... Might be heading over your way next year... ;)

yorkessurfer, 1401076666

Seek and ye shall find Sheepy! Mind you that luscious green spread you have in Tassie looks in stark contrast to the environment down here. More like scrub and dust and limestone rock filled paddocks with cliffs falling to a shimmering blue sea. Great if you like surfing and fishing but;)
The view from my front yard in the morning......

Sheepdog, 1401078529

Was there in 91.... Spent a bit of time in Adelaide.... Stayed at Ardrossen c/van park and had a look around... Went to that cornish festival, drove down to innes, had a paddle and shat myself lol.... Nice spot... Variety, yorko..... A gypsy nomads pleasure.... Been here 5 years now... I think this winter will do me in..... Looking at your area, and another part of S.A where the postman always goes right ;)

yorkessurfer, 1401081578

It's changed quite a bit down here since '91. Sealed roads and more coastal infrastructure like carparks and steps/stairs down the cliffs. Pretty user friendly these days.
More crowds when it's pumping thanks to the internet but so many 3 to 4ft days with no-one around still. It's a nice place to grow old if you can handle the harsh environment and isolation Sheepy! The S.E coastline of South Oz is nice too but still pretty fucken cold in my opinion. At least you can have a garden down there though!

Craig, 1401084511

Limited options down that way Sheepy, especially when it's big and offshore, and then the summer is relentless with strong S-SE sea breezes. YP would be the pick I reckon.

Sheepdog, 1401086228

Thanks, Yorko, Craig.... Yorko (and craig), I assume all properties around the "top of the foot" ( yeah, corny right... Don't pine,,, they're the only clues I'll give lol) would be on tank water? Sewage? So a small vege patch is a no go?.... I could set up a grey water system couldn't I? Howzabout internet up there?

Craig, I thought summer down "that way" would have northerlies like Melbourne/adelaide????? What about that stretch where the "pelicans" live, or that port near the beach? Or even that long garment worn for ceremony?

Craig, 1401086876

Nah northerlies only rock around about every week to week and a half and then between that it's strong south-east winds, strong upwelling and cold water. Same with Melbourne and Adelaide.

Options up near the garment under those conditions if there's swell, but only semi-average beachies.

Summer in SA consists of strong high pressure ridge after high pressure ridge and persistent S/SE winds, with troughs moving in from the west every week/week and a half breaking the monotony.

Sheepdog, 1401086936

Cheers, man

wellymon, 1401087255
I could set up a grey water system couldn't I?
Yeah but NOT on the leafy veggies Sheepio....!
You will end up with a pooh stance for sure :)

Sheepdog, 1401087455

Welly..... With grey water, not "brown water" lol??? I mean just dishwater, shower water...... Probably high in alkaline (soap), but it'd be ok wouldn't it?

wellymon, 1401088382

Most "Biocycles" are grey water (which is brown water as well :) ooops) brown meaning Pooh.
Using the right alkaline products for your dishes, cleaning products in the shower and washing machine does help. They run pretty clean, from going thru different baffled tanks, then thru chloride tablets, but we don't use them on our veggies, no no no....! banana, mango, avocado trees etc yes.
Wash the car, yes and give the dawg a drink...............

NO :)

yorkessurfer, 1401088637

It's all tank water and septic systems down this way Sheepy but if you have enough roof catchment and its not a drought year you can get away with a small garden.
There are areas along the coast where good aquifer's exist (Carribee Basin) and with a bore quite decent water can be extracted for growing gardens. Depends if you want to live in a town or on a small hobby farm. You will have to do your homework on that one.

There's also some good surfable options in SE winds which is one of the major drawcards for summer surfing down here. Hope that helps!

Sheepdog, 1401089671

Thanks heaps guys...... I suppose if I do move that way, I could set up a simple grey water system (poo excluded) for cacti, general garden (non food), and be smart with tommys, chillis etc in pots.... Probably put in a big garage (re' roof catchment) and extra rainwater tank..... But yeah, have to do homework.... Cheers....

mitchvg, 1401090227

Sheepy as you and Welly have noted above, I'm the man to talk to about brown water and pooh stances... but it seems you're pretty set on the temperate lats, so I can't really help you out unfortunately :P

Sheepdog, 1401090441

Funny, mitch... That wave actually looks bigger than my poo stance wave in tassie lol

mitchvg, 1401093454

Haha yeah imagine that, famous FNQ nudist/gay beach surf bigger than underground Tassie! Just checked Ratshit from the road and it didn't look that good, fairly shallow and sandy. There was actually a sup out on Buchan's bar and it looked ok, but this section of beachie and at Ellis were the chunkiest. On that point (suicides?) there were waves but... you know, kinda peaky. I kid you not the day that Ita crossed the coast I was up at Port Douglas and took off on some 4-5ft peaks, shouldering to 3 pretty quickly.

