Recap

A quick drop in swell across the South West yesterday back to a clean 6ft+, smaller into the afternoon. Mandurah saw good clean 2ft+ waves with 2ft sets in Perth and all day offshores.

This morning was smaller again with leftover 3ft waves in the South West and 1-1.5ft to the north. New W/SW groundswell should kick this afternoon across all coasts and reach 4-6ft in the South West, 1-2ft in Perth and Mandurah by dark.

This week and weekend (May 12 - 18)

These notes will be brief as Ben's away on holidays.

This afternoon's first pulse of W/SW groundswell should peak tomorrow morning to a fun 5-6ft in the South West and 2ft in Perth and Mandurah, while a reinforcing W/SW swell for the afternoon keeping the swell up all day and Sunday morning.

Winds will be favourable early tomorrow and out of the E/NE, tending more NE through the day and then N-N/NW into the afternoon.

Sunday is now looking average with W'ly winds due to move in just before dawn across the South West, but Perth and Mandurah should see more variable breezes.

Our larger W/SW groundswell for Monday is looking good, with a strong mid-latitude frontal system currently sitting north-east of Heard Island and aiming a fetch of W/SW gales towards us.

We'll see this fetch continue slowly east while an embedded fetch of severe-gale winds project towards us, generating a large long-period W/SW groundswell.

This swell is due to arrive Monday and build rapidly to 8ft+ (10ft cleanups more than likely) across the South West, 3ft in Mandurah and 2-3ft in Perth. Expect smaller surf during the early morning.

Gusty SE winds are due Monday morning, likely tending E/SE through the late morning and possibly holding into the afternoon.

Tuesday will then see the W/SW groundswell easing from the 6ft range in the South West, 2ft+ Mandurah and 2ft Perth under E/NE tending NE winds, and N into the afternoon,

Longer term the outlook is quiet so make the most of the coming period of waves. Have a great weekend!
