Hi,

Home shaper & having trouble routing the hole for the fin boxes!

I did buy an FCS2 template but have managed to deshape this when routing. 2 of the fin holes are fine but one is little bit too big, should I add filler and sand down? or is there a better way to correct an oversized fin box hole?

Cheers

When routing the hole I held the template
with one hand and drilled with
the other- must have hit the template with the drill bit.

Is there a better way to route fix boxes? As the template is made out of plastic the router runs straight through

Your cutting bit shouldnt cut anywhere near the Jig edge.

Shit looks like I’m using the wrong drill bit no one wonder it was cutting into the template (I was using one recommended by Greenlight surf).

On this video there’s a metal buffer at top of bit which allows you to press the router against the template without cutting into it, is that correct? Do you know where I can get this from ?

The “metal buffer” is a bearing collar, or you can use a guide bushing depending on your router base. You can get them most places that sell quality router bits and online. You should probably get the recommended one to be sure.

The recommended one's are fluted to cut an angled wall so the plug hole is wider at the bottom. They are a bit more expensive to buy. I made my own install kit out of plywood and bought cheap eBay router bits that work fine. Router bit must have bearing collar that is same diameter/flush as cutting bit. You can get sets of 3 different sizes. Usually the mid sized one, is 20mm long and works good for FCS 2