Okay, just tried to measure double overhead against the staircase. Realistically, 5 is a push. And since most surfers talk it down, probs 4. Anyway, enough to speed bump me off one take off!

wellymon, 1401093540

YS is on to it, (Carribee basin) etc.

Sheepio, Cacti....? Yeah I know the one haha :)
Make sure you boil it well. Doesn't matter if it's fed with pooh water aw well ;)

udo, 1401094962

mitchvg, what size foot you got there boy ? 13+

mitchvg, 1401095255

Udo, you are a grade a PEST! :P

mitchvg, 1401095585

Oh, I see. Well, it depends if you count my 2nd toe! haha, get some problems from the big toe nail trying to keep that 2nd toe lined up inside a rigid soled hiking boot.

mitchvg, 1401096301

Back on topic though, good for gripping the rail on a day like Sat morn on the FNNSW beachies. The closeouts were kind enough to at least let you in, so you fade hard from the take off! Don't really have any other good shots... let's see it Udo!

Sheepdog, 1401101197

Mitch.. Those south of the paddocks photos...... Man, you gotta go there this spring, when it's 2 - 3 foot..... Most fun little wedge ever...... Just remember to take off on an angle, not straight down the face... Forget the bottom turn...... Just "angle paddle" hard into the wedge and hook in ;)

blink23, 1401102494

I surfed Ratshits for about 6 years (when it was surfable) also during a cyclone i scored some of the best right handers i've ever surfed at a point break set up just around the corner from there with only two other guys out, only had it for about an hour until the tide fattened it out.

mitchvg, 1401104303

Sure will give it a crack Sheepdog, not sure if my mates are keen cos we really have heard a pretty heavy wrap about it, and there's so many closer spots. And even though there's usually complaints about crowds it doesn't often push us to venture to new territory. I'll try but.

Haha that's pretty lucky blink23, it's not easy to spot check around there.

Mid week off season, Mitch.... When the swell is small.... Sept/oct.... Go to that c/van park.... I've had some of the most fun small wave sessions there with fuck all people..... The rebound wave jacks up a 2 foot swell to a 3+ foot peak..... Like dbah, but no one there..... So a 2 foot tuesday morning, everyone goes to work/school, and you are left with fun little wedges that have the power of a 3 foot groundswell........ Sand bottom..... Rip next to the wall to get out the back easy...... sweet......

mitchvg, 1401106889

Cheers, good for typical spring winds too

wellymon, 1401153218

No Sheepio a dig at wellymon waving at his chick to quickly push the button.

Quite true what Southey says about getting surfing photos of yourself, in 30 years that was the only one ever, hahaha pretty funny and it was from a dumb blonde:)

Now days apparently you can set up a camera or video on the beach and wear a wrist band which signals the camera to take shots.....? Beyond belief.

A good mate was surfing Lefties down at Margs awhile back and some hipster looking young cool bearded thing was doing the exact thing, getting in the way and taking shots of himself surfing with his wrist band. My mate paddled over to him, told him to fuck off basically and said your an absolute nuisance, you can't surf and you're spoiling it for others.
Technology eh....!

Nice pics uppy! Love those old historical photos. Thanks for sharing.
I've surfed 'your' wave several times over the years. It's a great tube! I'm a natural footer and love getting backhand tubes at the bowling left 5 minutes from where i live. When I head over your way I'm usually chasing righthander's as there's not too many good rights where I live.
Got any pics of you getting tubed out there? It would have to be a big tube to fit a man of your stature!!!

zenagain, 1401161490

Agreed, shot number 2 is sweet Uppity. Nice colours on that bowling section.

Sheepdog, 1401161760

Southey... Did you make that barrel? The two biggest thrills in surfing are barrels, and big turns.... Taking off wide of the actual take off spot on a 7 1/2 foot board, and just standing there like a lead weight doesn't do it for me..... Neither does upright cutbcacks....... So cheers, southey.... kudos to you...
There are these boomers that used to paddle over to old Woman Island..... Rode these ridiculously long thick boards so they didn't have to take off over the shallow reef.... Always took off wide...... I knew one of them.... His surfing hadn't improved in 20 years..... But he thought he was good, taking off wide and standing there..... Throwing an uninspiring turn waaay out on the fat face..... That's all that counts really, as long as he was having fun....
But I never saw him out in big sketchy waves...... Always surfed waves that peeled off - noosa points, old woman reefs... So much easier.......

