South Australian Forecast (issued Wednesday 7th October)

Best Days: Mid Coast Thursday, smaller Friday, South Coast Friday, Saturday and Sunday mornings

Recap

Clean good surf down South yesterday morning with solid 3-5ft sets across most spots, with bigger waves out at Waits before an onshore change moved through before lunch.

The Mid was cleaner than expected with good 2-3ft surf across the beaches and reefs before the change pushed through around midday.

Today a reinforcing W/SW swell has kept great 2-3ft surf hitting the Mid Coast with offshore SE winds, while the South Coast continued to provide plenty of size but poor conditions.

This week and weekend (Oct 8 – 11)

Today's increase in W/SW swell was associated with a strong frontal system pushing in under WA through the Bight.

This swell will ease back to the 2ft range on the Mid tomorrow, ahead of an afternoon increase in new SW groundswell, maintaining similar sets.

The SW groundswell has been generated by a good frontal system again swinging in from the Indian Ocean, under the country while generating a fetch of W/NW gales.

The South Coast should offer 3ft sets through the morning at Middleton, before offering the odd bigger one later in the day, peaking Friday to 3ft+ at Middleton and 4-5ft at Waits and Parsons, while the Mid should see infrequent 1ft to possibly 2ft waves.

Winds will remain good for the Mid tomorrow and offshore, with the South Coast not fairing the best with a fresh E'ly tending E/NE breeze ahead of an afternoon S/SE'ly.

Friday will be better with a morning NE'ly before sea breezes kick back in.

Into the weekend we're due to see a small SW swell steadying the easing trend in size from Friday across the South Coast with light variable winds through the morning ahead of SE sea breezes. The Mid will become tiny with 1ft surf most of the day.

Sunday is a little hard to pick wind wise at this stage, but the surf will be smaller and we could still see variable breezes through the morning, check back Friday for an update on this.

Next week onwards (Oct 12 onwards)

The outlook for next week isn't too flash early with onshore winds and an average mix of swells until Thursday.

Winds do look to improve with a possible fun swell for Friday, but we'll have another look at this in the next update.

Without giving too much away, Friday looks best with smaller swells and limiting winds Saturday and Sunday.

Some places were handling the strong offshore winds better than others today.....
