Best Days: Tuesday morning in the South West, Sunday morning in the South West

Recap

Happy New Year! Fun waves Saturday with a good S/SW groundswell to 4-6ft across the South West, 1-2ft in Mandurah though tiny up in Perth.

Sunday was half the size and with less favourable winds. This morning we've got a fun new SW swell with decent winds across the South West, but Perth and Mandurah have remained tiny.

Today’s Forecaster Notes are brought to you by Rip Curl

This week and weekend (Jan 2 - 7)

Today's pulse of SW groundswell should ease over the coming days, and tomorrow morning will be the pick with an offshore E/SE breeze developing through the morning, back to the S/SE on Wednesday.

We should see the South West easing from 3-4ft at magnets, 1ft in Mandurah and Perth, smaller Wednesday.

A low point in swell is expected on Thursday and lighter offshore winds are expected, but you'll struggle to find anything above 2-3ft across the South West.

Into Thursday afternoon and more so Friday some new mid-period SW swell is due, produced by a very weak polar frontal system projecting slowly towards us through the coming week.

Two swells are actually due, the first and smallest Friday, with a secondary slightly better increase Saturday afternoon/Sunday morning.

Onshore S/SW winds associated with the front will create poor conditions on Friday with weak sets to 4ft or so across the South West, 1ft+ in Mandurah and 0.5-1ft around Perth.

Saturday/Sunday's swell should provide a touch more size to 3-5ft across the South West, with average S/SE tending S/SW winds on Saturday, and better E/SE offshores Sunday.

After this there's nothing major on the cards until mid-late next week, and this is only swell in the small to moderate size range. We'll have another look at this Wednesday.
