slow loading

swellnet,
I resisted jumping on the bandwagon at the launch of your new site when some raised slowness of loading pages. You guys blamed teething problems, fair enough, the new platform has been running a long time now and personally I have not seen any improvement in speeds, sometimes it appears to be getting worse.

I use the site from various locations so pretty sure it is not my side. Quite often I'll get on the computer open your site first, then open other sites and come back, and yours is the one still loading, so I will come back several times before it is ready, it also happens between pages too. I am no internet speed freak so it has to be really slow for me to comment, just letting you know. If that's how it is then bad luck, but it seems to be way beyond normal stuff happening.

Also, and this is probably a my phone thing, when waiting for comments to load, waiting waiting waiting, it comes up you scroll to what you want, start reading, then the site jumps to what appears to be a low data/resolution list of surf cams/reports. I m guessing that's some back up page you guys have for bad data connections but it is really annoying when you could see what you want then you have to wait to be redirected and then loaded again.

Sorry to be so petty but it does seem to be your problem as it happens on the many different computers/devices and connections I use. Thanks

Ps. waited literally over5 minutes for the comment above to load, got pissed, opened a new tab, and the comment was posted straight away, this seems to happen all the time too. Im no IT geek but seems to be something about 'bad gateway' I reckon

That's weird mate - the site loads really quick for me, whether I'm accessing the web via an ADSL line or a 3G connection. It's really hard to diagnose these kinds of problems individually, so let's wait and see if anyone else chimes in with similar issues.

But waiting for 5 mins for a page to load? That is most unusual. The most I've had to wait is perhaps 5-10 seconds, if I'm on a 3G connection in a poor reception area.

Yeah Sypkan, I had troubles awhile back on my laptop with safari..? That was only viewing surfcams, I changed to Google Chrome from Bens intuition and it worked.
I live up in the bush and we have telstra ADSL broadband internet/phone connection, always on WIFI with me lappie anywhere around /under/on top of the house and its a very quick speed.
Even on my I Phone which, searches with Safari same speed.

I do notice tho my wife's Laptop a 10 year old Jesus one is slow as fuck.
I'm no tin tin net guru that can help you but maybe ask your service provider and some tech guru that can help you.
I thought Ben might of helped you as he is a tech guru;)

thanks wellymon, and ben

I dont think its connection or browser, I use mozilla, for no educated reason just habit. I dont think its to do with connection either because not having a computer the only time I use a computer is at the library or work, so its different computers and connections all the time. Could be a library problem I guess.

Then I find it slow on phone as well, but that is probably a different problem, that in between screen is annoying though.

Nothing to do with slow loading, is it true or false that once something is put on the Web ..picture, comment etc ......is it there for life always in cyberspace somewhere even when deleted from the site it was added it - is it still somehow able to be found or brought back ??

Pretty much Udo. There are a bunch of websites (Google cache, Archive.org) that are constantly archiving data, plus local web trawlers.

I don't know why but for a few days about a week or so ago, i had issues in getting swellnet to load, but other websites seemed to load fine.

The weird thing is my bookmarked swellnet link often timed out trying to load, then id go to google and bring up Swellnet and the same web address as i have book marked would load although not a quick as normal…that is weird and i don't understand it.

But this week and normally, all is cool, no probe, no complaints.

ID - we had a problem a few weeks back where the old .com.au redirects stopped working.. That's what would have caused those issues. All fine now though.
