We need sweeping generational change - this current government and system is rotten to the core.

"Brendan Nelson takes job with Boeing, weeks after stepping down as head of Australian War Memorial"

How blatant is this?

From Anna Bligh to Bob Carr, Christopher Pyne, Andrew Robb ($880k p.a.!,), Julie Bishop and now Brendan Nelson, plus all the rest.

Again, politics has almost nothing to do with serving the people.

This might be of interest to Freeride, Gra, Stu.

California is changing it's IR laws and requiring companies to put freelancers/independent contractors on the books as full time employees.

https://www.zerohedge.com/personal-finance/californias-anti-self-employm...

My undergrad knowledge of IR seems to reveal they are moving to more like an Australian award based system. ie if you manage a hotel, are on level 5, you get paid 'X'.

Freelancers aren't happy. There's also a restriction on how many pieces you can pitch each organisation each year. They are losing work to rivals not based in CA. Truckers are emigrating.

Anyway, it seems another chapter of 'life mimics Atlas Shrugged'.

Would Swellnet's overseas surf-website competition be CA based, by any chance?

Politicians should not be permitted to access their extremely generous taxpayer funded super if they continue in paid employment after retiring from parliament, or losing their seat for that matter.

Make 'em wait until they reach the age of 70.

Andy & Salty,

Do you remember Bruce Billson former Liberal Party member for the electorate Dunkley in Victoria and former minister for small business in the Abbott and Turnbull governments?

Bruce left parliament in 2016 but had two jobs for the last 6 months of his parliamentary career. One as Minister for Small Business and the other (undeclared) as a paid Small Business lobbyist.

Fancy not having an understanding of what conflict of interest means after a decade in parliament. Both Minister and paid lobbyist for Small Business!!

Parliament investigated this little scam and the LNP dominated house only censured him .... Federal ICAC please.

.......... I have had the pleasure of reminding the bloated pig about his little conflict of interest thingie when he was pressing the flesh at the last election. His smirk left his fat fucking face very quickly before his minders got involved and he was scuttled off as quickly as his little trotters could carry him.

Well done GS, these fuckers should be heckled at every opportunity.

I think I'd most like to give a spray to Howard and Morrison.

There's an idea - a website which lists all politicians who have either done illegal or immoral acts.

Listed in bullet-point form, ready to be used as mockery and abuse.

Organised by State, and under local, state or federal government.

The site would also sent alerts when someone on the list is going to be in your vicinity so you can get the word out and mobilise.

Hi GS,

I had met Billson twice while he was an MP, but well before his move to the FCA.

Unfortunately I was at work on both occasions so I couldn’t tell him what I actually thought of him.

As my local member I had written to him twice seeking assistance but nothing came of it. Typical.

There was a time a worked in Spring St and I often walked in the Fitzroy Gardens across the road at lunch time. One day while in the gardens I looked up to see John Howard power walking with his security guards in tow. It was around the time of the Tampa and kids overboard lies. Anyway, as he made his way up the path he was shaking peoples hands, he was less than 30 feet from me when we made eye contact and without any prior thought I shook my head and told him to piss off. He quickly darted off. The next day I spotted him again walking down Collins St just near the Melbourne Club, arguably Australia’s toffiest private club. This time he was closely surrounded by his security goons.

ID politics is used by the left?? What the hell do you think Trump, the republicans are trading on??? What do you think brexit is?

What kind of politics was it when Abbott knighted Prince Phillip? Or when Morrison talks about "the quiet Australians", you know, the real (white) Australians?

What do you tihnk Howard was doing when he played to his battlers? What was the white australia policy based on?

It is the playbook of politics and pretending it's new or doesn't get used across the board is absurd. In the anglosphere the right are generally just better at exploiting it than the left, hence brexit, trump, abbott, morrison etc.

But yeah, it's the lefty feminists wot did it.

indo-dreaming's picture
indo-dreaming's picture
indo-dreaming Wednesday, 22 Jan 2020 at 7:14pm

"the quiet Australians or real Australians" are far from white, they are the most multicultural group you will find, every race, ethnicity, religion, skin colour.

Just look at Western sydney as the perfect example, these are the true quiet Australians you don't hear anything from them until it's time to vote, generally too busy working and living, then bang their vote is what can help change an election result.

It's probably even fair to say many ethic communities originally from overseas are more likely to be conservative voters as they generally come from more conservative type backgrounds, and many of these ethnic groups are not white. (god i hate that word)

trump is trading in a backlash to ip, and that's pretty much it

brexit is about people of all colours, having their position on a shitty ladder being sold from beneath them, to the benefit of russian mafia millionaires, ...and a worn out shitty EU agenda...

punce phillip ...I don't know what that's about, but ip is pretty low on the scale of contributing factors

the 'quiet australians' are a colourful bunch, so nah, not even close...

but you're right about the right adopting ip, and that's what hurts the most....

it sux when someone beats you at your own game...

it's actually not "all the lefty feminists wot did it", ....just the ones that drank too much kool-aid, ask camilla paglia if you don't believe me, pretty sure she still identifies as 'lefty feminist'...

