Gone......and forgotten pretty quickly I expect. Still management is no place for a nice calm fellow which is always how he came across, as opposed to Conte who in a single game re-established himself as the sideline dance champion!

I did like OGS the player.

Meanwhile, Conte is very...er...animated. But maybe that is what Spurs need, to save themselves from their Spursiness, a disciplinarian with passion.

Liverpool vs Tottenham. Game of the season? Well apart from the ref. I don't usually complain on the basis that what goes around comes around but if Robertson's tackle was a red, then so was Kane's which was clearly much worse.

Good call blindboy...we can shake heads at Diogo Jota's insane bullet like header.
All agree it's amazing & that he's the best header of the ball...
Similar in stature, climbs high & equally exciting as Tim unleashing his thunderbolts...gotta luv that!
All be demanding a highlights real already...his running game head passes are weapons as well.
Really is like having an extra, upper level 12th team mate on the park.

One must consider if this gifted flight time does slow the game down thru their eyes.
Untouched Referees / Goalkeepers stall for time...equally lone Leapers are afforded a safe perimeter
Climb high enough...then sure! You can buy a split second advantage, enough to win the game... Goal!

Good on him, Australian soccer urgently needs more quality coaching talent.

My son plays for U8 and we had a game yesterday. The opposition was clearly trained to bully and play aggressively as there are no real referee standards at this young age. The ref is usually just someone from the club. They put a couple of big, overweight kids into the game who were just pushing little kids around and striking fear into them. I felt like I was watching rugby. Their coach was visibly cheering them on to endorse such behavior. I got pissed off and started yelling at the referee who eventually awarded a couple of fouls. But it was all too much. Poor kids were traumatised after the game. The world has moved on from such plays decades ago. It was terrible to witness.

Also, at young age parking one or two players right in front of the opposition goal for the whole game. All good to maximise the score but creating terrible habits because once you get the offside rule kids won't know what to do. Overall, very low standards of coaching in Australia.

san Guine's picture
san Guine's picture
san Guine Monday, 16 May 2022 at 2:37pm

Yes Flollo, the standard of coaching here is fairly poor (there are exceptions). Most of all at that age it should be fun.
My brothers kids are a little bit older and live in Texas, but the coaching is right up there...they learn positional play and are taught general tactical nous and the nuances of soccer from an early age

FWIW here's my thoughts on the EPL teams of 2021-2 (in their finishing order):

1. Man City- deserved champions, Pep has revolutionised attacking football, KdB amazing
2. Liverpool- chased City the whole way, brilliant team, Klopp great manager, hope they smash Real in the CL final
3. Chelsea- donkey of the year Lukaku (£97M!!), oligarch hangover, loved Rhys-James
4. Spurs- Conte has galvanised this team, special mention Son
5. Arsenal- 5th place about right
6. Man U- simply awful (apart from de Gea and the ‘peacock’)
7. West Ham- good showing
8. Leicester- Maddison is quality, Vardy back and scoring
9. Brighton- played with verve and flair, a team greater than the sum of it’s parts, Potter my manager of the year
10. Wolves- solid defense
11. Newcastle- Saudi blood money, Howe great manager
12. Palace- Viera has improved this team out of sight
13. Brentford- similar to Brighton, see how their sophomore year goes, Eriksson amazing player
14. Aston Villa- will improve under Stevie G
15. Southhampton- mediocre at best
16. Everton- glad they stayed up
17. Leeds- shit defense and need Bamford back desperately
18. Burnley- the battlers battled but it wasn’t enough
19. Watford- lame
20. Norwich- garbage

