Java, Bali, Lombok, Sumbawa forecast by Craig Brokensha (issued Tue 21st Oct)

Best Days: Every day besides Thursday afternoon and Sunday afternoon when the swell will bottom out

This week and weekend (Oct 22 - 26)

A fun pulse of S/SW groundswell through yesterday has held this morning across the region offering inconsistent but plenty of surf across exposed and semi-protected breaks. This swell should ease through this afternoon and drop more noticeably through tomorrow and further into Thursday, bottoming out into the evening.

Moderate to fresh E/SE trades will persist with periods of more variable winds each morning at selected locations.

A new long-range and very inconsistent but strong period S/SW groundswell is due to arrive through Friday and and peak overnight, generated by an intense polar low that developed around the Heard Island region over the weekend. A fetch of severe-gale S/SW winds were projected towards us, producing the larger period swell with exposed spots in Bali due to pulse back to the inconsistent 6ft range (on the sets) later Friday and then ease from a similar size Saturday morning, further into Sunday.

Next Monday onwards (Sep 27 onwards)

Another similar sized S/SW groundswell to Friday/Saturday's pulse is due on Monday, but this will be generated by a weaker polar frontal system pushing through the Heard Island region towards WA today and tomorrow.

The core winds will be under the last system and the swell is only expected to reach the inconsistent 5-6ft range at exposed spots through Monday before easing from 4-6ft Tuesday.

The trades should weaken across the region through next week opening up these more exposed options for business each morning.

Longer term there's still nothing major on the cards but background levels of S/SW swell energy should keep exposed spots topped up with waves in the 5-6ft range. More on this Tuesday.

Missing the experience/knowledge for Bali - does Sat 25th Oct to Sun 2nd Nov for a intermediate surfer makes sense? Looking for area around Keramas...

Thanks a lot!

Dennis, you can expect less size around the east side but Keramas should still be pulsing between the 3-4ft+ range with each swell listed above. Great conditions each morning as well.

Further on that, swell for Wed/Thu looking a little stronger and easy 5ft sets, but easy to work around.

Thanks,

yeah I saw that, that should be fine - just wanted to know if it's generally worth to go this week, as I'm thinking about booking it since 3 weeks now.
