Do you honestly believe that people concerned with Islam would have their fears alleviated because of Christchurch ?

According to the popular knowledge , the way to deal with Islamic violence is to put your head in the sand and refuse to acknowledge it . The worst thing that you can do is to inflame sentiments in any way . Wouldn’t want to make the hornets angry even though they’re already stinging people as fast as they can.

If a cartoon about their leader is enough to get multiple people killed , what’s going to happen now that a Westerner has dared to strike back ?

I’m surprised Pauline isn’t doubling down on the inciting of fear. She probably knows that she’ll be burnt at the stake if she opens her mouth in the current environment. Will she be silenced after Islam has succeeded in their dream of a mass casualty event in Australia ?

Maybe the LNP should get our armed forces out of the Middle East if we are to try and avoid finding out ? Or are we to continue with the pantomime that people are trying to blow up the MCG and bring down Etihad flights because of what they say on Sunrise ?

Isn’t it amazing that the LNP / ALP have basically avoided censure for being primarily responsible for the situation of the terror threat in Australia ?

Pauline is the ugly scab on the knee of Australia after the duopoly majors thought it’d be a good idea to bomb down the biggest hill in town on a skateboard with loose trucks.

Yeah you’re right. Poor choice of words.

I meant it in the fashion that he dared step outside of the norm of Australia’s mostly non- violent citizenry . It’s not meant to be congratulatory or admiring in any way.

I’m just disappointed because thankfully Aussies are traditionally so apathetic about politics and tolerant of pretty much any development that a member of our society acting in such an extreme manner has set a precedent. A rubicon has been crossed and It’s likely not a good road ahead of us.

I shouldn't be so hard on Mark Latham. I did buy and read his book and well remember his part in facing off with Howard in the Fed election of 2004.

At that time I thought it was great to see someone more youthful at the opposition helm.

He never had a hope and held his own rope as the Murdoch empire closed in around him. (The recent "you'll pay Daley" NSW Lib attack ads reminded me of the Fed Lib "L plater Latham" tv ads back then.)
Howard won, Latham resigned, and the shitshow continues.

It's been a long time between gravy trains, and he has apparently sold his soul to the right to get where he is today.

Maybe he is smarter than I know and not a 'fuckwit' after all? (Its a relative thing)

Maybe he knows he is in a very powerful position as a NSW senator and will actually do 'some good'???

Maybe he just used the One Nation machine to get elected, and despite his personal promises to Pauline, he will more than likely have a public falling out, and become an Independent?

Time will tell.
Again.

It's a bollocks chart. Designed to give the wrong impression.

First two columns are supposed to be added together, it's the total for 'the PM's Office', as opposed to one total for Abbott and one for Mal.

Bill still comes out ahead but the difference ain't nearly as much - except for business class flights, thta's out there. Rest is in line.

In fact, it's cheaper than both Abbott as PM in 2014/15 and Turnbull as PM in 2016/17.

Nothing even remotely racist about DNA testing for ancestry.

If you want to accept hard earned tax payers money based on nothing except for your race , then it’s not too onerous to establish that such a claim exists. No one is demanding removing welfare for Indigenous. The only people that will not be receiving indigenous welfare are those that aren’t indigenous.

If you are less than 25 percent indigenous you don’t get indigenous welfare. Exactly how is that racist ?

Except where it's the only recourse (various cancers etc), DNA testing should be vehemently resisted. Especially so when the government is involved. If your genome is mapped and has questionable form then you can say goodbye to health insurance and life insurance - as can all your descendants.

Treat anyone who suggests it with great suspicion.

Didn’t know that Stu. Also agree with the concept of not giving your DNA to anyone. I don’t even put photos of my face on the Internet for reasons along the same lines. I’m just throwing a cat amongst the pidgeons of the identity politics crowd. Somehow the separation of races in our society doesn’t seem to contradict the fact that the worst thing we can do in society is to seperate people by race.

Westof - If someone is singling themselves out due to race , how is it racist to discuss , refer to or question their race ?

If white people were eligible for money based on race can you even imagine the outcry ? Race is not meant to be relevant to anything .....until it is. Nothing racist about establishing someone’s credentials if they are expecting every one else in a modern society to pay them cash based on nothing else but that claim.

It’s not me singling out race in the first place. Do you understand this ?

But....I still support welfare based on indigenous heritage alone. I don’t think this should be a perpetuity though. Sooner or later the fact that we are one nation undivided by race needs to be recognised .

I was having a similar conversation with a mate who had just completed a Masters at Sydney Uni. His thesis was based on providing a mix of affordable housing available (read legislated) to essential service providers close to business hubs similar to the model in the UK, US and some Scandinavian countries. Basically, people on a modest income who've been priced out of living where they are needed. Hardly a new concept I know.

Anyway, the conversation moved forward to productivity and i put it to him that diversity policies as opposed to merit based, will, in the long term affect productivity and lead to a decline in economic growth. He said that Australia probably wasn't quite ready for that conversation yet and it would be brave person to submit a dissertation based on that. But, "Sooner or later the fact that we are one nation undivided by race needs to be recognised" from a purely economic standpoint, filling quotas for jobs based on race, colour, whether you have a vj or don't, or choose not to identify with any of the above, instead of actually being able to competently do the job, will have a negative impact on economic growth.

I know, a little off topic but it must be grating to see people less skilled or qualified rise higher and faster purely based on these policies in our so called more enlightened times.

Group think arises regardless. People organise themselves in whatever grouping is appropriate. If not skin colour then other groupings arise.

Diversity can often lead to the promotion or job opportunity without merit due to allegiance to one’s country or cultural connections.

That kind of evidence free assertion is what’s propelled Australia’s relentless adherence towards indiscriminate diversity as our productivity has gone backwards , BB.

Not sure that what you describe happens to any significant degree zen but the reverse absolutely does ....... huge amount of research shows that people from minorities are discriminated against in employment. OK let's take a couple of examples

Western - No bullshit
Asian- Group harmony

When both values are expressed in a meeting it creates a choice which is not likely to be available in a monoculture. In some circumstances it might be a wise business decision not to tell a company you are dealing with that their latest product is shit. In other circumstances it may be critical to be blunt about its quality.

Indigenous - Respect for traditional environmental management
Western - Research based knowledge

In Australia the contribution of indigenous people to land management has been very significant and in advance of research but this has also been supported by research. Lose one and things become less effective.

Cultural weaknesses usually occur when they rely too much on their strengths. In some Asian cultures loyalty to the employer becomes counter-productive because staff stay at work even when there is nothing to do and avoid taking holidays. Stress and fatigue then lead to lower performance.

In western culture the profit motive drives valuable innovation but taken too far leads to shoddy products, over-pricing and outright fraud.
