Hey all,
Anyone got advice regarding NPJ 2+1 widow maker? Pro's and con's of what conditions you like to ride? Size you ride, anything you would change?
Surfed most shapes of boards throughout my life but never been on a 2+1. Would like to change it up and keep fresh was thinking something around 7'0 and could mess around in all conditions.
If anyone has the time to throw more info and their experience about 2+1 in general I'm all ears!

Thanks.

That setup will be applicable in just about all conditions.
A 7’0 would be more of a midlength like a CI mid.
But NPJ fins have relatively bigger sides and smaller centre compared to a lot of widowmakers.
A smaller length ie 5’10-6’6 would be fine as a daily driver shorty I reckon.
Slightly smoother surfing thruster.

Cheers lostdoggy,
Have you git much experience surfing them? What conditions you like/dislike?

I like them most in decent waves that have a bit of wall.
But they are also good in the barrel.
They are an all round design so you can surf them in anything really.

I was basically going to say same things as @lostdoggy. I had a 6’4” a few years ago. Waves had to be about 4’ plus before it came to life.

Thanks for the info fellas very helpful.
Seems the majority agree they come to life in descent waves and that’s the preference to ride them.
Just got to work out exactly what I want before I go spending the cash but don’t think I can go wrong with one of his boards!

FR has a Parmenter widowmaker. Would be interesting hear his take.

Here's Neal's take on his 2+1 setup:

Yeah mine's a 7'3" kind of mid-length but more an Hawaiian style boarding terms of outline, foil and rails.

I have a ball on it in 2ft v-bank beachies, small points or 8ft windy ragged Point surf.

I’ll add a 2+1 gives you the added bonus of playing around with fins more so than a thruster. Change up the fins change your board.

I have a 7’6” CI mid and agree with what FR said about performance and fun.

Mine are glass-on fins, so this is the one board I have where I don't need to think about fins.