Good to see ya back looking at all my post dawgless. So full of it. Glad you love charging ya thin gutless slop (not you, the surf). How'd you go at blacks. Another, 'didn't aye'.

That's pretty much my photo collection squwyorky. And 99% were taken in the last few years. In the early days it was a full no no, filming people in the surf. Yeh, no doubt you ruled blacks, any shots? Like there's pretty much nothing that you haven't captured on film. Still can't remember looking inside though, and thinking, shit, squwyorkies going!

Funny in all the underground legend hullabullo no one mentioned Mark Archer. In that era there were no shots, yet he pretty much ruled the place for quite a while.

Balls, mate.... And the balls to admit me arsehole was twinging........ Old woman ledge.... google it..... Oh, that's right.... Take off on the shoulder.... Forgot...
BTW, seen better turns by an epileptic.....
Blacks just peels off..... Easy to get out with ya hair dry..... Just sit wide on a big mackn board and take off on the shoulder like photo one..... Can't be that hard.....
"Still can't remember looking inside though, and thinking, shit, squwyorkies going!"........ Yep.... out on the shoulder, looking where the real surfers take off.......... Checkmated yourself..... Soooo funny.... :p

The Rebel TV segment on Archer.

trippergreenfeet, 1401182836

Cool shots old dog...the rockpool shots bring back some memories, got washed onto those inside slabs on a big day, no fuckin fun at all.

wellymon, 1401183191

Air as well 'Old Dog' ....!
Nice work champ
The Blonde on the beach must have good on the camera ;)

southey, 1401185183

yorkes ....

Uplift is always argueing with everyone over the same topic .... " how good he is " and " how good blax is " .
the funny thing is everyone that responds is argueing how much they don't care how good he is or where ever spot is . he just doesn't get it .......
Uplift , blax maybe consistantly heavy . and yes its heavier than most waves at 1.5M .....
its just that i can think of atleast 6 waves that are heavier , better and hold bigger ... I've surfed 4 of them . And thats not even counting NSW .
Anyway . As i said before in response to Mitch . No i didn't make that wave , ( i did make that section ) , i did back door the peak , and often backdoored the right off it on my back hand ... but i don't care , i have better photo's , its just they aren't as nice a shots . ( overcast , raining , too far out to sea ) ...
But it doesn't matter this isn't a competition ........ And i'll never surf better than Agent Bourne , ' coz he's 1'1/2 inches taller and 10 kilo's heavier , etc , etc .....
The only thing i have going for me , is that i'd rather pull in deep and not make it than shoulder hop . And that doesn't change whatever size it is ...... Probably the same reason , i've had so many surfing injuries . I'd rather be a has been , than a " Never has been " ........

goofyfoot, 1401189169

No its not in VIC ...... ;-)

And i've got one for you Welly . once i can find it , might have one for uplift too in "the vault" ......
Nice wave Southey!

Sheepdog, 1401189791

Old dog.... Nice man... Nice indeed.....Southey Yeah, respect man... I'd rather watch you pull in deep and not come out than watch stairdodger take off on the shoulder in his mein kampf stance, then going waaay out on the fat where a surfboat should be, just to do a doe see doe your partner turn.....

I think stairdodger secretly admires me..... To troll back through countless pages of forums just to dig up a sheepdog quote is both flattering, and a bit "stalk scary at the same time lol.....
Nahhh, don't need ya, stairdodger.... Been happily "yappin' " away for weeks without ya'... hehehe....
But you've been craving the dog..... You've missed it......
How big is that shoulder hopping mal with the pointy nose, stairdodger? 7'4? 7'6? Hilarious....

"Thats what all the kooks, chickens, and suckers do, that get pile driven, you geek."

Well....... Photo 1....... Nowhere near the takeoff ... Kook, yep.... Chicken? Yep...... Sucker? Yep.... I can see your trail in the lip.... The whole world can see it...... Paddle in on a surfski "shortboard", nice and easy - and can't even take off on the peak...... A real surfer like yorko or southey would've already been barreled...... And like you said, you'd be looking from the shoulder..... Seen blokes like you at the island..... A legend in their own lunchtime...... I'm waaaaay more impressed by old dogs 4th photo.... Style.... Speed.... Class......
Now put some fuckn rail in the water, and stop shoulder hopping, wasting quality waves that real surfers could get barreled on!!!
(ps You love it - you missed it )

uplift, 1401189876

Broke back chicken soufle', you admitted you shit yourself at blacks, yet suddenly you charge much heavier spots. Have you noticed that 'everyone', is a merely a handfull of you nutters, that comment on every thing going. Like when you became a fitness expert, and basketball star. You had your chance at blacks and ran, simple. Get over it. But, you can't, you just can't, you try and try, like sheepsheet to resist, but you just can't. It will follow you to the grave... here lies brokeback... shit himself at blacks, but hey...

