the preview txt says it all:
Louis Theroux explores three controversial corners of American entertainment and meets those accused of dangerous, toxic, and criminal behaviour.

Criminal behaviour. lol if the last two years have proven anything is that the biggest criminals in the world are faceless men in suits.

Can only speak of the first episode which I assume is the first of the mentioned three areas he’s exploring in this series and it’s not about the pandemic. It’s about white nationalism in America. Racism, misogyny and the desire of some to return to the dark ages and the grifters making a motsa from their followers

This is basically what the aforementioned Louis Theroux first episode is about and where it can lead I guess in a vacuum of like minded people and bias affirming algorithms

Has anyone mentioned "Atlanta", Donald Glover's current effort?
Brilliant look at being black in modern America.
Also throws in razor-sharp pisstakes of social media and consumerism, all without preaching.
The whole thing is done with a pretty rare level of intelligence and subtlety, and the camera work and editing are first class.

Yeah, even though it's a prequel, that's the way it was filmed - afterwards.

A few characters appear in both.

Though dark, 'Better Call Saul' has a humour not present in BB. Think I enjoyed it more cos of that.

I do not concur.

Breaking Bad has plenty of humour. From Pinkeman’s vocabulary to Walter’s irrepressible white Y fronts to Silent Pete and Badger’s ice head dialogues. Plenty of funny moments.

Hank Schroder was an adroitly talented comedic touch.

“ That woman’s got an ass like an onion…..makes me want to cry.”
“ Three days drive from the ocean and you’re eating raw fish….that’s all I’m saying.”

Whilst I’m a massive, massive fan of Better Call Saul, I’m going out on a limb and saying that BB is superior. In fact, having just sat through another rewatching of the series, I believe BB may be the best TV show I’ve ever seen.

It’s basically non stop story evolution, epic character depth and plenty of action. There’s only one redundant episode in the entire series*. Every loose thread in the tale is accounted for and the conclusion is perfect, even though it’s obvious that the final season was tacked onto the original story when a more wholesome ending was achieved. Breaking Bad is anything but wholesome and the final season was excellent.

Particularly enjoyed Walter’s redemption at the end. Not a classic redemption of making things right for the community, more the elegant redemption of making things right for himself. The enlightened self realisation made the character pretty much perfect. It encapsulated the motivation behind everything he did.

Walter was true to himself. The ultimate anti hero.

10/10

Agree DSDS, finally something I can agree with :)
BB is so well thought out, the episode openings - the squeaky car lift kit after the shoot out, the airplane accident and the pool, the Mariachi Band, and on it goes ..
I have it ready to watch right through, during the next natural disaster
I did enjoy Better Call Saul - a great character, ready to watch the final series once complete

"I did enjoy Better Call Saul - a great character, ready to watch the final series once complete."

I should've done that, just waited till they all dropped then binged it.

As it is, I get an hour fix then seven days of torment.

@Dude,

Can't really disagree, been a while since I've watched BB. Maybe have to revisit it.

Think they're splitting this season up into two parts with a month or so intermission between. That's gonna be a tough break.

The best show I watched in recent times was Giri/Haji. It's a masterpiece, I was glued to the screen watching it. The blend of Britain and Japan made for incredible viewing, the cast was phenomenal and the storyline crosses continents seamlessly.

This is the plot:

'Translating to Duty/Shame and set in both Tokyo and London, "Giri/Haji" is a thriller about a Tokyo detective named Kenzo Mori, scouring the London underworld to find his allegedly deceased brother, Yuto. Yuto was accused of brutally murdering the nephew of a yakuza member, which could lead to the onset of a gang war. Kenzo's investigation into the disappearance lures him into dangerous elements of the corrupt underworld of London's criminal circuit. Starring an international ensemble cast, the series originally aired on BBC2.'

It still has a 100% rating on Rotten Tomatoes.

Sounds great Flollo, its going on after I'm through Atlanta.

Any crew here given Lodge 49 a go? Synopsis doesn't do it justice, but...

'Looking for any semblance of the idyllic middle-class existence he knew before his father's death and the family business collapsing, a charming, eternally optimistic ex-surfer named Dud stumbles into his life's new path. He finds himself on the doorstep of a rundown fraternal lodge, where a "Luminous Knight" of the order, plumbing salesman Ernie, welcomes him with open arms. Lodge 49 offers Dud a world of cheap beer, easy friendship and some strange alchemical philosophies that may help him confront his deepest fears and greatest hopes.'

Show was cancelled after 2 seasons and never got its deserved conclusion but its a wild ride, full of heart and a lot of laughs. Killer soundtrack too.

Stumbled across 'Beforeigners' last night, a Norwegian sci-fi/cop drama about 'time-igrants' appearing from the past in the present day. I'm not much of a tele watcher but I hadn't heard anything about this series yet the quality of it indicates I should've.

Laid out like the typical Scandi cop show, so lots of people called Stig and Magnus, and many scenes of cops rolling up to crime scenes in slick black cars, but the twist is the crime scenes mostly involve the titular beforeigners - who've unwittingly travelled from either the Stone Age, Viking era, or 18th century - coming up against the thin blue line and the cultural confusion that ensues.

Clearly riffs on other sideways takes on refugees, such as District 9, but two episodes in and it appears to be handled in a distinctive way. No modern-era moralising, some dry takes on language policing ("We don't use the 'V' word [Vikings], we prefer to call them of Norse Descent") and other contemperaneous mores such as gender and diversity quotas - the female protagonist is a past Viking warrior, the first time-migration graduate in the Oslo police force.

Hopefully it can hold its form throughout the season because it's wholly original and a whole lot of fun.
