Repeating a lie is not gaslighting, it is more Goebbels. Gaslighting is a deliberate alteration of reality that makes the victim doubt their own sanity. It comes from a play where a guy murders someone in an upstairs apartment and alters the gaslighting to make his wife think she's mad, or something like that, I couldn't be bothered looking it up. Have a good weekend Blowin. Sorry I dissed you, had a bad day yesterday.

mikehunt. The Chinese Government saying their citizens shouldn't travel to Australia due to racial attacks on Chinese people is an over-reaction, but they do have a point.
When Trade and Tourism Minister Simon Birmingham says there is "no basis in fact" for the Chinese travel ban, he is simply lying. This is a frightening denial of a very real problem. Right when the government should be helping the tourism and education sector, muppets like Birmingham make stupid statements like this.
When there was a spike in racist attacks on Indian students, Australian authorities didn't deny the problem, worked hard to reduce the attacks, and sent a clear message to India that their students were welcome in Australia. Birmingham has essentially told the Chinese Government that the increase in racist attacks on Chinese people in Australia is a figment of their imagination. It's a fucking staggering claim.
Blowin will be happy through. Pity about all those people in the tourism, medical research, and education sectors who pay the price.

Zen....the other thing is that the foreign investment referred to doesn’t delineate between spending $60B to build a gas plant which will provide thousands of direct construction jobs , billions in indirect local contracting , hundreds of ongoing local production jobs and subsidiary businesses then royalties for Australia and $60B spent buying agricultural land to employ foreign nationals and export the food straight to China.

Nor does the register account for the billions of dollars of residential real estate bought through local proxies .

Geez blowin, you are going to be sooooooooooo conflicted soon.
You've jumped into bed with the Hong Kong protestors, which is fine by me, but you do realise that countries around the world are starting to offer HK residents citizenship.
Australia is seriously considering a large intake. https://www.theguardian.com/australia-news/2020/jun/04/australia-will-co....
It's going to be really hard to reconcile your "the CCP are treating the HK people appallingly" and your "fuck off we're full" attitude. Good luck with that. Let us know which side you're on.

VicLocal, serious question. Don’t you think the CCP and the elite / ruling classes of China think they are racially superior to all others through their many and diverse negative actions throughout the world and on their own people. It is China that has been breaking international standards (yes much could also be assigned to the US etc) of culture, human rights, law, commerce .... ). The invasion of Tibet is when I first noticed China’s intent ... now their imprisonment of millions is Chinese muslims, relationships with Nth Korean slave factories, the Sth China Sea and most recently HK. A friend recently explain his view that we are facing a new 1938 moment with China. Many people are concerned about this and that doesn’t make them racist at all. Your thoughts

Guysmiley, I've said it many times before, the Chinese Human Rights record is appalling, and people who criticise their HR record aren't racist at all. You won't get any argument from me on that front.
China has done plenty of genuinely shitty things, but it's really interesting to see how late the racists are to the human rights table. They don't give a flying fuck about HR abuses by our own government. And to be perfectly honest, they didn't give a flying fuck about Chinese HR abuses until China became public enemy number 1.
And then you have the gronk's "go it alone" nationalistic solution to their "China" problem. Retreating within your own country's borders and putting up the "anti-globalisation" sign, is a very clear signal to dodgy nations that we don't give a flying fuck about what happens within your borders. So much for the gronk's faux concern for victims of Human Rights abuses in China.

Vic Local's picture
Vic Local's picture
Vic Local Saturday, 6 Jun 2020 at 4:41pm

Not sure if the CCP think the Han Chinese are racially superior but they certainly see the Chinese empire taking a leading role in the world, like they did 300 + years ago. And yes the CCP are behaving in a racist way targeting muslims and Tibetans for brutal treatment.
Having said that, the diplomatic spat between Australia and China is just a stunning own goal.
Australia's enquiry into the origins of Covid 19 was just Australia being Trump's yapping poodle. It was just a fucking stupid position to take. Why we didn't quietly work with European and other nations pushing for a much wider enquiry is just beyond me. Scotty from Marketing opened up Australia for trade retaliation and for what?
When the CCP said Chinese people shouldn't travel to Australia, Birmingham's response was pathetic. He basically told china they were completely wrong about the upswing in anti-Chinese attacks in Australia. It's not exactly hard to find evidence of the racism.
The LNP MPs were doing some serious dog-whistling rather than condemning the attacks. Anyone paying attention (including the CCP) could see it a mile off. If our illustrious leaders had any fucking brains, when the CCP said don't go to Australia, they could have responded with "Please come and we will welcome you with open arms". Instead we've denied the fucking obvious, and right when Chinese people could really do with western democracy and hospitality in Australia, we've told China to fuck off. Canada and NZ's tertiary education sector will be booming next year. But hey Blowin will be happy.

