Watch: Carl Wright on!

Swellnet Dispatch

Back in March, Phillip Island's Carl Wright won the Bells Trials and copped a wildcard into the main event. You remember this? Yes, no?

The quick refresh is that Carl came up against Filipe Toledo at reeling Winki, and while the scores were close you can guess who took the win. Both surfers in that heat were riding Sharpeye Surfboards, and their Australian shaper, Brendan Leckie, has put together this clip of Carl, but instead of Bells or Winki you get Indo, Chopes (nice foamball ride to backside pump), Kirra, Shippies, and more Indo.

I'd have to watch it again but I think every wave is a barrel. If he matched up against Toledo in the hollow stuff the result might've been reversed.

Barrel-a-thon alright!
Brendan Leckie - wasn't he shaping Clay Crafts? Rode one off a mate once and it went really good.

Man, that was sick. Great music and incredible surfing feel. What about the Kirra one after the fella bails in front of him?! Mad.

Great surfer, good music and no doubt a charger!
But slow motion and gopro barrel footage bores me unless its exceptional.
Show me some paddle ins or wipouts or zoom out and show me the line up.
Does nearly every wave on a video need to be slowed down these days?

Carl is one of a handful of Brilliant surfers from phillip island and one of island surfboards team riders...he was already hitting the big cloudbreak surf a month or so ago before all the big names got all the coverage. He's a ripper for sure

Truebluebasher crashes a surfboard shaper's site... that can't be good!
tbb comes in peace to honour the forging of Kanoa's 2019 J Bay Samurai Sword .

Basherz know how tough it is to push thru high flat walls like J Bay,Bells,Winki.
We know that who ever masters this line has the upper hand.

White Lightning owned it & left a massive hole when he took off.
Oz natural foot J Bay dominance is over.
No natural foot Oz Surfer in J Bay final 16...that's Un-Australian!

Yet Kanoa is cutting thru J Bay like butter but swears it's down to Brendan Leckie.

From a basherz perspective, Kanoa does seem to be wavin' a magic wand about.

It matters not that he didn't score 10 or if he progresses in Comp or Wins it.
The magic happened & we all celebrated that moment.

tbb prefers a new line every time & Kanoa looked supernatural with each new line.
Boardrider - shaper combo created a new art form at the Bay that day.

Kanoa loved both the wave & Board equally & also backed himself & said so.

Again! If any think those waves were easy to surf...then go tell our Oz Natural footers.
tbb is sworn to salute magic when it happens. Oz can be proud of Brendan Leckie.
Any bodybasher can clearly see that you're a step closer to being free... tbb Salutes!