Your doomed pull in deep is a doomed, hunched up, out of control line, destined to failure. In that doomed position, helplessly heading for the sky, you went for the but I pulled in desperation. 'Made the section aye, I did, farkin foamball dun me up. Bullshit.

Sheepshit, bullshit. You are bullshit, and made that clear when you ran off blubbering, vowing never to return. Depite all ya SA savvy, you too dodged blacks. Yet, stiil, you call it. Fuck'n caller. Call that fucker! Go 'sheet!

Sheepdog, 1401189906

southey, 1401190742

see Goofy , ... You haven't seen all my tricks !??!
Upshit .... One image of you actually inside a Tube of some description would save you face ....
But not one anywhere .......... would be even more impressive if you had one on your backhand . Handsfree ? But it doesn't exist . I took photo of each of the days ( stopped for lunch passing through ) that i've been past blax .... and they make your shots look good ....
anyway ..... " IS THERE NOT ONE " ( image of you within arms length of a Barrel , let alone deep . )
yeah thought not . ya gronk .

uplift, 1401190907

Don't make it any worse for yourself bronzed gimp, if thats possible, try to salvage a sceric of dignity.

goofyfoot, 1401191128

Haha I don't think I've seen any Southey!
Love the old picks of Blacks uppy. Must of been pretty wild times out in the desert then

mitchvg, 1401191756

Just googled "soufle'", looks epic

stray-gator_2, 1401191905

And super-, ultra-, hyper- critical surfin, mate, Mick, Bluey, cobber. I mean, miss that shoulder turn and you could break a line of stitching in that beavertail wettie trying to get back within 12 to 15 feet of the pocket.

uplift, 1401191979

It was goofy, but Archer, Mick and a hand full of guys were there early, surfing and surviving. And the farmers and town hated them. They were the genuine wild, hard times. Pretty wild. Hooter. JB. A couple of classic names. There was a gang of them. Remembering its the super isolated desert, even Penong is at least on the highway, and has Ceduna. In one way it was safer, less worry though. I was talking with a long time shark fisherman today, and he was commenting on how he saw 7 big pointers in 20 years, yet, in the last few he's seen tons. Just last week three burgers, all around town.

goofyfoot, 1401192370

That's pretty heavy shit, but it goes to show there not interested in eating humans. If they were, with the numbers as high as it is at the moment, people would be getting chomped weekly.
But this ain't a shark thread, let's not turn it into one..

Blowin, 1401193061

I'm loving all the photos , everyone's got their own take on things. Something about the old film shots really gets me. Great work legends.

trippergreenfeet, 1401194304

I posted this one in the other bloggers waves thread but it belongs here too.

When I was 23 I developed a death wish after a bout of double pneumonia and drowning in my own fluid resulting in a heart stoppage. Came back from that so went mad for a while, this was the culmination of that madness.
NICE .... So flawless it doesn't look real ?

It's a trip eh...I'd surfed this joint twice previous this size but never this clean...this day was just magic, actually quite easy to surf cause the wind was dead calm and the water was just flawless. This one fucking ate me alive but I got a couple that let me out. The board was 10'8 x 20 x 3 3/4 Sunova, painted black and blue, kinda fitted my mood of the time.

12 months later my first daughter came along and I lost that death wish so never felt the need to kill myself in big surf again. It's a weird thing that kind of wild abandon, to have absolutely no care if you die or not, not safe but looking back I had fun trying.

mitchvg, 1401228844

Almost a winner...it's actually me surfing vicariously through a NQD "Lisa" radio control surfer (Lisa Anderson model). The pic is a screenshot from this video.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dbEjbsk_vBY

I can't believe nobody questioned it in the other thread so in my desert delirium for a piss take I thought I give it a run here. Southey was onto it, but Blowin got it. The lip and glassy face really give it away, just can't replicate big wave conditions from 2' waves and a 12" doll.

