Watch: Taj Burrow // Cult of Freedom

Stu Nettle
Swellnet Dispatch

It's been a while since Globe dropped the first clip of their Cult of Freedom series. The CoF idea was different from the get go: a rolling series of clips that would, in their entirety, constitute a film.

Nothing in there about deadlines or consistency so seven months after the opener Globe present 'The Taj Part'.

Fella frickin rips. Pretty hard to not be impressed by that clip.

Too bad about the knee there mate. After seeing a couple of those backhand floats in Indo it makes it even more painful considering the toy little wave he fell on.

Still one of my favourite surfers to watch.

Yep, he didn't paddle into those on that thing. I would be admiring his ability from the beach thank you very much.

Gary G commented Thursday, 14 Jun 2018 at 12:29pm

Gary acknowledges that Taj's surfing is one of a kind - his ability to turn on a dime is super unique, and his bottom-of-the-wave-speed-trim-to-vert-backhand-lip-approach is also one of the best in the Biz (as seen in the macaronis section of that clip).

BUT.

Gary often wants to see Taj use all that speed from his approach to really thrust his rail harder for longer in his turn at the top of the stroke, whereas often it's more of a wham-bam flick of Taj's equipment and then he's onto the next conquest.

Personal preference, 'tis all.

Freedom is not a cult, it just is. You don't need to make it sound groovy, it already is. That is where people who are really fucked up will try. Your Old Man should have told you that, or maybe you should have talked to him before you where in something like this.

Ok, I get it swastiker in the middle of Afghanistan, no , I really get it. But I will quote Peter Bowes, you have to go a little bit deeper. I lose my way when I go a bit deeper, stumble around, police will turn up soon.

Love your line, man.

Heres a Story

There was a Prince who had everything, he built this building, he was not to sure why he built it He felt unsatisified. So he built a decent copy over the river, he wasn't to sure why he did that.

Bloody beautiful . . . Taj savours his freedom in a state of grace. No wanky airs, no narcissism, just pure joy. Michael Petersen, with all his demons, would tilt his hat at this one.
Thanks Swellnet for uploading this.