18. Burnley- the battlers battled but it wasn’t enough
19. Watford- lame
20. Norwich- garbage

1. Man City- in addition to what you said - one player that really looked unbelievable was Cancelo. He took full back position to the next level. So dangerous at the front, sometimes he looked like a striker. Pep doesn't need strikers with fullbacks like this.
2. Liverpool- Klopp's pressing game is unreal. Plays so high with defense, it's unbelievable how much risk they take, and not many teams in the league can compete with this type of game. But they paid the price for it against Real Madrid. Roberston chasing Modric so far up that he fell out of position unnecessarily. Good luck chasing Modric around the pitch, he never loses the ball
3. Chelsea- yeah, Rhys-James was very good. Rudiger also and they just lost him to Real Madrid. Not sure what's going to happen to them. Lukaku needs wingers to feed him with balls constantly but Chelsea doesn't play like that. He's a good player but not in 3-4-3 Tuchel plays
4. Spurs- Best counterattack in the league. This is where Liverpool lost the title, Tottenham is one of the rare teams who know how to play against Liverpool (btw same strategy was applied by Real Madrid in the finals). Son should've been in Man United, too good for Tottenham
5. Arsenal- Still playing like they're scared of something. Saka is a class player, no doubt but they need tougher midfield. They haven't had a world-class box to box midfielder since Patrick Vieira
6. Man U- Terrible, horrible transfer policy. Ruben Neves and Son should've been here for the last 2 years. They thought Pogba could replace Paul Scholes but clearly not. Also, all their fullbacks are going through some existential crisis. Getting Ragnick in was also silly as he plays like Klopp - high pressing and intense game. This team is not made for that, they should've known that in the club
7. West Ham- Bowen and Souchek were a highlight for me. Tough at the back and in the middle but very flexible and fast at the front. A really good, strong team. Declan Rice seems to be the biggest star but in my opinion, Souchek is not far off.
8. Leicester- Agreed, Maddison and Vardy were the standouts. They are still a very strong team, if they stay together + 2-3 quality signings they will be a serious threat next year.
9. Brighton- A great team with some incredible performances. Very dangerous at the front and they can score against anyone. However, the middle of the table is their max achievement.
10. Wolves- Struggling at the front which I find surprising. They have some good young players but they are not playing much (Silva, Neto...). Ruben Neves definitely the best player. It looks like he's leaving. Now Man Utd wants him but so do Barca and many others.
11. Newcastle- I don't know, it got seriously distorted after New Year. Who knows what the team will look like next year. What they showed in the last 15-ish rounds was pretty good.
12. Palace- Tough team to play against. Very compact and disciplined. Gallagher on loan from Chelsea was brilliant. Chelsea should keep him next season.
13. Brentford- I didn't watch them enough but what I did look good. Ivan Toney was really good, he should probably play in a better club, maybe Wolves?
14. Aston Villa- So bad, they urgently need some real investment otherwise they will go through years of mediocrity.
15. Southhampton- Few good games but not enough. Very inconsistent. They need to improve their consistency and maybe try to keep some players for longer. So many good players went through this club and got sold for a lot of money. So, where's the money for investments.
16. Everton- Dear lord, I kept watching expecting some change but it just kept getting worse.
17. Leeds- They can't play without Kalvin Phillips who had a lot of injury issues. He's the engine of the team. Another one that should be in Man Utd. James didn't deliver on his talents. Raphinha was good and might leave this summer. He's too good for this team.
18. Burnley- Played old school, English style 4-4-2. Tried their best but it didn't work. They need to modernise, probably to play with 3 at the back + new WBs. They might do ok in Championship but they will always struggle with the current style.
19. Watford- So bad. Dennis was ok but otherwise terrible defense and overall lack of quality. Joshua King is also there and I expected him to do way better than this. Hopefully, he builds form next season.
20. Norwich- They tried but were really poor quality. No chance, most of the team needs a rebuild.

All in all, a very good, exciting season. Sadly for surfing, I'll rather watch Watford - Norwich than WSL. The next one looks exciting - Fulham was on fire and coming back into the league. Same for Bournemouth and Nottingham Forest after such a long time. Exciting times ahead.

A very fortunate win,Peru hit the post in extra time and it bounced away.

Redders is a classic, won the shootout against Perth in exactly the same fashion to claim an AWAY a League grand final.

In November we go to the BigShow,I hope we have a better squad than was on show this morning!

Yes, we showed grit and determination to defend our goal. However to Progress out of the Group in November we have to beat Tunisia (35) and try and take points away from France( 3)and Denmark(11).

Is GA up to the step up in quality,I doubt it.I hope the governing body give him a BONUS for qualifying(which is worth 15million from Fifa). Then bring someone in with European international experience.

Just reading how, just prior to the shootout, Redmayne spotted the Peru goalkeeper's water bottle had notes on the aussie penalty shooters, so he casually walks over, picks it up and throws it out of the playing field, denying the Peru goalie his inside knowledge on which way to jump.
The guy is a legend.

YouTube come good ... saves the shame of forgetting yer Enigma code ABC Fox sign in...
Wanted to share the background to the Coach's last minute Socceroo Switcheroo!
It's less wot the World thinks...not just about the Grey Wiggle Dance...that's there to distract them.

Purists already Le Poo Poo the Aussies...Wacky Waving Sideshow Alley Clown
Unclownslike behaviour! (Career Clowns & Car Yard dealers will object to Goalies Clowning around!)

World Cup Goalies draw the line about 40 times thru tournament...Rapping to a Vuvuzela Dance Off.
Is the world ready for this! Some rightly argue if Strikers can wiggle about, then why not Goalies!
Any forward put on the spot would come to blows with the clown...like in the Oscars!
FIFA insurance can't afford to make fools of their pet $ 40billion strike Force!

World Cup Clown routine hides the real genius behind the last minute switch!
Coach says the real secret was passed down to him from former Oz Coach Guus Hiddink...(No Spoiler!)
Leigh was very wise to evoke Sir Spin King...Coach agrees! You got that right!
tbb can't reveal...crew must learn this secret for themselves from our Ancient Masters...
Can share the thought process behind this trick is old school strategic & rock solid!

Imagine if their goalie chucked our goalie’s bottle away. The crying and finger pointing and calls about unsportsmanlike behaviour would be going on for the next few years.