The part about me being 23 and my heart stopping from pneumonia and ending up with a death wish is true, kinda made me bat shit crazy for a while. Probably what's wrong with me now;)

trippergreenfeet, 1401230796

The footage was shot on the same ledge as the vid I posted of me surfing the HB Eve single.
Also credit to my neighbors 8yr old son for manning the camera, not bad for his first time behind the lens.
Pretty funny TGF.... But I'm still getting over southeys snow shot.... classic.. Style personified :P
Southey's snow shot is the bomb...those nipples are outrageous, and those cut off denim jeans, mmmmmm...but that hair is what really sets the whole affair off, is the hair real Southey? That's what I wanna know, like my faux wave, it's just too good to be true.

Mrsuplift, 1401232412

Uppity is just trying to share. There is room for one person in the barrell behind him, one person doing vertical reos, one person doing out on the face cutties and then the big chump himself way way way out on the flat shoulder with that dumber than a Neanderthal look.
That's four guys per wave and as crowds increase we will see more of this. Groundbreaking stuff big fella!

Fuck ,

I go offline for 12 hours and it all goes paired shaped .....

To quote the Simpsons " No padding there , It's 100 % Pure South' "
( Adam West , Simpsons Episode # 2123314???? ) .
TGF , there was a time a few years back where the locks could of been real . But the mo' , the Tits , and self sacrifice in the name of Comedy is all Pure . It was all a piss take , in the name of myself wanting to Take " Alby Mangels " a character i often emulate to the Snow .
Trust me the photos get better / (worse ; depends on ya outlook ) . But falling short of turning this into a " Snow thread " , i feel obliged to refrain .
Lets just say the lifty's ( Not you Fukwit ) , [ the guys and girls that operate the chairlifts for teh season ] are still suffering after accidently copping an eye full of " Alby " choc a bloc up Belinda Green on the summit super lift ......
PS . the neck warmer was used to keep ones nuts warm . As there is no place to hide in those " cut off " jeans shorts .

zenagain, 1401250158

I love it Southy. All my little yellow hipster friends here think they're cool wearing their tiger or panda onesies on the hill. Bit passe now if you ask me.

I want to up the ante next season and bust one of those Alby Mangel costumes out. To quote a good mate of ours- 'it would be deluxe hilarious'.

Where can I get one?

(Also, i could save it for after dark for one of those special times with my lady- she can put on her old school uniform, spank me with a cane and call me a poodle.)

trippergreenfeet, 1401250837

Alby Mangels eh, now there's a character to emulate...gold.

Alby choc up Belinda, the real deal or another clown in character...life, grow a sense of humour and be in it.

southey, 1401250896

Not much to the costume .
Grow a Blonde Moustache , chuck on a ( Adam & Eve Nude suit ) skin coloured lycra suit available to buy only at all good dress up shops , cut some jeans down . Grow your hair long prior or bust out a borrowed wig . Make sure ya leather sided aviator sunnies have a strap , ( or ya end up with having to go to the backup option in above photo , [ servo sunnies of the worst description ] . Find a willing buxom wench to follow ya round in the same outfit , but with a white t- shirt that turns see through when wet . [ sans bra ] ......." Alby's " ya Uncle .....
Be careful to not rock this out in Europe though , for danger of been recognised as any German backpacker or a weird bloke that goes by the name " Lars " .

If you haven't drank a litre or so of Jager Meister prior , you may want to wear light colour thermals underneath skin suit . Or just don't fall .... Simple really .

southey, 1401251197

TGF ,
I'm not into dudes . And what happened pre wife . Stays pre wife ! ;-)

Yep, definitely winging the bullshit there, haha…I’ve never seen that myself.
More to the point , was devastated that their " might " have been a wave

Well, (this is no bullshit) there is a wave (right) I’ve seen break in the 18-20’ range, clean but less wall way west of Penong with an identical wave that breaks about 5’ smaller on same swell separated by a narrow channel…but, and this is the big but, you’d have to have the balls of Captain Goodvibes to surf it cause both break way too close to the base of a 300’ cliff. One fuck up and it’d be a sure ride to hell.
We'll played Sir. .,.... ( I didn't wanna call ya out as fake , as I've made that mistake

Coolio man, I could read between the lines of ya post you were not convinced; I played as long as I could. One thing is for sure around here, we look at waves far too much to be fooled for long, if at all.

ah mitch, did you surf ratshit north of wangetti? I had rocky point south of wangetti 5-6 foot and perfect one cyclone. Then perfect peaks at Hartleys creekmouth until i had to leave the water when a 12 foot "log" suddenly developed eyes and a tail. Getting spooked by a shark is eerie, but by a croc is fucking bowel blowing!

