waxerThursday, 24 Jul 2014 at 2:00pm
I was fortunate enough to have Nias to MYSELF for a total of 16 days with the swell around 4-7 foot. It was however around 1972, so not many people even knew the place existed. Getting there was half the experience.

I can confirm Waxers story . I saw him arrive and got out of there before he saw me . Thought it was getting too crowded.
udoFriday, 25 Jul 2014 at 11:19am
This wave is better than Nic Lambs at Puerto.
waxerFriday, 25 Jul 2014 at 2:03pm
Yea it was pretty awesome back then. I know Rob Wright (as in Owen's Dad) surfed it before me. We are forever giving each other shit about who surfed it first. I got there via a boat that we were using to just cruise the islands, and found it by luck really. I mean there just so many magic places over there, where do you start and stop?
I used to ride the wave to the beach. and it stayed absolutely PERFECT down to a tiny ripple that stopped on the shore. Then you just walk around the back of the takeoff area, and jump in and do it again and again. I may still have some pics hanging around of what it was like back then. I'll see what i can dig up?
udoFriday, 25 Jul 2014 at 2:56pm
So it was 1972 yeh ?
Shit Nias was a long wave back then.......longer than the superbank .
waxerSaturday, 26 Jul 2014 at 1:07pm
I wouldn't say longer than superbank, but yea it went for awhile. Still looking for those pics. I used to take land shots of Kirra back in Marty Tullimans day (if anyone remembers him?) I had a 1,00-5,000 zoom lens which allowed me to sit on the top of the hill at Kirra, and pick up the freckles of someone taking off at Snapper. Got some amazing into the tube shots of the middle of Greenmount from that location. My ex unfortunately, had a hissy fit when we broke up, and literally destroyed as many as she could, but i managed to hide some of the better ones.
