Alright, time for some discussion on what yr all listening too. My iTunes inventory is getting a little stale so I'm up for some inspiration.

Currently loving The Drones' album "Havilah".. incredible songwriting and some of the best recorded guitars and drum I've heard in a long time. I'm a little late to the party with this album but it's on high rotation at the moment and will probably stay there a while. I've seen these guys live once (Fowlers, Adelaide) and fortunately they're incredible on stage too. Can't wait to see them again.

that was a good Livid Indo - they all were back at Davies park. The mosh pit for the Beastie Boys was insane. Other top performances that day were Hoss, Dreamkillers, Meanies and Skunkhour, and Frank Black, I think more so because I finally actually got to see him live, had been hanging out to see Pixies for ages, but this was of course no Pixies gig, just a pass really. But all helped along by a little strawberry trip.
I cannot recall if it was that Livid or the next year, but one year the house was getting painted inside, so everything in my bedroom had been moved in off the walls, and coming home from the Livid I eventually went to sleep still under the influence of said trip (microdot the next year), to awake later having forgotten about the furniture movements and freaking out that the room was moving in on me, took a while to calm down and realise where I was

"Anyway, what happened to the dope ripping yarns, Info?"

Okay Facto as you requested, but this one is going to be harder to link to any music or music i like, and its not really that exciting but here goes.

When i was about 16 young and dumb, my best mate was a pretty loose dude and my parents didnt like me hanging out with him because well he was a bad influence we were always getting into trouble, just the stuff 16 year old boys do when its flat like shop lifting or taking the family car for a joy ride when the parents were away with main car or breaking into abounded buildings to explore or smoking or drinking etc, and they were right it was always his idea he was a bad influence but ive always been a sucker for an adventure.

Anyway we were kicking about on our BMX's as you did back then trying to kill time one flat weekend, when we bumped into an an older friend for some reason he told us he knew where a small crop was, so off course we had to go have a look, well that was the agreement, just look and i was personally scared to even just go look on the off chance we bumped into the owners while there or I had images in my head of police surveillance and us getting busted for this crop that wasn't ours, i had this picture in my head of this big lush crop of hundreds of plants..

Anyway although hidden we found the main track entry exactly where we had been told, but there was a few side tracks off the main track through the scrub so we both went of on different track, my tracks lead to a empty chicken wire cage a few metres long a few metres wide and about head high where plants had either been or were going to be planted.

But his track lead to a cage full of plants and about the same time i reached my cage he was yelling out he had found some, so i went back to the main track and found where he had gone moving quickly to where he was and as i caught sight of him i soon saw he was in this other cage and he was ripping out the plants, there was only a couple in there and not big but they were still full of buds.

Anyway i was actually pretty pissed off as i knew if we got caught we could be in some big trouble with the owners, i tried to convince him to just leave them there as if the owners some how found out it was us, we could be beaten up or worse.

But he had other ideas and he wouldn't leave them there he had somehow already stashed and folded up a plant or two up his jacket and convinced me to do the same, i just wanted to get out of there by then so did.

Anyway from the very moment he had said he had found them my adrenaline was pumping and getting out of there and back to his place the adrenaline didnt stop, it was a buzz but i was also shit scared that somehow the owner would find out it was us and seriously feared for our safety.

Anyway he kept all the plants as i didn't want anything to do with it and he ended up selling a lot of it to friends and we smoked a lot of it too, but for weeks to months i had that fear hanging over my head that one day the owner would find out it was us and beat the shit out of us, i still remember that feeling hanging over me, not sure how people/criminals etc live with that feeling all the time, but luckily nobody every caught up with us.

I do have a decent idea of who's plants they were as wasn't far from a few house's of people we knew ironically fathers of friends that we knew smoked pot and surfed too, i have no idea how it never caught up with us

Anyway not sure why maybe it was the buzz and adventure but after that our new hobbie was going out looking for crops and we did find quite a few more, im not sure how but i did convince him not to rip off plants again well at least not when i was there, but he still did regularly take the odd bud.