trippergreenfeet, 1409968160
Getting spooked by a shark is eerie, but by a croc is fucking bowel blowing!
Scored a couple of cyclone swells when living in Townsville, some unexpectedly nice waves to be had, namely Saunders Beach and Haughton River.
On the croc front, I scored nice waves at the Cape Cleveland spit (Haughton) but the just the thought of crocs had me shitting bricks... I had been worded up by locals that I was fucking mad going out there due to a couple of crocs hanging about.

mitchvg, 1409974187

Yeah DTR I was up there over Easter, TC Ita crossed near Cooktown at or just downgraded from cat 5, on Fri night. I drove up from Cans and got the tides wrong I think (roads blocked too but young lads with croozer utes aren't easily stopped haha). Winds weren't tooooo bad out of the NE, and there was swell with 11sec period in the water. But yeah, just too much washing across banks at some places, and looking a bit fat on the points. Kept looking and the end of the tombolo turned out to be overhead with clean faces, but still pretty wobbly. I brought a pretty average board up, but one I really like (wafery 5'10 thruster ridden as a twinny due to busted fin plugs; hadn't been a surfer before I left Cairns). So, on paper, can't ask for much more... maybe my memories will grow more fond with time. I was kinda off myself for sticking to only trying to surf the biggest ones coming through, when I coulda had more, smaller waves...

Anyway, places like Hartley's or Haughton, FARK DAT!!!!!! I shudder at the thought. It reminds me of swimming at Holloways and walking through the foot of gelatious mud at the bottom, and all you can think of is, when is a croc gonna snap my ankle ahaha. At least points have clear water sometimes, and aren't within eyeshot of a river mouth! People say crocs used to be scared of humans too, cos they used to shoot them.

davetherave, 1409974970

don't miss that water mitch, never seen buchan bigger than your photo. Unfortunately with a lot of big wet seasons the last decade and a half, I noticed that inshore was way more silted up and shallower. The first times I surfer Ratshit it was actually deeper blueish water out back which allowed swell to stand up on surfing bank. Gradually I noticed worse conditions and decrease in size. Get out near Bat Reef mate, one reef with nice right on end wrapping offshore in sou easters.

davetherave, 1410064507

thanks sheepdog,
this is a good day for up there, but like i remember it mostly, more often than not, pretty average but at least it was surfable. You have to love the local crew's enthusiasm, shitty brown powerless slop some time, and flat most of the time. That's why the day at Rocky Point and Hartleys is so memorable.
Best memory of Ratshit Bay is a surf with the aid of a New Guinean Herb supplement, funnily enough with a St Kilda supporter nicknamed Sheepdog.
You didnt live at Yorkeys did u sheepy?

Sheepdog, 1410069997

I did, dave the rave... I did indeed.... And yes, I am a long suffering saints supporter.... I have posted these before - the cove wedge, yorkeys... From on top of the groyne..... A young teenage sheepy amazed at a rideable wave...

And the incredible perfection of Yorkeys beach lol..... I'm surprised my fin didn't dig into the mud hehehe...

davetherave, 1410080833

good one sheepy, the good old burford hey!
i'm surprised jimmy biscuit wasnt surfing the cove. seen a bloke called squirta have a dolphin jump right over the top of him at that place. Visited squirta when I went west and up to Kalbarri.
in tassie hey, talk about extremes mate. i'd love to check out a map of tassie at the moment.
im keen to do some exploring, when's best time for waves and weather where you are?
been 25 years since you visited me at uni in newy, in that time st kilda still hasnt won a flag- go the hawkies!
me living D'bah.

Sheepdog, 1410086307

You're joking!!!! Great to hear from you, Davo..... Remember you were riding that pig of a board, and we bumped into a French tourist camping at the cove... You bought a skip single fin swallow off him for 20 bucks!! Good board that one..... He showed us his photo album of Europe... 1981 (I think)... Photo's of a wicked left called Mundaca...... Classic..... I remember that freekn dolphin too!!! I had the same thing happen to me at North Coolum, surfing with a mate named Fraser..... I was actually surfing along... Freaked me right out....
Also remember you and me getting hassled by a small shark at Thomatis creek..... That photo above at the cove.... I think YOU took it lol...... Got a couple of old photos of you surfing somewhere.... Last I heard of you was when I phoned your big brother... geez back in the late 90s..... Don't think you were contactable....
Squirta's in W.A??? Still surfing?
You still surfing? Someone told me you had a fucked neck from a car accident or something....

