The guns of Easter Island - video

Mataveri on Easter Island is a tricky bastard of a wave. It's a big wave spot, but it's also a hollow barrel. It requires a big board, but it's technical. It's a red line run down the point with no room for error, so good luck to natural footers adjusting the heel side rail with eight foot of foam in the face.

And that probably explains why every surfer in this video is a goofy. There's some fantastic big wave barrel riding on show, particularly from old Natxo Gonzalez who always seems to pop up when there's a barrel to be stuffed.

Don't expect the polished viewing of Skeleton Bay or Desert Point, but instead you get a radically challenging big wave with rides that'd illicit a huge sense of satisfaction should they be navigated to the the channel.

Good shit...

Yep, good shit. I always thought after a visit by Laird H and others looking for waves there, that there were none. But, heh, This looked like a great session.

Beautiful wave.
Got a mate who married a Chilean girl...lives in Ramon's home town now...says he is a lovely bloke and charges ridiculously hard. Surfs the local point when it's big at least 100m deeper than everyone else. Just crazy next level stuff apparently.

Wow great clip I can see why there are no Chilean surfers on the WCT why would you bother when you can challenge yourself on these waves. Undoable without the ski with that much water and this kills watching a anybody in a beachie doing an air of any flavour on a 3 foot wave. In awe of these fellas.

Without ski or boat, coming back in at this size would be a challenge
