Hey Negs, Mads here. Happy New Year, bud.
I reckon you're on the right track with a DS for solid K. They do have solid paddle power, so if you want to keep it more maneuverable I'd go close to 7'0. I'm in Rags now, and if you ever make it up here you're more than welcome to give my 6'10 a go (and my 8'6 too, should the swell come up, hehe).
For reference I'm 59 and get tons of use out of my 6'10.
Cheers

Happy NW to you too Mads!! Cheers for that, would love to try before I buy but will order one asap. Yikes 8'10" guessing you not using that much now with the shift? Freight to NZ will be a killer at a guess, might be a good excuse to go and pick it up.

Loving the 6’10” , even in 4ft surf it’s a good board , H4 quads loosen it up , really looking forward to some indo waves on this board.

@seaslug, 2 days ago I surfed kirra and before that dbar , caught a few overhead waves and noticed a really weird sound coming from the fins . This has only happened in a quad set up in the H4s but today got a few overhead at rainbow but no noise , have you ever experienced this ?

Have a close look at the trailing edges, Supa. Run a finger over them. It's usually a small imperfection of some kind that makes the fin hum. A light pass with some ~400 wet/dry paper should take care of it.

EA Quads are not recommended for the DS model, (it's been explained earlier in this thread before)
the front EA are ok (not the set) , combined with smaller rear fins . Not the EA quad rears with flat inner side, there is too much fin! that set of grey alkali fins recently pictured are of this template i speak of.
the DS board is already maximum volume, if you combine this with the biggest fins you will need a tug boat to turn it, the drag will be maximum too, so do the opposite and use the smallest fins you can, this is the way to get the best out of the DS model !

Nothing to stop you from sanding those rear fins back. They are solid glass.
There's already a partial foil on the inside.

I tried the stretch set first because thats what I'm used to.
The hex cores had a bit too much flex in that board for my liking.

groundswell your making it sound quite nefarious mate, what are you implying?
the truth about the mask i recall is that i wore a Lycra gimp mask surfing for a little while until i lost the mask rather fast, I didn't get hold of any more after that year. it was mostly at desert point , I cannot remember doing it at supersuck but it's possible, i did it at uluwatu ( I still have a photo)
I'm not trying to hide that . Australia govt have my video interview and I have my warning letter from immigration dept.
so i was an illegal migrant at the time with no visa or passport, the indo immigration dept were trying to find where I was hiding...
Lycra mask was helpful to stop the sun too, also a lot of fun , handy for drop ins! "drop in man"
We would say as we shared the mask around between some mates. taking turns to wear it, so the same mask wearing surfer would change from goofy footer to natural often . this was to make it confusing for the surfers who got off the boats etc too.
And another thing groundswell , I have been trying work out who you are for almost a decade , that's why, but I do really want know who ya are , I'm not being snobby it's but i do wonder if you surf the same as you write sort of thing. we have friends in common but your still completely unknown to me

yeah mate you can foil those rear fins nicely. they only have a flat inner foil though so you'll have to add that in yourself when foiling them.
a mate contacted me to say that in Indonesia he rides the EA quad and the rear fins work for him , perhaps the long down the line drive speed happens with big rears, I suggest the front EA quads need the leading edge rounded off as they are sharp. that sharp edge will slow down the water flowing past...

Ok cool camel, i had to look up nefarious in google but only meant you probably want to get back to g-land or deserts or supsrsuck one day and posting and asking you to talk about hiding from imigrasi on a internet forum might hinder your ambition to travel there.

Jaya said you lived in the farm trees nest to the cliff/beach corner of a rice farm in front of supersuck balas beach and when goin into town to buy rice or dried fish you would wear a mask so no one could dob you in to imigrasi as you overstayed.

I may as well say who i am since i havent really been stealth about my own posts even minor illegal activities, i grew up in east coast nulla reefs like nulla point shark island, voodoo suck rock merries and south coast nsw spots once older friends got cars and licences, then solo a lot too when i got my own car. Im matty vans to my nulla friends but dont think you will remember me or my name as we only chattted at speedies alone tegethor at sunset or night surfs sometimes in late 90's..then i got a car loan and coulnd't afford that as well as going to indo till i paid off loan in 2006 when you were no longer in indo.

You may know some of my aussie mates like Matt Dobell,Dave Scard, Joey Patterson, glowy or Paul Isles, Dr phill chapman, Gibbs brothers and many others...anyway Jaya an Hawaiian spent a lot of time with you in nusa tengarra spots and would love to talk to you again sometime.

Anyway hope you can get back to indo sometime, you are in legendary status among most surfers i know who spent at least a month there.

Haha thanks fellas, its ok things have turned out well lately, just have trouble surfing bigger waves since hitting 40 and put on heavier meds, now off most as always had troubles with meds besides one...Am far more capable still on a lid in many waves but just enjoy the pursuit of ninja to the feel and getting standup pits way more than bodyboarding but i guess bodyboarding is pretty fun too..Just not so many lid waves around here..One or two i guess but not like nsw.

Anyway back to desert storm talk,
still have a 6'6 43 litre new used 3 x undamaged desert storm available and many other boards..EA fins $100 new, Simon Anderson six channel 6'9 with simon new fins, thruster six channel $250..Other boards too.
