Young gun Vaughan receives North Shelly call-up for Sailor Jerry Surftag showdown

Australia’s best twenty-four Boardriding Clubs are heading to the Gold Coast this week to compete in the Sailor Jerry Surftag Australian Championships at Duranbah Beach. Defending Men’s Champions North Shelly Boardriders have been forced to make a line up change with young gun Zac Vaughan coming into the team replacing Riley Laing.

Laing has been in Indonesia competing at the WSL QS1500 Krui Pro and won’t make it back in time resulting in Vaughan receiving the call from Club President Cameron Sharpe. Twenty-one year old Vaughan will join Shane Holmes, Russ Molony, Saxon Lumsden and Johnnie Keith in the North Shelly team who will go into the event as No.1 seeds after winning the Sailor Jerry Surftag Newcastle Qualifier in January.

Vaughan surfed in the North Shelly “B” team at the Newcastle Qualifier and couldn’t be happier with the call-up to the “A” team, “I’m really amped, this is a big thing for me to be surfing for the club at the Australian Championships”, Vaughan said. “ I watched the boys win last year down at North Narrabeen and realize what’s on the line this weekend up on the Gold Coast. When Cam Sharpe gave me the call I was so happy and have been pumped ever since”.
