"...As Melbourne passes Queensland, and then Sydney, and as the Indians and Chinese rise to first and second place among the migrant communities, history will be made at the core of our identity. Indigenous Australians will outnumber the English-born for the first time since the 1820s. At that point we can stop pretending we are just a white nation."

seriously these guys are bloody obsessed with this ip rubbish

maybe it's a generational thing, but I honestly don't know anyone who is, or ever was..."pretending we are just a white nation."

I don't get Melbourne at all.

It's a nice, compact CBD with a muddy little ditch of a river surrounded by endless industrial wasteland gulag.

the weather is shit.

better cafes and food in Byron bay, if thats what turns you on.

you got sporting venues, granted.

I wouldn’t even call it a minority view seeing as how at least 80 percent of Australia’s population chooses to not live in Melbourne.

When you subtract the 2 million immigrants who went there under a fraudulent sales pitch , the 2 million Melbournites who were unfortunate enough to be born into the mindless culture that their city is somehow not a cold, grey, dreary shithole , the 900,000 who can’t leave because they have strict parole requirements as registered sex offenders and you’ll find that even most crew living there dont have an objectively honest perspective of the joint.

Im not into cities but Melbourne as a city is pretty decent, well set out in a grid pattern, trams make it easy to get around and all the shops are on the street, heaps of good food from all around the world and the live music scene is always rated among the best in the world, heaps of venues and for some reason even the punters just get right into live music and then yeah good sporting venues and people really get into their sports just look at the crowds AFL gets and in the middle of winter at MCG etc.

Maybe it's because we lack other stuff like decent beaches close to city or a nice harbour etc, or Brisbane has got Goldie etc people escape too.

Id never live there though, but id never live in any city, alright places to visit bit not live.

Melbourne growing sucks, but i guess the silver lining is my house value keeps going up being inly 1.5hrs drive away.

Worlds most liveable city is a hoax though, much better citys to live IMHO Singapore is ten times better its the template all cities should be built on, clean, green, efficient, good food, mix of culture, food, low crime rate and transport system is awesome.

As Oz goes further down the Septic Tank shithole, comparing the cities with Yank ones makes sense. Sydney is like LA, all shallow glitter and surface, with a bit of the gay part of San Francisco. Mardi Gras and all that. Melbourne is New York. Goldie is Miami, Florida. The far North is the deep South. Brisbane? More Atlantic City than bloody Brisvegas. Adelaide is Seattle. WA is Texas. Perth is Houston. Maybe Freo is a shit Austin. Darwin and Hobart? Not sure. Haven't been to either. And as for Canberra, Washington DC.

Anyway, something to ponder on tomorrow.

Not surprised that Indo supports a dictatorship, he’s all in favor of establishing one here.

Had a great night at four floors of whores, was on the dance floor shaking my money maker when I got targeted by a working girl.

Told her I wasn’t going to pay for full services but bought her a couple of drinks instead to keep her happy.

She ended up sharing her dinner of noodles and hard-boiled eggs with me, it was all very lovely.

We ended up having a root anyway, but kept it off the books, so to speak.

She had an arse you could crack fleas on.

Singapore, I've never been there (apart from airport stopovers) but had a little net surf and read some Interesting Stuff:

"Just forty years ago Singapore was a war-battered British port on an island off the southern tip of Malaysia. It had a rapidly growing, poor, uneducated population living mostly in slums and houseboats. Singapore struggled along until 1965, when it became an independent nation with Prime Minister Lee Kuan Yew in firm control.

"In the next twenty years Singapore’s economy grew eightfold. Average income per capita rose more than fourfold. The percentage of families living in poverty dropped to 0.3% (in the U.S. it is near 20%). Singaporeans’ average life expectancy is now 71 years. No one is homeless. Population has stabilized. Virtually everyone has a job. The place runs like a Swiss watch."
Article from 1988 ~ http://donellameadows.org/archives/singapore-leads-the-good-life-under-a...

2015
"In this time of mourning, the temptation to lionise Lee’s achievements will be great. There will even be some selective amnesia about the failures he was responsible for. So it will be good to remind ourselves that Lee was not one who liked to be patronised, neither did he like being surrounded by yes-men. He always preferred it if people cut to the chase, and he liked it when his views were challenged. Hopefully, we may do him this last favour as we honestly review his legacy. Call him the benevolent dictator. That was what made him great."

The people Zen, they’ve got manners, intellect and empathy. I like societies that operate like that, where everything works as it should. There’s not many of them. Japan is another. There’s all the usual stuff, restaurants, bars, sporting events, gardens etc. I don’t need debauchery to think a place has it going on. Kuta for example.

