Alright, time for some discussion on what yr all listening too. My iTunes inventory is getting a little stale so I'm up for some inspiration.

Currently loving The Drones' album "Havilah".. incredible songwriting and some of the best recorded guitars and drum I've heard in a long time. I'm a little late to the party with this album but it's on high rotation at the moment and will probably stay there a while. I've seen these guys live once (Fowlers, Adelaide) and fortunately they're incredible on stage too. Can't wait to see them again.

I dislike referencing mainstream musicians as a source of inspiration, but.... Dave Grohl's drumming on Songs for the Deaf is right up there.

Yeah Dave is an amazing drummer he really helped make that album special.

Really dig the first two Foo fighter albums but bar the odd song i can't stand the other albums, but still hard to not like Dave he just comes across as such a nice guy in every way possible.

I read his biography "this is a call" last Indo trip as was the only book at the book shop i had half an interest in, was a decent read he definitely did his time in other lesser know bands before he got fame from Nirvana.

This is good too i think it was only ever released as cassette, a collection of songs he was working on when he was in Nirvana, some made it elsewhere, one a Nirvana B-side, One on a Melvins abum and i think he has re recorded one maybe two on FF albums.

Yerp! Grohlly is one special specimen. Hell drummer....amazing musician.
In my humble opinion, drummers make the band. Benno and Facto, you'd remember these Adelaide lords? I reckon i even saw u guys playing with them a few times Ben...at the Tiv and Crown and Anchor? Memory is fading fast though.
Price of Silence. I reckon i'd put them on the top shelf as my favourite Adelaide band over the journey. Geez they used to get an aggro crowd though. Heaps of Homies!

Been checking out the ''What's in my bag'' series where famous musos share what music they are currently into.
Great way to find stuff you might like.
Wendy and Lisa.

Will have a listen to the Steve Reich remixes album and that well known artist Morton Subotnik

Hey Facto I've still got a Lard t-shirt of that creature that features at the start of the tune clip you posted. Was never sure what it is? a lamprey? maybe some other parasite?
It doesnt get worn in public these days, but back when it did there were many second glances

that reminded me of another t-shirt that drew some attention. Had a really good hard-ons one. Classic now to think back that I can recall 2 occasions when I was a horny teen and wearing it when I met the parents of chicks I was with (wouldnt say girlfriends, more short flings). What they must have thought
and then one night some gay guy tried to use it as a chat up line, that freaked me out

Looks like my old band Rash will be back into the gig guide later this year - our friends Screamfeeder are doing a national tour in September, and as it's being presented by Sound As Ever (Australian Indie 90-99), they're getting support bands from the same era. So, Rash is playing the Adelaide show!

All I gotta do now is try to remember all of those songs I wrote more than twenty five years ago. And how to drum and sing again... yikes! It's been a while.

Should be fun though. We played a whole stack of gigs with Screamfeeder over the years.. our first show with them was at the Seacliff Yacht Club mid '95; then another shortly after with them and You Am I. We also played our first Sydney show in '95 at the Annandale with Screamfeeder and The Verys (another great mid-90s band).

I did find a band called Rash on Spotify but your band probs very different at a guess.

Reminder to dig out Jack Grisham's memoir An American Demon. The man can write a bit.

Saw an old episode of Spicks n Specks the other night (followed by QI - see religious thread), and Ali Campbell was a guest. Funny bugger,

Reminded me of UB40 before they went cod, and which I'm guessing most would be totally unaware.

Signing Off, what a great album.
Saw them in concert at the Hordern Pavilion on their first tour of Oz.

Second best reggae concert I have been to, best was the Wailers at the Piggery with Junior Marvin on vocals and Carrot from Third World on percussion.

Yep. Nor its durability.

Your mix tape could swim around on the car floor among sand and dirt, old french fries, and wet wetsuits but when the urge hit you could always pick it up, give a cursory blow onto the one section of exposed tape and chuck it in the deck.

classic Stu - I'm sure we can all relate to that. I've got to track down a new tape player - been on my to-do list for ages, got a massive box full of the old tapes, mixes, live recordings and other albums, some of the best music I ever had is still in that box

bluediamond's picture

Theres some crew i wanna apologize to for having a go at them kinda out of proportion. Just wanna say it's been a pretty tough week on my end, dealing with loss. And as much as these crew sometimes contradict my own values, i reckon they're probably ok blokes. So sorry. Came back from a funeral in Melbourne last night, drank a bottle of scotch and unleashed.Just wanted to take it out on someone. I woke up regretting my offhand comments. I often wonder of other crews struggles with the fire water. And apologies to Swellnet and its crew. I went against the values of what i love about this site. Anyway, this song's about that semi struggle with the monsters. Bring out your Dead. Strung Out. I'll add the lyrics underneath. Sending good vibes to all tonight. Life and death have been at the forefront of my mind the last few days. It's fragile.

And the lyrics..
One brief recollection of all the
People in my life that have
Come and gone
One brief fleeting moment of
People I've loved and people that
I have wronged
Long lost are loved ones gone
But this bird cannot seem to
Mend it's broken wings so the
Lust for life dissipated and
A new greed rises for the
Needful things.
Don't want to think about it,
I indulge myself
Distraction eases pain, bury my
Emotions to protect myself.
Till I can't feel a fucking thing
I've dared to dream I've tried to live
But I've played it safe again
Just another slave to my vices now
Bring out your dead
Voices wither and crack then die
Ringin' in my ear would sing me
Soft asleep
Deathly silence now is all I hear
Has inspiration finally eluded me
[Chorus]
My addiction, my illness, my only
Trusted…

Ditto what Rabs68 said BD. Never read anything of yours that I had an issue with. Dealing with grief and loss is heavy. My advice, been through it a few times, is put the grog away and let it hit you. Feel it, let it wash through you. Cry, cry again. Crying is good. Crying will make you strong eventually. Loss like this is bittersweet. The bitter, what you are feeling now, is temporary. It goes away. The sweet takes over then, it lasts forever. You realise that in many ways, you haven't lost that person. They are still inside you, talking to you. It's beautiful. Hang in for the sweet BD, you will get there.

A couple of recent tunes I have stumbled across.
The first one is kinda uplifting the more I listen to it. Deffo grower.
The second one is for Ben and Zen. For some reason I couldn't stop smiling when I was watching it. (How's those double-kicks!)

Pair of Mystery songs to Tribute Ben's Tunes...luv yer work crew.
1st song backs up crew's support for bd

Same band shifts from Punk to blow yer tiny minds unleashing a prog slab killer track.

That's the trick ...the band swaps this cool sound to act like Worldly New Wave Godz.
Clearly they were a 10 x better band that faked it for the Chix, fame & cash!
Just a sample from the best obscure alt prog LP of the 1970's.(Yes! The Whole LP!)
Insane wild 1977 LP was cemented on tbb's platter thru the 80's & onward. (Keeper!)
Yet not one New Waver ever played it...nor has the world tripped over it!
This LP impossibly hides away even to this day...shh!
Time for tbb to flip side the real sound of a Mega artzy New Wave band!