...oh yeh, I forgot, 'white australia policy' pretty sure that was labor's little brainchild...

you lot can't think past your own nose. what do you think the american civil war was about if not white identity and the inherent right of the white people to own others. that's identity politics. what about apartheid south africa where the identity of people entrenched their rights. that couldn't be identity politics, no way. that was about something other than the persons identity.

more recently people identified struggle and how it affects different groups of society differnetly but conservatives have been milking that cow for centuries. blieve what you want i really dont care but youre naive to think its a lefty thing and a recent hting.

and trump is trading on backlash to ip and that's it? What the fuck are you talking about. hey america i'll get your jobs back from the mexicans who are stealing them and selling you drugs back. no thats not identity poilitics. that's a backlash against the femmoes and the gays. hes not setting up an identity of the white people in america...and the republicans never embraced white nationalism before..no course not...the lefties started it.

hilarious.

sypkan's picture
sypkan's picture
sypkan Thursday, 23 Jan 2020 at 12:39am

interesting you go back hundreds of years to make your point, but yes, it's a form of identity politics

all politics is - and was - well before the accepted contemporary manifestation of ip.

a manifestation that scholars, left and right, accept as a recent one, and a lefty one - so it's you, who can, "... blieve what you want'

trump capitalised on a heap of people being...

"...sick and tired of hearing about other people's bathrooms" (b. sanders) ...sick to death of hearing about it, but definitely not allowed to talk about it, because of...

and the jobs that had been leaving the US for decades, (b. sanders) ...but you weren't allowed to talk about that either, because of...

china cheating every rule in the 'free trade' play book, but not to be talked about, because of...

china human rights abuses, ssshhhhh!!

high immigration - undermining wages and living standards, not allowed to talk about it, because of...

illegal immigration, repackaged a nice benign 'undocumented migrants', ...no negotiations to be entered into, because of...

your presidential candidate is a deplorable power hungry warhawk, corrupted beyond belief... "you're sexist!"... because of...

there's a whole heap of stuff you weren't allowed to talk about, because of...

and people said .. enough is enough, your version of reality is more warped than the republicans (that's some serious warping) so fuck you neo-liberal democunts...

it's you that's hilarious my little pesky vasectomy - not really a big picture guy are you...

vascectomy-blottmouth's picture
vascectomy-blottmouth's picture
vascectomy-blot... Thursday, 23 Jan 2020 at 11:32am

the point of going back hundreds of years syphkan is to show how politics on the basis of identity is as old as the hills and did not at all come from the left or the femmoes etc. It was the MO of oppressors since time began.

it's only become a bogyeman and something to blame on the lefty femmo academics since the oppressed started to highlight the consistent identity of the oppressed.

the recent bleating from conservatives and the right about identity politics is about when the oppressed start saying, hey you know what? we noticed that the oppressed ones in our society tend to have a similar identity, might be women might be Indigenous people, whatever. ANd now apparently thats a problem.

the right have used identity politics when it suits them, for centuries. now its a problem because their arseholery is being shown to them adn they don't like it.

so trump is winning because of the backlash against victims of oppression standing up and saying, hey we noticed we seem to be oppressed because of our identity. liek that was somehow a bad thing that oppressed people should ask for equal treatment.

if the right are upset that oppressed minorities are pointing out the systematic nature of their oppression and the inquality of the opportunities available to them, then fuck the right and all those who stand in favour of them.

the right oppressed based on identity for centuries and now are complaining about those minorities highlgihting that and responding to improve their own lot. the right can get fucked.

you wanna talk about big pictures adn yr looking at the last american election? that is pretty funny.

"you wanna talk about big pictures adn yr looking at the last american election? that is pretty funny."

Errrmmm I'm talking about the last american election because that's what we were talking about, ...the election of trump, and how a backlash to ip and it's enabler pc, got trump elected...

then you go cherry picking the last few hundred years

if you cannot see that overzealous pc-ness disallowing people to talk about pretty key issues for a new century contributed to the election of trump, then there's nothing I can do here to convince you otherwise...

it's not about 'femmoes' or 'bashing gays' or the left wing, or whatever, it's about a particular radical cohort of these groups that have developed a very (wrong) righteous view of the world where they are self appointed to dictate what is said and who is allowed to say it

to use their language, this has become a little 'problematic' for the wider good
