Alright, time for some discussion on what yr all listening too. My iTunes inventory is getting a little stale so I'm up for some inspiration.

Currently loving The Drones' album "Havilah".. incredible songwriting and some of the best recorded guitars and drum I've heard in a long time. I'm a little late to the party with this album but it's on high rotation at the moment and will probably stay there a while. I've seen these guys live once (Fowlers, Adelaide) and fortunately they're incredible on stage too. Can't wait to see them again.

Also read that these folks are finally hanging up their wigs, after a short Vegas residency that is.

An old Mudhoney favourite of mine. I was a bit late to the Mudhoney train but bought the Piece of Cake album in 92ish i think. Pretty sure it came out same time as Nirvana's Nevermind. Flogged that Mudhoney album so hard. Memories of grommethood on the SA Sth Coast right there, and i remember it being summer school holidays too. This song a bit more cruisier but a goodun.

Ahh fuckit, there's a whole lot more to the song above that i might as well share. hehe. Sometime in the mid 90's i was on a little 'romantic' getaway to kangaroo island with a chick that was really no good for me (bless her cotton socks!). Anyway, we were in Vivonne Bay and had a huge argument. She proceeded to dump me on the side of the road with my blankets, bags, surfboards, and thankfully CD walkman (and collection). It was a 35degree plus day, and i had to find a way from Vivonne Bay back to the ferry, to try to hustle a ride back to the mainland. So i began walking with all my shit. A short time later a fish truck picked me up. Legend!! Even better he pulled a pipe out from behind his chair and said 'here....light up". R u kidding me?? Anyway, i was stoked. But then he had to drop me off at the turnoff to Kingscote. So i still had to find my way to the ferry from there, still another 20 or 30ks i think. Only thing was, it was now the middle of the day, stinking hot, i had ZERO water with me and i had the full desert mouth. I was tripping! I started walking. put on my headphones, and you guessed it, the first song that came on, the one above! After walking what felt like forever and in some kind of delusional state i remember collapsing next to a stagnant puddle, and just deciding to drink the water in it. It was shit. Indigestible. Anyway, i eventually got to the turn off to Penneshaw bay. Well i had my boards, it was hot, it was out of the way,...but i'm a surfer! So i walked the couple of ks in if i remember rightly and ended up surfing a fun little 3foot offshore beachie! But i was fucked!! So tired. The journey wasn't over. My walk resumed, getting towards sunset, back out on the highway, and i spotted a farmhouse! fuckit! I need water. I didn't care if i got shot, i was getting a drink. I walked up their long driveway, got to the house. Nobody seemed to be around so i started drinking like a madman from their rainwater tank. And of course, at the exact same time, the crew arrived home coming up their driveway. Thankfully, and typically of SA crew, they just wanted to help. So they gave me a lift to the ferry. I was stoked!! I remember they had a tiny car, with all my shit and board crammed in. So we got to the one and only ferry, and wouldn't you know it, we arrived, 30seconds too late. There's the ferry pulling away, with my ex on it!!! Argh! Anyway, spent the night sleeping on the beach, eating pizza out of the bin next to the restuarant there and eventually somehow conned my way onto the postal ferry that came at 3am that morning. Haven't been back to KI since, and everytime i hear that song, it takes me straight back to that hot, dry day on the side of the road on K.I. Yew!

Returned to this album over the last few days due to a few long highway miles. Opening reminds me of early Metallica, some of the latter riffs remind me of early Tumbleweed.

Gotta be in the right headspace to appreciate the intricacies of the playing and the production - 'tis a long song, and needs to be played at volume too.. some great variation in the guitar distortion.

Today's Good Weekend has a great story on Robert Forster ostensibly about his wife's cancer diagnosis but delving into the Go Betweens' long and winding history. Worth a read if you dig the band, or even the author, Lech Blaine.

Thanks Stu. Definitely one of Aust's most underrated / underappreciated bands. There's a fair bit in that article to digest. - Well written and researched too. (Was unaware of Lech Blaine until now). I've also got a bit of catching up to do....plenty of Go Betweens / Robert Forster stuff to explore.

Great piece by Lech Blaine, he nails it again and again.
"They were too sloppy to be pop stars, and too feminine to be testosterone-fuelled rock stars. Too Australian overseas, too cosmopolitan for the local market."
But that quirky sound, for me, defined what were bohemian pockets in inner-city Brisbane at the time.
Ramshackle Queenslanders and the shabby workers' cottages of West End and Auchenflower before gentrification moved in.

And if Steve Kilbey says 16 Lovers Lane is one of the greatest albums ever made, who are we to argue.
After all, songs like Clouds and I'm Allright sound like striped sunlight.

I'm assuming you're talking about Chilli Peppers Blackers? Not going to see them this time around - saw them at Mount Duneed in 2019. I'm generally not a fan of 'festival' style gigs or big stadiums - prefer pubs and smaller venues. Once is enough and I'm glad I got tick one off the bucket list. I've seen some of the hoo ha about the set list....but I think they've taken that on board and fixed it. Just waiting for RATM to reform....that would get me back to a stadium.

Ah yes I was, got snaked by the great Dave Graney. Agree about stadia, closest I've come to that is Nick Cave at the Opera House. Prefer a sweaty pub, band room or hall to be honest. Which limits the acts I see. Not sure ragtm will ever reform, I thought the bad blood ran too deep.

wishful thinkin...back in the day I did plenty of festivals, but they wear me out too much now. Can still muster a bit of drunken energy for a pub gig though - I like the atmosphere better too.

Lagwagon singer Joey Cape is touring Aus by himself or perhaps with a drummer too but as always is bypassing Perth.West oz gets the rough end of the stick sometimes when it comes to tours..But at least West Oz seems to have a very high population of quality musicians growing up here.

As for icandig and blackers on festivals, glad i can relate to that, big day outs did my head in and couldn't describe why, they always just did.Even on quality mdma etc just didnt like them, boiler room was alright i guess with Underworld, Fat boy slim, Dave Clarke, NOFX at one and a few others like Luke Slater..But always preferred clubs or warehouses, or even bush doofs...All time fave though is Greenwood hotel for the talent on tap , good music diff genre every day of the week..and friendly people, some dicks competing for the talent sometimes though but most of the time good vibes all around.