I love Singapore in that i think it's the perfect model of a city and just leaders in so many different areas, it's like anything they do they do, they do it perfectly, was there last year for a few days for the first time for quite a few years and even that city by the bays is just amazing.

But that said Singapore is now so expensive, blow your money way to fast, prices are now just like here in Aus, for a few days wind down after Indo id now rather go to KL, KL is kind of like a poor mans Singapore, still get's a lot of things right like lots of greenery but it's still a bit dirty and not too perfect, it's like if you mixed Singapore and Jakarta total opposites up and poured it out.

And KL is so much better value for money, get a kick arse lux hotel super cheap, but then can still go get some authentic street food a few minutes walk away.

As you say FR easy to forget that wavepools have been around for so long.
We used to surf it two at a time one surfer goes left and the other goes right on a split peak and paddle back out and swap sides Was a bit of fun and a novelty back then.
During monsoon we would surf east coast which was fun on it's day if you didn't have time to fly out to Indo.

Sypkan, I don't disagree that there was an element of a reaction against what people refer to as identity politics that lead to Trump. It's that reaction and the negativity towards this modern identity politics in and of itself that is bullshit. And I think the people who react negatively to it, "cos i dont like being told what i can say" are despicable. because it aint about what you can and cant say, its about genuine equality that still doesnt exist.

what i've shown you is that identity politics goes back centuries. you say i'm cherry picking but i've given you examples of identity politics as played by conservatives, throughout history, from the american civil war to the white australia policy. it's not new and it aint cherry picking to highlight those examples that are about whiteness and entrenching the power of white people. you want more? how about the history of colonialism and the exploitation of colonised people and countries? there were economic motivatiosn but they sure as shit didn't treat the locasl equally.

How about how we lock up brown people who came here by boat but dutton wants to invite white south african farmers, specifically, as refugees. Think those south african farmers are the only persecuted farmers on the planet right now? yet dutton wanted to bring them in specifically. that's identity politics. how about legalised discrimiation against gays until recently? how about the american war on drugs that leads to black men getting imprisoned for a 50 bag of weed and the white college kid getting let off for the same crime?

identity politics happens all the time on teh right and always has.

the reason i despise the people complaining about this newly labelled "identity politcs" in the way youre talking about it is becuase its the first time oppressed identities have stood up and said, the system and people discriminate against us because of our identity so we need policies and changes of culture that recognises that. ANd a bunch of pricks go, nah sorry we dont' see colour and elect trump. that's why i think the complaint against "identity politics" is complete crap. the white majority has used identity politics for centuries to entrench their own power. finally those with lesser power start to argue for a reversal of it because of the discrimmination they live under simply becuase of their identity, and you all pretend that it's all equallity under the law and fcuk those minorities demanding special treatment.

Thye've been getting special treatment for centuries, but we the white majority decided what that treatment was and it wasnt favourable. now they want special treatment that they want and *what we claim to offer*, i.e. actual equality, and in america everyone goes no fuck you, here's trump.

Forgive me for not being on board with that.

sorry vasectomy but i don't see it as...

"...its the first time oppressed identities have stood up and said, the system and people discriminate against us because of our identity..."

that's just utter crap

we've had 30 odd years of academia obsessing over this shit, and the rules have become so ridiculous and restrictive even it's adherents cannot keep up

tool trudeau is a fine example

and as i said before, white australia policy was labor's pet project, not the conservatives

the whole shit show shebang is so artificially suspended it has become a laughing stock

suspended and supported by blatant lies and spurious research. lies and research that may not be challenged under any circumstances, ...if one wants to participate in polite society

the 'gender pay gap' is a fine exampe of that

sypkan's picture
sypkan's picture
sypkan Wednesday, 29 Jan 2020 at 1:38am

related but not intended so, I wrote this before I saw your post

a surprisingly nuanced article from vox

real left versus the faux left

"...The ceiling-breaker pundits coming out for Clinton did not come out for McCain-Palin even though that would have given us our first female Vice President. Emily’s List, whose mission is to increase the number of women in elected positions of power, categorically refuses to support Republican women altogether…

Thus, even ceiling-breakers hold the view that, as good as having women elected is, there are certain things that should disqualify women from receiving support. It’s just that the ceiling-breakers have different opinions than I have about what kinds of things are bad enough to be disqualifying. Being an anti-choice Republican woman is bad enough that you should be denied support, even if it means electing a man instead. But being a viciously anti-poor bigot like Hillary is apparently not bad enough to warrant withdrawal of support."