Perhaps a lot of Australians will be happy Vic?
Not you for sure but the "pub test" conversation everywhere in Aus at the moment from many demographics would agree that China are a threat and dont have our best (or any fucks given)interests in any way. Now China have shown their cards and want to play dirty pool perhaps a slowdown of interaction with them , everything from business to tourism will hurt us initally (a lot in some instances) but may be better for Australia longterm.
Putting all our eggs in the Chinese basket has been a big mistake and our wake up call has just been rung.
The Chinese belt and road program (or whatever its called) was also applied in the late 30,s by Germany, they called it the autobahn , fucking handy for moving troops / invasion forces around rapidly.
Now its time to call me racist and delusional etc etc but I,m happy to chuck in $100 bucks gofund Vic Local a one way trip to China if you want to go see how prove what great blokes they are to the rest of us rather than just speculating the opinion from the safety of Torquay.

It is kind of more interesting to have a discussion in a forum though of possible solutions, rather than hey just let them decide end of discussion, i mean its not like we really have a say on things.

Maybe im alone but i just find it more interesting than endless bitching or whinging about the same old things.

The idea that some magic solution is going to be found by handing over control is naive anyway, if it was that easy they would have figured things out alone, especially if money isn't important. (not to mention just like any group, they all have different views and ideas etc)

The reality is the root of the problem is social economic disadvantage, any ethnic group that lives in the modern world with a no to low income, limited access to education or healthcare will have the same issues, this can be seen all around the world and even with non indigenous people in Australia.

etarip: Covid 19 has thrown a massive spanner in the works for the BRI.
With the downturn in global trade, projected revenues from BRI infrastructure projects won't be coming close to any projections. Airports will go broke, ports won't be loading that many containers, and pipelines won't be transporting as much oil and gas as predicted.
This means two things. 1. Host countries are going to struggle with repayments, and 2. China is going to take a very big bath if debts go bad.
As a regular China watcher, the big question is, how will China react to the necessary restructuring of finance T & Cs? That's probably the biggest geo-political question of this era. There is a very western style trade disputes mechanism for the BRI. I'm tipping China will restructure payments so countries don't default. The CCP is thinking long term, and with the USA abandoning the international development field, China wants to be the only game in town for the next generation or two at a bare minimum.

Hmm draw a line right between your views and Blowins views on China and fit me in there.

I have a great respect for Chinese IMHO possibly overall the smartest most hard working ethnic group in the world, the history and culture of China also interest me.

But I think we should all be concerned about China's growing power and influence and if it involves Chinas government it involves Chinas military you cant seperate the two.

So even though the belt and road initiative isn't directly about Chinese military expansion, its about increasing Chinese influence on countries all around the world and is part of moving those chess pieces around the board with the end goal check mate (world power/domination)

There is no one voice, Indigenous people and community's are just as divided as any other ethnic group, with completely different needs and wants depending on geographical location, city, regional, remote, right, left, traditional beliefs, atheist, Christian, even Muslim.

Just look at the divide in views between people like Jacinta price, Anthony Dillion, Josephine Cashman, Warren Mundine compared to say Stan Grant and Marcia langton and many others.

No way the Chinese tourist restrictions ( oops , sorry - advice) is punitive punishment because Australia dared suggest an independent inquiry into the Wuflu origins. The official recommendation by the CCP for Chinese tourists to avoid Australia was obviously based on the very real , immediate and constant threat they face from White skinned rednecks who visit relentless violence upon Chinese tourists and expats.

If only we were more like Zambia. Chinese government has no problem recommending it’s citizens visit there. Those slave camps aren’t going to run themselves !

https://edition.cnn.com/2020/06/05/china/china-zambia-murder-intl-hnk/in...

blowin is a text book example of conservative stupidity.
He picks two sides, "good" and "bad'. He praises the "good" no matter what, and holds the "bad" to way higher standards. It makes for some stunning positions.
One minute blowin is highlighting racism in China, the next he's denying racism in Australia (unless of course he makes up a bullshit racist angle for a black on white crime.) He's criticising China for their police actions in HK, and cheers on Trump for exactly the same shit in the USA. He has a problem with Chinese people targeting Africans in China, while calling for South Koreans to be rounded up in Australia for deportation.
The funny thing is, blowin is no better than the dregs he criticises. There's two sides to most extremest ideologies. blowin simply doesn't understand, or doesn't want to realise, you can criticise all forms of extremism. He actually thinks his racism is a virtue.
