Hey all,
Shaping a 6' 6" quad for bigger surf, but also want to be able to try it as a twin (board shape would be similar to a CI twin pin). Other people have said that the front finboxes are probably too far forward to properly surf as a twin and it got me thinking: why not add fin boxes between the front and back quad boxes? Has anyone tried this? Seems like then you could then surf as quad, twin and possibly even twinzer.

Thanks!

It was back when Muzz was reintroducing quads and trialling different fin clusters/shapes/sizes etc. He also was trialling a system of custom plugs where you could slide them forward and back a little. I can remember Brooko being on the receiving end of a few of these experiments :-)

Powerbase fin boxes I think.
He still uses them on a fair few twinzers and other quads.

I think MC has used them a bit too. Nick Caroll likes to bring the toe side fin of a symmetrical thruster fwd a touch from memory.

Yeh they were Powerbase boxes Muzz used

NC:
Currently I tend to offset fins on my boards just very slightly, I drop the backside rail fin a bit back from the frontside rail fin, it's only an eighth to a quarter of an inch but I find it makes a significant difference that seems to match the different types of pressure I put on each rail. I'm a fan of those Surfinz boxes 'cause they let you shift an FCS plug fin up and down the box in a range of half an inch or so if you want.