"...But the main objection philosophers have raised against deontological restrictions is that they’re overly rigid. Immanuel Kant, the originator of this school of moral philosophy, famously argued that it was immoral to lie in all circumstances, even to a murderer who’s asking for your friend’s whereabouts so he can kill her. Few people today think a rule that rigid is viable. But if we as a society accept more and more forms of discrimination and animus as absolutely unacceptable — adding poverty to the list, say — we are left with an ever-more-restrictive moral code that forces us into ever-thornier moral dilemmas."

'thornier' is a nice way to put it

way way too nice many would argue...

gonna be interesting if Sanders gets the nom.

especially if he loses...

the squeaky wheel liberals will lose their shit

and the usual noisy righteousness will become even more unbearable

...if that's even possible...

sigh...ok sypkan if youre goign to cut up what i wrote to create something i didn't say to argue against and then make shit up that i didnt say (point to where I said it was an "uneducated folk thing"), then i'm not interested in this. i've made my point and that'll do.

what i will say though is that i used to agree with you. then i had a couple of experiences where i realised that the way i experienced the wolrd isn't the same as the way others do and what i thought they were arguing for, isn't actually what thye are arguing for. so i took a fresh look at all this stuff and tried to understand where hard core activists were coming from. i tried to understand what their arguments were and how we might still need to change the way we do things. and it changed my mind.

spending some time reading ideas and commentary from representatives of the terrible lefty bogyeman youre afraid of, with a view to genuinely trying to understand them, was quite enlightening and remarkably informative. we aren't all equality of opportunity like i thought and wanted to believe and i've seen how that's true with a bit of reading of those pointing it out.

So good luck to you freaking out about these bastards ruining our world but remember, we're only we're we are now because of progressives. at every step of societal change conservatives have resisted. every step. and at every step theyve argued its just too radical and its the hard core lefty/progressive bastards who want to ruin society by giving women the vote, letting them own property, allowing no fault divorce, allowing men to shag each other, allowing gays to marry. the list goes on because its the basis of the philosophy to not change the current system, because hey it's workin fine for me! your fear of this current change is nothing new.

try looking at the other side of the coin and reading sources from that side of the arguemnt with a genuine interest in understanding it. and i don't mean reading what the "femmoes and leftards" have to say. i mean sitting back and recognising that they've got a brain and maybe since they're paid to think abotu this stuff, they might be taking a little more time and examinign things a little more critically than you or me. everyone has their biases but maybe, just maybe some of those terrible leftys are trained to look at things analytically in ways that we arent.

so try putting aside that kind of animosity for a moment and dos ome reading. or don't, i dont' care. but good luck surviving the next 30 years cos social change isn't going away and the current left wing identity politics is bringing a balance we've not seen before. we just have the current economically powerful conservative generation resisting that, as they always have, but history shows that resistance gives way eventually.

sypkan's picture
sypkan's picture
sypkan Wednesday, 29 Jan 2020 at 3:03pm

sigh also, ....that post wasn't directed at you vasectomy, and I didn't cut up your words or put them in your mouth

I'm one of the those terrible leftards, ...just not the ip fetishiser variety

my whole point, and schtick on here, is to make the righteous uncomprimising leftards realise the world does not revolve around them, and that if they ever want to actually gain power and achieve anything - rather than just yelling and abusing people on the internet - they need to appeal to a wider base to actually get voted in - a pretty basic point that seems totally lost on these people...

but I guess it still feels good to habitate the high tower of virtue and morality, whilst losing election after election, as the world turns to shit around you, ....us!

How good is Australia !

Scomo waiting until the 250,000 Chinese uni students have returned from China before he considers shutting the influx of plagued Chinamen ( and Chinawomen ! ) because his only concern is the dollar .

Australia has coasted on economic good times for so long that our current politicians have never been assessed on their merits under anything more taxing than their ability to conduit corruption .

Now our nation is facing crisis and the dawning reality that our political class consists exclusively of useless cunts who who’ve managed to infiltrate every level of leadership without possessing a scintilla of leadership ability.

Scomo should be lynched for his inaction on the Coronavirus threat. Criminally unsuited for the job.

Everyone knows the borders will be closed. Scomo is determined to wait until the horse has galloped over the far horizon before he closes the gate .

Hey Scomo.....why don’t you just fuck off to Hawaii for good you God bothering piece of shit ? You’re a fucking liability.