After a while we also tried to stat growing our own, ive never been a big smoker i never really enjoyed being stonned ive always preferred to drink than smoke, but i did always enjoy growing pot, a beautiful fast growing plant and i love the smell of the resin, i didnt even really sell much always just gave it to friends/flatmates to smoke but always only grew a couple plants a year.

Don't grow any these days though as wife views pot in the same way as most Indonesians do.

Anyway i do remember my friend stealing Peter tosh Legalise it cassette around that era, and like many kids around that age went through a phase thinking anything and everything to do with pot was cool.

I was going to post that song, but its not a song i really like, so maybe some Bob Marley, everyone loves a little Bob Marley.

PS. I did see the Wailers at one of those offshore festivals, cant even remember if they were good or not, but would never been the same without Bob..

Cheers GreenJam nice link.

Yeah was a good day, im a big Tumbleweed fan and that was wild them guys going up the tent poles and sliding down the outside of the tent.

I was only just getting into the Pixies at the time so didn't appreciate Frank Black as much as i would now, grew up on Beastie boys though so that was cool, Superchunk was the highlight for me as were also a favourite band at the time and first time i saw them, was also there at the Meanies.

Only went to one more at Davies park 96 and then went in 97 at Showgrounds but it wasn't half as good at the showgrounds to much concrete ad had got too big by that stage so was just like a Big day Out.

Yeah Facto i do agree its a low act, actually had plants ripped off myself in my twenties.

cool Indo - I too was a big Tumbleweed fan, still really dig their older stuff. And yeah, they were good that day, just got ripped off I thought with the early slot. But things were kicking in by then regardless...

and agreed, the Livid's lost their charm when they got so big at the RNA Showgrounds, although the 97 and 98 ones were still pretty epic days/nights. I remember not caring much for the big arena area, but over at the woodchop area was all time, still a grassy area and the big tent there had some good performances. Recall the DandyWarhols - I wasnt into them, but they were good, and somehow some years later I acquired that album 'Thirteen tales from urban bohemia' and I really like that, some good tunes on that one. That doco 'Dig' on them and the Brian Jonestown mob is really good too.

I know I've said it on here before, but the ZZZ Market Days, the original 'festivals', hands down the best. Not much documented on them, but they were epic

I never went to any of those ZZZ market days, not sure why but i just remembered another festival i went to in 94 though up the Sunny Coast was called Emundi band bash, wasn't really any decent name bands but had a good crowd and camp out overnight.

Regurgitator did play but weren't headliner they hadn't even released their first EP yet, although they were the band everyone was talking about.

Yeah, I always liked that PEP tune, it was a regular on the rage playlist for a while. And I've got Zambian Goat Herders CD here, havent listened in a while, might now give it a run later.

Indo - I cannot recall that Eumundi Band Bash, but sounds like it would have been fun.

what about Mudfest - at Mudjiumba (some park down near the Twin Waters area) - that was really good. Hard to recall exactly, I'm thinking 93 or 94. Lineup difficult to fully recall, but definitely Spiderbait thrashing it out P'Tang Kipper Bang..... era tunes, and Pangaea (and maybe Zarathustra) - both of which from memory were the precursers to Regurgitator, I think Deramkillers again, and MODD - I'd really dug the Wendells, so this was that lead singer's next band, they had some good tunes that I've still got an a tape somewhere...

Here's some of my Weed & Proton Vinyl, never saw PEP but did see Zambian goat herders

And speaking of Spiderbait P'Tang Kipper Bang, love this release cool artwork & red Vinyl 10". (have the first two 7" Circle K & Jesus too)

Paid top dollar for most of them in the 90s though when Tumbleweed were at their peak, looking back i have no idea how i afforded to buy the shit i did and party & surf/travel as i barely worked, glad i bought the shit i did though nice to have.

