Watch: La Graviere last week
Why lose sleep over what could have been?
After a week of abysmal conditions, the organisers of the Quik Pro France must've been relieved to wake last Tuesday morning to good, clean waves. They promptly ran Round 1 of the comp in fun, if slightly fat, lefthanders at Les Culs Nus. Meanwhile, just 1 km down the beach, La Graviere was having its best day in years. Great for the locals, less so for the competitors.
Amongst the crowd is ol' Freddy Compagnon. You'll remember Freddy as the guy who invented the SUP step off to Alaia - see 0:46. Looks like the sport is catching on 'cause a goofyfooter also gets in on the act with three different waves through the clip.

Wu-tang Stu?
Pumping.
That Freddy fella is friendly and nice , but to be honest he’s a pest to surf with. Unless you like someone paddling straight past you after getting towed into a bomb set , only to immediately take up pole position again and pick the eyes out of every set that comes through.
If it was a straight up SUP rider he’d be knocked out within minutes, but cause he jumps from his SUP - which he gets a mate to paddle from the back with flippers like an outboard motor - onto a snowboard , people think it’s groovy.
Maybe he should just stick to the snow...
Spot on - the guy is a total pain in the surf. Thinks he has some right to the set waves because he's doing something wacky. No one I know round here has any love for him
How's that Greenmount cam!
It is fairly easy to capsize a sup. Love those kind of waves.
Place was pumping all week after the storm rolled through, odd choice to hold the comp up the beach. Plenty made the most it, Ho good to watch but destroying boards for fun, Mikey Wright being a gent.