I remember you and me camping in a caravan at Burleigh.... Your fins got ripped out at Burleigh cove, so I lent you that Burford..... I had that hot stuff 6' thruster..... Also remember you and me dominating the cove, dbah.... Good times man...

Not surfing much these days.... Had a run in with melanoma (surprised squirta the part albino is alive with the amount of sunburn he used to get)... Lucky to still be here bro.... Just getting my body back in shape now....

Anyway, this was me a few years ago ( lived in Coolum for nearly 2 decades)... Great to hear from you man.... I'll look you up on facebook :)

Thomatis Ck!? Was the shark a loan shark busting down the door? And you were living in that caravan in the mangroves, between trips out to sea?

Ahh forgot I posted about it already haha. Yeah mate those observations go along with others I've heard... and it's supposed to be that the up until 1980, we got more cyclones and the PDO was -ve. The PDO has been -ve since mid 2000s. Cheers for the tip, one day... It's pretty daunting thinking about it though. Haven't surfed live coral reef before.

davetherave, 1410090219

amazing that we re connect now hey, glad your still here too mate. Yeah, broke my neck in three places. Learnt alot of esoteric metaphysical teachings and quantum physics/mechanics/chemistry/biology and eventually got back surfing using sweep so i didnt have to paddle too much, but got pitched at cyclonic kirra doing no paddle take off on a wave i had to have. Semi paralysed for a while but got back to bodysurfing until got run over and blew discs out below neck fusion and tore tendon off elbow. So me out of water too, finished physio last week and about to commence training.
Squirta not surfing, professional home brewer when I saw him and fill in model for beach balls. He is happy though.
I been a long time Social and Enviromental activist and Not on Facebook mate as I have caught the attention of the authorities with my Wholistic Evolution manuscript and my releasing of a perpetual motion energy generator that we built but was destroyed because it worked- crop circles mandlebrot set shows plans and built using 64 magnets. In time this will be built and available, but not by me. Can be dangerous if used incorrectly. All my stuff got hacked and wiped. Conspiracy-what conspiracy!!!!!!
i did take cove photo and yeah shark gave you a nudge alright decided saints fans didnt taste too good maybe.
daveburdon@rocketmail.com
remember friends may tune in
me want to go to tassie, so i track you down
me a bit of an eaglehawk
stay well brother

yeah mitch, thomatis cr mouth had big sandbank, on kingtides it sometimes worked. i gave sheepy shit for falling off his board and then i saw fin and tail swirl next to him. long paddle back to shore.
that FNQ shoreline needs a heap of cyclones to clean it out as they have had heaps of runoff but no real wave action to shift the sediment. you mention the silt at Holloways which now exists on most of that coastline, but was only found at machans next to barron rivermouth when sheepy and i were up there.
as for the reef, obviously high tide and snorkel it first, or save up and go to PNG.

Sheepdog, 1410135622

Mitch.. Most swell up there I found usually came from large fetch's associated with massive winter highs ridging up the Qld coast.... 1030h+, usually over NSW, fetch extending over to New Cal.... Cyclone swell was an oddity..... Once the "Cooktown to Cardwell" report had "se winds 20 to 30K", You knew something would push over the reef... davo and I had it wired.... The small gap below Bat reef used to funnel a small amount of swell directly into yorkeys.... Holloways was flat, Trinity was flat, but for some reason yorkeys used to get ridable, which was handy cos' that's where we lived.... The cove at yorkeys actually had it's moments.... the photo above was a real fun day, quite punchy for NQ standards thanks to the wedge off the cliff face..... I remember that day there was a dead tiger shark, solid 8 foot, wedged in the groyne rocks... A bit off putting... Smelt rank too....
Now.... Davo...... Fuck man, the neck thing sounds heavy..... I'm sure if we had've had a vote via our peers back in 1981, on A - who was most likely to end up in jail, that would've been me..... B- Most likely to be an upstanding citizen - Squirta..... And C - most likely to die from a horrific accident, no doubt Davethe rave would've won it hands down ;)
1 - The dog bangs on raves' window - "surfs up"!!!! Rave staggers out 1/2 asleep, rides pushy to beach with dog, paddles out, takes off, nosedives, cops a fin to the top of his head, paddles back in, goes home back to bed....
2 - Surfs up.... Dog and squirta grab rave... the 3 amigos ride their tredlys to the beach...1/2 way there, raves legrope goes around his back wheel...... Boom crash!!!!! Smashed board.... blood... bark missing everywhere.... twisted bike..... Raves old man rocks up.... Old style..... Anyway, that's when you got the swallow tail skip...... silver lining bro....
3 - same deal - 3 amigos riding to 1/2 moon bay.... ( used to get perfect little waves there mitch)...... This time raves towel goes into his front wheel.... Boom crash !!!!!!
4 - Dog and rave are bored shitless... No surf for ages.... Dog owns a skateboard... "I know what we can do for a buzz" says dog...... "lets try riding down yorkeys knob hill on the skateboard!!!!!!" Dog descends and makes it..... JUST...... Rave then grabs the board..... He flys down the hill, negotiating the crazy corners..... The sound of a car in the distance spooks him on the very last section..... takes a wide line.... near a gravel patch............. Boom....... CRASH!!!!!!
Fuckn funny times mate...... I could write a book.. The time we went and saw "The Church" at the Bombay rock and someone spiked our drinks...... FUUUUCK..... How the fuck did we get back to Burleigh lol.....
Will drop you a line a bit later bro........ Found that photo.... Gotta sort printer out......