It's only twenty five minutes alone
At a chance to listen to what you see fit
Put your tail between your legs and you split
Was never one for luck
On a pay rise or a girl you got stuck
Never bother with FM radio
Pop a compilation tape and we'll go
But every dick that comes from the hills
Is gonna innundate you still
Never one to let something go
To make you hate or cuss at folks you don't know
As his girlfriend takes the last mushroom slice
You hope they never make their movie on time
Was never one for luck
On a pay rise or a girl you got stuck
Never bother with FM radio
Pop a compilation tape and we'll go
But every dick that comes from the hills
Is gonna innundate you still
Nineteen to twenty two
Just Nik, Jaimme, red wine and you
Into the Datsun and go
To another Massappeals show
Was never one for luck

Another good Aussie song writer Tom Morgan of Smudge, although Evan Dando might have had a hand in this one?

Always had a roof above me
Always paid the rent.
I never set foot inside a tent.
Couldn't build a fire to save my life
I lied about being the outdoor type

I never slept out underneath the stars
the closest that i come to that was one time my car,
broke down for an hour in the suburbs at night
I lied about being the outdoor type

To scared to let you know
I knew what you've been looking for
I lied until I fit the bill
God bless the great indoors

I lied about being the outdoor type,
I've never owned a sleeping bag let alone a mountain
bike.

I can't go away with you on a rock climbing weekend
what if something's on TV and its never shown again
it's just as well I'm not invited I'm afraid of heights
I lied about being the outdoor type

Never learned to swim can't grow a beard or even fight
I lied about being the outdoor type.

Ive got another story (running out of music stories though)

Anyway keeping with the Aussie theme

Melbourne Big Day Out 1995 second one i went to, still young and frothing and loved getting in the mosh pit and crowd surfing.

Was at Magic Dirt and a heavy moshpit was happening, i had a Tumbleweed T-shirt on and long blonde hair and there was this other younger looking kid in the moshpit with a Tumbleweed T-shirt on and long blonde hair, he kept on boasting me up to crowd surf and in return i would boast him up, we were both just going nuts.

Bit latter that day I went to go see this hyped up new band called Silverchair who were yet to release an album but had released a single Tomorrow that blew up on Triple J, the organiser had put them on a smaller side stage surrounded by buildings not expecting a huge crowd but even before they started it was packed out people just like me not knowing much of them but just had to go check them out, so like many others i got up on top of a roof to get a better view, other people were up trees and poles and all kinds of spots.

Then they came out and i fuck you not, the kid id been moshing with earlier was up on stage yeah Daniel Johns, i was quite far away but i remember swearing at the time it was him and i can still picture his face from the moshpit as just had a distinct almost feminine look.

A few years latter he did go on to date Adalita from Magic Dirt so obviously was a fan of Magic dirt, so im dead set certain it was him.

To be honest back then i was one of the Silverchair haters though that wrote them off, but with time (maybe in the last ten years) i have come to appreciate some of their early stuff and in hindsight it is crazy that a lot of the songs from that first album were created by 15 to 16 year old kids.

Anyway this is also from 95

Second pic down on this link pic from Silverchair BDO melb 95, i remember seeing this dude that jumped of a roof into the mosh

"The Js and their 90s were pants."

Yeah like they are good now?

At least in the 90s they played music played by actual bands and even the hip hop they played was half decent.

But yeah ever since they went national in 89 it's been a gradual downhill slide each year just a little worse, switch them on now and you have to wait half a hour to hear a song with a guitar with distortion, most of it sounds like top 40 stuff that just doesn't make it to commercial stations and the rest is just terrible hip hop especially the Aussie stuff.

Fuck is there seriously anything worse than Aussie hip hop?

I did still listen to public radio RRR & 3PBS more in the 90s though than Triple J, but god they have gone downhill these days too....depressing.

I know there is a getting old factor, but its not even that, i just want to hear music played by bands, guitar, bass, drums keyboard if they must.