classic stuff, thanks mate
still got the scars from that fucking skateboard pitch- very wary of them now
yes i have had some floggings alright, you think i would have learnt.
i still visit family who now live at crystal cascades, and mate the place is too silted up to get the surf we had and half moon (whispering pines) is a fucking marina. remember them two old whores going the nude and wanting us too as well-classic stuff your white arse going over the dunes with grandma- embellishment maybe? maybe not.
it was 1988 when you visited me at newy
no idea how we got back to burleigh either, but that was pretty standard practice when you and I were on a mission, especially at farm past kuranda/mareeba where i wandered lost through the scrub for hours and you didnt even know i had gone- oils at kuranda ampitheatre that night.
so yes i am surprised i am still alive too, i think the gods have too much fun watching my fuck ups.
surfed and visited some great places though mate. tassie only place in oz me not go yet.
yeah email me, all good now but some things can only be talked about face to face.
some good banter here on swellnet, good crew with good humour and life stories to share
coolie now too busy in water all the time, whether jetski's, sups, mals or tourists/overseas students. but great waves, beautiful water and views, but hard to find peace and serenity in the water, thank god for good memories, hey brother- be happy bro's

Sheepdog, 1410149409

Just sent you email link, man.... The only other thing I could say publicly is; "I deny all allegations".... lol....

Yorkeys cove on what would be considered a great day.... 3 foot chocolate...... If you look closely, davo, you can see Jimmy Biscuit pulling into the end section closeout just in front of the rocks......

Credit where credit is due,
for a 56yo pulling into good size edits is a decent effort, and doesn't look like that top one is a shoulder hop

Sheepdog, 1410153463

Lol, davo..... Gave the partying away years ago mate..... In fact, I haven't drank piss since 02. (WHAAAAT???)... Same deal with new guinea imports.......... Got right into surfing, and I found all those substances just got in the way..... But something always gets ya in the long run.... The sun....... Bursitis....L5, meniscus.....
But I wouldn't change anything.....
Doing running repairs now..... The mighty "uplift" has given me some good goss' on the shoulder.... L5 - well... What can you do bar core strength..... Meniscus..... Probably arthroscope, but not at the top of the agenda......
Tassie is a young mans surf enviro..... Lots of effort, travel, cooooold...... Not many spots where you just pull up and check it from the car, unless you are up ne' coast..... Everything is a mission down here.... But when you do luck it, it's mindblowing..... May have posted these before.... 20 minutes from my house.....

SD
good to hear your now a fine young respectable citizen, Tony loves you (geezus that was low-sorry mate)
I am still a goose
good luck with your health issues. as you know i have had my share, and for me, bromelain (pineapple core) plus glucosomine with MSM helps, plus flood body with oxygen (chlorella, spirulina etc). Body will heal itself if helped- brainwave entrainment essential-google it. I use recordings to get brainwaves resonating in alpha as much as possible, but use Delta and Theta before bed or healing session to get best results for body to heal itself. In Delta and Theta, body can re align itself with the DNA coded frequencies of perfect health whilst in deep sleep/trancelike state. In three weeks you should be able to automatically bring forth these brainwave states. By using these techniques, plus intentionally imagining my desired outcome, in two weeks I transformed two prolapsed discs back to nearly normal shape and function, pins and needles went and doctors couldnt believe i didnt need an operation. This is not mind over matter, it is getting conscious mind relaxed so inherent self healing intelligence of the body can do its thing. Its a wonderful thing the human body.
